The lack of excitement for the Eagles feels like week 17 of last season. One person that “is” eager; quarterback Mark Sanchez who will start this Sunday with Sam Bradford unable to suit up due to injury.
Mark Sanchez has expressed his desire to bring the Eagles back to a respectable .500 record with a victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of the “give me” wins that everyone circled on the calendar when the 2015 schedule was released; is anything but a coin flip as these 4-5 teams prepare for one another.
The feeling going into this game is familiar; Eagle fans have minimum expectations, and even a victory will likely come with speculation moving forward. The only truth that is known about the 2015 Eagles is how their defense will play. The mystery of the offensive game plan and how it will be executed is questionable.
Mark Sanchez will do his best with the limited resources at wide receiver against a Buccaneers defense that has played better in recent weeks. Could Sanchez be the answer for getting production from first round rookie Nelson Agholor? Will the reunion of Sanchez and Jordan Matthews provide the big production that the pair was responsible on nearly a weekly basis in 2014? One of the two will have to happen to give the Eagles any chance of executing their passing attack. Josh Huff contributed to the offense last week, so he is likely to revert to near invisibility this game.
Honestly, I don’t see either being the case this week, I feel the Buccaneers are going limit what Murray and Sproles do with the rushing attack, and Chip Kelly is going to force Sanchez to throw the football 40+ times which is a recipe for disaster with the turnover prone quarterback.
I do feel the Eagles will keep rookie quarterback Jameis Winston in check, but I worry about the mismatch that Mike Evans brings and the dual threat of running back Doug Martin. I don’t expect either skill players to have their best game of the season, but they will extend drives on third downs, forcing the Eagles defense to do too much.
This game has the potential to turn ugly for those Eagle fans at the game who expect “better” from their football team. “Chip Kelly must go” chants could certainly be the overwhelming theme in the fourth quarter.
Are the Eagles the better football team, especially with the game being in Philadelphia? I’d like to say that “on paper” the Eagles have the better roster, and the Buccaneers are limited on offense, their defense lacks a consistent pass rush, and the Eagles are “desperate” for a win.
By doing so, I find myself in the same position of excusing why the Eagles have failed to win games they should have won this season.
Sanchez is going to look like a backup quarterback, and Winston is going to look like a quarterback with a very bright future in the NFL.

The Ottawa Redblacks host the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the CFL Eastern Final today at one. Winner meets the Western champ next week for the oldest trophy in professional football, the venerable Grey Cup.
Its windy and about 5 degrees, so I am a little worried because the RedBlacks are a passing team led by the ageless Temple alum Henry Burris (40) and 4 1000 yrd WRs (Eagles should pick one up).
Going to be a wild stadium, and I’m looking forward to it. Cheers instead of the boos that I fear may be raining down at the Linc. I’ll PVR the Eagles and watch when I get back from the game.

Offense looks crisper, faster, and more efficient. If Sanchez can eliminate turnovers and play consistently he is a better fit for this offense than Bradford.
