What Should We Expect From Jahlil Okafor Tonight?

JahlilOkafor15First round draft pick Jahlil Okafor will debut his low post game for the Sixers tonight in a Utah Summer League game.  The game will be on the Comcast Network at 7pm.

It will be the dawning of a new day for the Sixers fans as they finally get the chance to look at a key player in their future.  We won’t see the finished product tonight, but Okafor is already one of the more polished big men with his low past game to enter the NBA since Tim Duncan.

Duncan came into the NBA after playing four years at Wake Forest University.  Okafor is only 19 and is coming into the NBA after just one year with the Duke Blue Devils.  We will likely get the chance to learn more about his overall game tonight and throughout the summer league action.

We already know he’s an exceptional scorer in the low post and he’s an outstanding passer.  Outside shooters will love playing with Okafor because he’s got a great feel for anticipating the double-team and kicking the ball back out for open three-pointers.

His defensive game in college was criticized, now we’ll get the chance to see if he’s better than advertised.  His defenders say he’s a better defender than he showed at Duke, because Mike Krzyzewski  had playing passively defensively because he didn’t want him to get into foul trouble.  I think he can be a good defender because he has long arms and quick feet.  If he dedicates himself to a be a good defender, I think he can do it.

“I’m not trying to show people anything,” Okafor said after practice Sunday. “I’m just trying to play with my teammates, win some games and get better.”

I want to see a double-double tonight from Okafor.  Give me 15 points and 10 rebounds.

We all know the area of his game that Okafor needs to work on and that’s his free throw shooting.   Improving his free throw shooting will make Okafor a go to guy late in the game.  If he doesn’t improve in that area, he will be a target to foul late in games.

Okafor looked good,Tj McConnell can run point but can’t shoot. McRae was out of control making bad decisions, Grant was ok played aggressively. Holmes and tokoto contributed.

Okafor had a good game

Definitely needs to improve FTs

His hands are too big it effects the way he shoots

But he’s the kind of guy that will work tirelessly to improve his game all around

Before the game I said this would be his stat line :
24pts 8rebs 3as 1 block

I guess not too far off…
