What took place this past Sunday will forever go down as one of the worst Eagles performances in franchise history. A home opener, against the Dallas Cowboys, the fans were ready to leave every ounce of emotion at Lincoln Financial Field, the team was not.
Where does the team go from this point? Will they simply turn things around because the talent on the roster is there, but it’s been merely a lack of execution throughout the first two games?
Changes need to start immediately or the team will find itself 0-3 with how the New York Jets are playing. The scheme of running plays needs to focus on the current running backs of Murray and Mathews. The offensive line limits what types of runs the team can execute at the moment, defenders are constantly in the backfield and something must change. Toy with the idea of using a guy like Celek not as a tight-end on the line of scrimmage but as a full back. Stop the runs that require the backs to bounce to the outside, that’s east-west, time for the north-south style you wanted, go run smash mouth football.
Enough with guys at the wide receiver position that can block down field, this is the NFL, part of their job is blocking. Cooper and Austin can play special teams, they offer nothing as receivers. Huff is the only receiver with deep speed; but any type of NFL level pattern appears to be too complicated. Make it simple for the former Oregon Duck, have him run as fast as he can, let him use his speed to get past the defender and Bradford show off “his arm.” It’s either Huff making the catch or the ball is overthrown. Maclin was not resigned, and a wide receiver was drafted in the first round, get the football in Agholor’s hands and let him make plays in space. Space; where has that gone, the type of patterns that have the larger body receivers in Matthews and Ertz are Pop-Warner. Do everyone a favor and bring some of that creativity back, defenses know what the play is and it’s time to respond to that like a head coach in the national football league.
Talk to Billy Davis, let him know that you are going to sustain drives moving forward so his average at best play calling won’t be exposed as often. Tell him “my bad” for leaving him without a slot cornerback, and for moving up in round two to take Eric Rowe only to have him not contribute.
Chip, this is Philadelphia, and for your team to not breathe the same passion as the fan base will turn even the biggest believers in your system against you.
At the end of the day, Philly fans know football; they can see through the patchwork offensive line and fear in the eyes of Sam Bradford. They recognize errors in judgement, both through the draft and in free agency.
You are the head and general manager, the man with the quick jokes and all the answers.
Well, nobody feels like laughing right now, so what are you going to do on Sunday to bring life back into this football team?
It would be nice to see a 2 Back Backfield and have Bradford take some snaps under Center… Use TE Ertz/Burton as a HB/FB or even have both 2 RB’s Operate out of the Backfield…
Let’s see some Receivers or Backs go in motion to mix things up …
Chips Offense is “Horizontal” (sideline to sideline) and it would be nice to see some “Vertical” plays added to keep Defenses and Secondaries more honest
Many observers of the Eagles Offense state the same underlining issues.. Tempo alone is not going to Win in the NFL, when used properly it can be very effective but without changes things up from formations, to motions to player packages to tempo it alone becomes too predictable… The same 10-12 Plays we have seen game after game that rely on execution are just not working any longer and need to be expanded with fresh plays, variable formations, players in motion..
Agree Pman…I was just thinking the same thing, about the split back, backfield. Haven’t seen much of it. Possibly could help get the TE passing game going. Also, I seen a stat that Demarco has received the ball on run plays 18 out 21 times from the shotgun….definitely has to mix things up in that regard, whether is Murray, Matthews or Sproles.
Play calling on first down has to get better. We need to see some 2nd and 4’s or 2nd and 5’s a little more often. Chip has to do a better job play calling, period. Bradford with his injury history….you can’t tell me he doesn’t have injury in the back of his mind. Chip has to try and put his mind at ease with a little better play calling. Although, I do understand that his run game has been very ineffective, so the pass to run ratio would be lopsided. Can’t keep running the ball for negative yards…
We gotta take some ahots down field early and give bradford confidence early in games….we start so slow its hard to come back frm
I don’t think we are built to run that type of offense. We are undersized in the interior of our line and we won’t be able to get a decent push. This offense is to gimmicky
The Chipper every once in a while put Peters and Johnson next to each other in the past
Cole Hamels is playing excellent baseball for the Rangers in his last 7 starts. Won yesterday. Phillies have 9 games left in tank for the number one overall draft pick game plan. If the Phils finish 4-5 in those last 9 games they will receive the number one selection.
