DeMarco Murray Wasn’t Very Active In Training Camp Workout Yesterday

DeMarcoMurray15In the first practice of the 2015 training camp, the leading rusher in the NFL, DeMarco Murray was put on ice.  Murray went through the early drills, but he wasn’t very active later on,.

I stood right by running backs coach Duce Staley and the running backs and watched Murray do this strenuous pull drill, where the running backs try to run against the resistance of a rubber cord attached to their waist.  They run as far as they can against the resistance as one of the other backs stands with other side of that rubber cord attached to their waist.  It’s a very strenuous drill.  It’s the kind of drill where you could strain a muscle, hamstring or groin or back.

I didn’t see Murray do anything strenuous after that drill.  The veteran back didn’t draw any attention to himself throughout the rest of the practice.  So I’ll be trying to find out what happened with him when I get up there later this morning.

I would be surprised if he sprained something during the workout and decided to pullback rather really hurt something severely.

Again, I don’t know why at the moment, but during the first practice, Eagles third down back, Darren Sproles ran with the first team.  Sproles wasn’t just in the line up, but he was carrying the ball quite a bit, which doesn’t make sense.  If he was catching the ball out of the backfield, I would have understood it, but he was carrying the football quite a bit in yesterday’s practice.

Ryan Mathews ran with the second team offense and he took all the reps with the second team offense.

Murray went through all the early drills with his teammates, but for some reason he was held out of the 11-on-11 work.  I will find out about that later this morning.

At the end of practice, I saw Sal Paolantonio of ESPN interviewing Murray, but I didn’t see him after that.  He did not get interviewed by a group of reporters like Sam Bradford, DeMeco Ryans, Malcolm Jenkins, and others.
