Sam Bradford Wants To Play And He Needs To Play

MarkSanchez&SamBradford1Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford has been definitely putting on a show at each practice with his quick releases, tight spirals and spot-on accuracy.   He’s got his teammates excited about the possibilities. Still Bradford’s excellence at the practices won’t matter, if he can’t take the hits when he’s throwing the ball in and out of the pocket.  This is one of the reasons, Bradford wants to get back on the field on Sunday and play.

“Obviously for me, I think that I need to get back on the field and get those reps,” said Bradford. “It’s been a long time since I’ve taken live-team reps. Now, whether that happens in the first game, the second game, the third game, the fourth game, that’s completely up to coach, but I think it’s definitely beneficial for me to get out there.”

Yes, he needs to be out there on Sunday as long as there’s nothing hurting him that I don’t know about.  Bradford needs to be on the field ASAP.

“The game speed is the biggest thing, getting back out there, playing in a game where the bullets are real and obviously the speed picks up a little bit,” Bradford said. “I think for all quarterbacks, whether you’re coming off an injury or not, you go through Training Camp, you go through OTAs and never get hit. I think getting back out there, taking a hit, going to the ground, getting back up and playing the next play, that’s a hurdle every year that everyone has to overcome.”

Yes, it’s a hurdle everybody has to overcome, but the other players haven’t been thinking about this hurdle for more than a year.  The other players are thinking about making big plays and scoring touchdowns, but Bradford has had getting up after that first hit on his mind.

We don’t know how much Bradford is going to play on Sunday, but I think the sooner he gets hit and gets up, the better.  We’ve got to find out if those skinny legs can take the pounding.

He should go out and play for a series just to get his feet wet and re-acclimated to real game speed and situations. Coddling him will do know good, if he is going to get hurt it is going to happen. Take the bubble wrap off and roll him out…oops, let me not say roll.
