A couple of weeks ago, I spent an evening walking through the Eagles locker room with some highly regarding high school sophomore football players from around the country, as part of the new NFL Prep Academy. I’ll tell you more about that program later.
While walking through the locker room, I noticed most of the players had the urine sample cups in their lockers. The Eagles encourage their players to give urine samples, so they can make sure they’re staying properly hydrated. Studies have shown that you can avoid the hamstring pulls and other soft muscle tissue injuries by staying hydrated.
The Eagles are also big on their players getting the deep tissue massage in between practices. Massage tables are all over what used to be solely a media room when Andy Reid was the head coach. It’s another way of preventing all those soft tissues injuries.
Now BleedingGreenNation.com has a chart, which lists the Eagles as the healthiest team in the NFL. That may be true, but do they have a way of preventing a certain injury-prone quarterback from hurting his knee again? I do think there’s legitimacy to avoiding all those soft tissue injuries, but I’m don’t know about the ACL tears.
Can their sports science program keep Sam Bradford healthy for an entire season? If they’re able to keep Bradford healthy, it will have a great affect on the NFL.
They have the Birds at the top of the list of healthiest teams, followed by the New York Jets at number two, then the Baltimore Ravens at number three. The Redskins are number sixteen on the list and the Cowboys are twentieth. It just happens that the team on the bottom of the list is the New York Giants franchise.
I ran into a great source at the NFL Rookies Symposium, whose knows a great deal about the Birds sports science program. I’ll be feeding information to you all year long. We’ll see how much a difference that sports science program can make this year.
As for the NFL Prep Academy, it’s a new program created by the NFL to mentor young probable future NFL players. We talk to them about developing as all around people with character. This program includes instruction on excellence in the classroom and in the community. I’m one of the mentors in the program, along with a number of other former NFL players.
Sounds Great G-Man, if Eagles continue to be among the NFL’s Leaders in Sport Science with better overall Strength,Agility,Health & Nutrition with real tangible results in abilitytoplay and produce on the field on a high level, what an attraction that would be for future Player to want to come and play for them..
