Projecting The 53-Man Roster

QuarterbacksBarkleyandTebow3 (3): Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow

No surprises here. Tebow was the favorite to win the third quarterback job all along, and Matt Barkley took himself out of the running with a poor showing.

Running Backs (4): DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Kenjon Barner

I’m not sure that Barner is quite the lock to make the roster that everyone believes him to be. Remember, a year ago Henry Josey, Matthew Tucker, and Kenjon Barner were all in the conversation for a fourth running back spot, but Kelly ended up keeping just three.

However, I’ll still give Barner a spot, he really did show the team a lot of value and his Oregon background certainly doesn’t hurt either.

Wide Receiver (6): Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Josh Huff, Riley Cooper, Miles Austin, Jeff Maehl

There are a couple of uncertain spots here, but I still think it’s pretty clear how things will shake out.

Yes, Riley Cooper stays. Like him or not, his contract is structured in a way that it actually hurts the team’s cap if he is released. And I think Cooper would still be here anyway.

Miles Austin sticks around as a spare part, and a veteran mentor to the younger guys. Again, I’ve always compared this signing to when the Eagles picked up Antonio Freeman in 2002 at the end of his career, and I see Austin playing a similar role to that of Freeman.

Maehl makes it as the sixth guy, once again. His solid showing against the Packers, combined with his understanding of the offense, and his Oregon history with Chip Kelly gives him a clear edge over Seyi Ajirotutu (a good special teams guy that can’t catch a pass) and Rasheed Bailey (practice squad candidate)

Tight End (3): Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton

Eric Tomlinson had a chance at one point to stick as a fourth tight end, but he’s fallen off since the Colts game.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Eagles added another veteran here to help fill the void while Ertz is out.

Offensive Line (9): Jason Peters, Alan Barbre, Jason Kelce, Andrew Gardner, Lane Johnson, Matt Tobin, Josh Andrews, David Molk, Dennis Kelly

Another position with some uncertainty.

The team has always been high on Matt Tobin, and he’ll stick around as the first guy off of the bench. Dennis Kelly sticks around again simply because there are no better options, and he at least has a couple of starts under his belt. David Molk hasn’t been seriously challenged by anyone for the backup center role.

Defensive Line (7): Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Cedric Thornton, Vinny Curry, Beau Allen, Brandon Bair, Taylor Hart

No surprises here, the same group from last year returns.

Inside Linebackers (5): DeMeco Ryans, Mychal Kendricks, Kiko Alonso, Jordan Hicks, Brad Jones

Brad Jones’ ability to play the outside and contribute on special teams give him the edge over Najee Goodee for the final spot.

Outside Linebackers (4) : Brandon Graham, Connor Barwin, Marcus Smith, Bryan Braman

No shocks here unless you want to consider Marcus Smith one. No better options at this point for depth. Guys like Vinny Curry and Brad Jones will be on call to slide outside in emergencies.

Cornerbacks (5): Byron Maxwell, Nolan Carroll, Eric Rowe, Jaylen Watkins, E.J. Biggers

Biggers and Watkins were supposed to be challenged for their roster spots, but guys like Randall Evans and Denzell Rice have been completely invisible in the preseason.

Safeties (4): Malcolm Jenkins, Walter Thurmond, Chris Maragos, Jerome Couplin

A lot of people have been buying into Ed Reynolds, but I just don’t see it.

Reynolds can’t tackle anyone. At least Couplin brings some physicality to the table.

Special Teams (3): Cody Parkey, Donnie Jones, Jon Dorenbos

Do you Keep a 3rd QB (Tebow) who would likely be Inactive on Game Day over a 10th DB ?
Is Tebow even bright enough to run a Scout Team which is the primary function of a 3rd QB.. The Scout Team QB tries to duplicate that the opponents QB does in terms of Style of Play, Formations, etc, etc,… Can Tebow do this well enough?
I think Kelly can bring back a GJ Kinnie on the Practice Squad to do this Scout Team stuff during the Week and not waste a Roster Spot

Eagles need to add an edge rusher at OLB off the scrap heap or trade the 5th round pick the Steelers gave them for CB Boykin to acquire an OLB edge rusher. Brandon Graham has never been asked to play this many snaps in a season and the other 2 on Denny’s list are hot garbage ( Braman and Smith).

Sources state that Colts Offer a 6th Round Pick for Barner…. Chip is thinking about it… (Kelly still likes Sproles as Punt Returner and RB Mostert could be that 4th RB or stash on Practice Squad)…

Glad to see Rasheed Bailey make the Practice Squad. A homeboy from the area ,projects we grew up in . Way different time frames though . A tough phillly kid.All the talk about RG3 being cut is at least 1 or 2 years premature! Skins spent way too many draft choices and $$ to cut him this quickly.A lot of behind the scenes deal go down before R,G, gets cut as quickly as a rookie or walk on . Bank on that.

Seattle times soon Bailey is penciled in as starting safety ,and rumors that marshawn lynch is upset that $to sign and re-unite him with Fred Jackson is being altered by chancellors hold out.Seattle reports that reworking a 4 year deal would set an awful precedent ..this is getting at least interesting

Seattle’s Run is over, they have too many Selfish Players now
DL Michael Bennett is one of the most divisive, outspoken players in the NFL and doesn’t wear well with Coach’s and Management.. TE Jimmy Graham is not even well liked by many of his new Teammates… Add in an Unhappy Chancellor, Lynch, Injuries to Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Young WR’s
Chris Matthews & Paul Richardson and have lost a lot of Depth and Quality Players the last 2 Off-Season’s
They will make the Playoffs in 2015 since the NFC West is not as Strong with the 49ers rebuilding, but I think the Seahawks mystique, intimidation and dominance is way over..

I never liked him and though he too soft and injury prone as a Pro for he did not have that Burning Fire and Work Ethic similar to Jadaveon Clowney who I also think will be a Bust…

Eagles and Cardinals discussing a trade for QB Matt Barkley

Bark would flourish in that offense and has a strong chance to start when Palmer goes down as he usually does..

QB Barkley is not a Good Fit at all for HC Bruce Arians System at all, which is predicated on having a Big Arm with a nice Deep Pass which Barkley does not Possess at all..
Bruce Arians has Coached with the Steelers with Big Ben, Falcons with Joe Flacco and Colts with Andrew Luck and Carson Palmer with Arizona who all have much Stronger Arms

How Cool would that Be.. The Linc would be exploding and the Jet’s won’t know what hit them…

Anyone wonder why Chip hasn’t committed to Tebow yet?

Is RG3 released yet?

That’s why, I think he’s waiting to see if RG3 is released

I know hes a bit of a head case, but his talent is undeniable

I love Tebow’s heart, drive, determination and will to win and attitude and want him to make this team

But I think if Chip had a choice, if it came down to Griffin or Tebow starting a game for him as the 3rd QB, he’d rather have Griffin

If hes released, I see Chip looking into it… But Id rather have Tebow

Adrian Wojnarowski of yahoo is reporting Sixers are about to sign PG Kendall Marshall. – I thought the down side of D’Angelo Russell’s NBA prospects was he would be Kendall Marshall. Slow footed PG who cannot get to rim or defend very well who is easily back doored. I don’t get it. Kendall Marshall is a turtle and that was before coming off knee surgery which he ended his Milwaukee season.

Then remain as silent as mice when Curt Schilling gets suspended by their ESPN version of Roger Goodell. Phony Balony Hypocrites.
