You remember how I talked about DeMarco Murray and the fact that he didn’t do much in Sunday’s workout. He did the individual work, but when it came time for the team drills, which are 11-on-11 and the 7-on-7 pass drills, Murray was missing in action. He just stood on the side and watched. Well, Chip Kelly told us yesterday why Murray was put on the shelf for that Sunday workout.
“He’s probably the most conditioned athlete on our team,” Kelly said, “but if you don’t drink the requisite amount of water and electrolytes and have them in your system it doesn’t matter how fit you are.
“We monitor guys in a lot of different ways. There’s a reason we do it … We’re trying to prevent injuries. Instead of saying afterwards, ‘Joe Jones just pulled his hamstring,’ Well, what was his hydration level? Why didn’t we know that before he went out on the field? That’s why we do what we do. It’s just a checks and balances thing. Once it happens, you can’t really get it back.”
The Birds players urinate in a cup on a daily basis and the Eagles training staff tests it for their hydration level. If the hydration level isn’t at a certain level, they shut those players down in order to avoid those pulls and strains.
Murray has been very busy since then, so he’s obviously doing a good job of drinking plenty of water and consuming more than enough electrolytes. There’s no doubt that Kelly’s sports science helps the Birds in this area because they don’t have all the hamstring and groin pulls that sideline so many players.
Yesterday, the Birds had the pads on but they weren’t focused on their running game, so Murray didn’t get a lot of chances to run with the football.
I actually love that the training staff has added the sports science to their team…..it shows that the team is doing its best to keep the players healthy and ready for a long season
mhenski – I’m putting you on notice that you are in danger of being banned from this site. This site isn’t my job. Many times it isn’t easy for me to write on this site because I have a real job. I get to when I can get to it. This weekend I will be at the Hall of Fame and I will be busy. I won’t be able to know what the Eagles are doing.
I enjoy writing and talking about football. I don’t mind people disagreeing because that’s part of the fun of it, but I don’t like people who are so insecure that they’ve got to start insulting anybody who disagrees with them.
I know teenagers who read this site, please eliminate the profanity.
Remember what I said mhenski.
I dont like writers that are so insecure that they have to delete posters who point out that the writer is taking every other writers story and making it their own days later. youre the insecure guy and on top of that you do an awful job at picking and choosing who you tell not to curse (me only). for years your site has been a cesspool of profanity and disrespect and for one reason or another you only come at me. it must be because you havent got over that pornography photo i had, you know the picture of women with her shirt on
BAN ME DONT CARE
