How Much Money Would You Pay Sam Bradford?

SamBradfordvsGiants2If you’re training to be a NFL General Manager, let’s talk about the Eagles quarterback situation.  Are you going to resign Sam Bradford?  If so, how much money are you willing to give him.   He improved as the season went along, but he didn’t lead you to the playoffs despite playing in one of the worst divisions in the NFL.

Will you give $16 million a year?  What about $17 or $18 million dollars a year?  Would you get in a bidding war for him?

Peter King of MMQB brought some interesting things to light about the resigning of Sam Bradford that didn’t surprise me.

“Bradford won’t be motivated to return to Philadelphia over any other team now that free agency looms. His agent, Tom Condon, is a get-the-most-you-can-regardless-of-team guy, and Bradford isn’t crazy about Philadelphia the city anyway. He probably wishes there was a team in his favorite place, Oklahoma City. And who’s to say the next coach—current offensive coordinators Adam Gase of Chicago and Doug Pederson of Kansas City are popular early names—will want Bradford at $18 million a year or more?”

Bradford is a laid back guy, who has never been in the heat that surrounds the Eagles.  I don’t think he wants to play in the middle of all the controversy, which surrounds the Eagles.  You’ve got to have tough skin to be the Eagles quarterback.

The only two teams I could see coming after Bradford would be the Houston Texans and the Cleveland Browns.  You know he wouldn’t want to play for the Browns, but the Texans could be a nice place for a quarterback.  You’ve got DeAndre Hopkins, one of the four or five best wide receivers in the league to throw the ball to and you have J.J. Watt leading the defense.

If Houston makes him an offer, how high will you go to sign him.

Personally, I don’t think you can go any higher than $18 million.  Think about it, the guy hasn’t really accomplished anything in his NFL career.  He’s never led a team to the playoffs or to a winning record.  He hasn’t achieved what Mark Sanchez, Kirk Cousins and Nick Foles have accomplished.

With the Eagles only $22 Million under the Cap for 2016 and locked into a couple of bad contracts from the Chip Kelly era, and with Young Players lie Fletcher Cox, B Logan, V Curry, Zac Ertz & Lane Johnson are all in line for extensions, and with many other positions needing an upgrades (OL, WR, DT, ILB)
2016 is not the Season to overpay for an Average QB
In a much improved NFC Conference, and a NFC East Division still in transition, the Eagles should focus their resources for the Future a dosas on Sam Bradford rebuild other neglected areas such as the OL & WR

Despite the fact I think he is horrid I’d give him like 4 year 45 mill and shape it so we can get out of it any time we want like 49ers can with krap. If let Fitzpatrick and Tyrod Taylor set the market first tho.

Imo u gotta sign a qb so might as well pay the loser u know will stink and hopefully that results in a high draft pick and a real franchise qb without going hinkie on the fans and intentionally tank.

I think its fair to say Bradford was 7-6 because like a starting pitcher, he had the lead when he left the Miami game. If you are willing to give some latitude to a guy who hadn’t played for two years and throw out the first quarter, he would be 6-3, which is pretty good. His

His QB rating would be north of 100 over his last nine starts if you gave him just half of the dropped passes without even considering the YAC or TDs, or the interception that Celek allowed to be ripped from his hands and then the ball hit the ground. He also had a top ten QB rating when he got hurt after the first seven games of 2013. And his receivers here were pretty mediocre similar to what he worked with in St Louis. So was his O line. He has definitely trended upward in the second half. This team sucks because of Chip Kelly and his stupid “tempo” not because the players suck. There is plenty of talent here and Bradford is part of that. A competent coach could do something with this group if they tweak the O line a bit. Next year is lost because there is no way they can go better than .500 with their brutal schedule. They have to play the best division in each conference plus Seattle on the road and Dallas should be much healthier and Washington is not a fluke so they are not going anywhere. The next coach is destined for mediocrity with that schedule and no second round pick and not much FA money to spend.

very difficult to defend a player and use a lot of ‘ifs’– all teams have drops, all teams have receivers get the ball ripped out of their hands.
next year is not lost… we don’t have any idea what the plan is. You blast chip as incompetent (which is true) and then say this group is dead in the water- i don’t believe that. Christ they werent even allowed to audible- that alone should improve performance!

Well enjoy Ryan Mallett or TJ Yates or Mark Sanchez at the QB position. We can then sign Cox to a 6 year 90 million dollar contract and be like Miami with Suh or Watts with Houston and win 5-7 games a year. DT are so important in the NFL. lol

I would not pay Sam Bradford the money he is reportedly looking for. He is no better than Joe Flacco and Flacco has a much better resume. However, after he got his money the team has nose dived because they could not resign the players that helped make that team great, and they were drafting in the mid range which brought them average to good talent..but not good enough. I do not have a problem with signing Bradford, but not at the money he is looking for. He turned down 18 million per at the beginning of the season, I would not give him anymore than that because the eagles will be strapped and unable to do anything during the off season. Sam Bradford had a good season, but let’s face it, he was throwing to wide open receivers, 70% of his passes were 10 yards or less, and he threw a bunch of crossing routes and seam routes between the numbers. Given his overall losing record, no playoff wins, and injury history, there is no way I pay Sam Flacco money..he can not carry the team by himself as evidenced by his time with the Rams and Eagles. I have no problem rebuilding through the draft..2017 will bring some very good QB’s that I would prefer to Bradford. I can give 2016 a pass understanding that the team will start to truly rebuild. The Eagles can not approach this off season afraid to lose Bradford..if he was a proven winner then I would understand, but the truth of the matter he has not had a winning season and I would have no problem with moving on from him and going into next year with an interim QB!

Fletcher Cox dominated the Eagles defense to 30th vs the pass and 30h vs the run As teams rushed for historic numbers right up the middle. Grant it Cox played well but if he doesn’t have pieces around him he is useless. Why the hell would I pay a DT any big money unless we had it. CB, QB and rushers get big money not DT. Suh, Watts, Richardson etc. Those teams don’t win. Sorry Fletcher but you are replaceable. I’m not giving you QB money. Good grief.

Bull…

Sam Bradford played as well as any QB in the league, with the exception of Russell Wilson and Tom Brady, with the horrid offensive line play and the total absence of any outside receivers.
I know the “stat fools” want to trot out a bunch of meaningless stats but they simply do not tell the story. There is not a single game you can point to and say…”Damm…Sam sucked so bad he lost the game for us.” Even early in the year when he wasn’t playing that well.
Only a complete idiot wants to trust Howie the Accountant Roseman to rebuild this team into a Super Bowl contender. If you get rid of Bradford you are putting the major decisions of this team in the hands of Roseman, you are rebuilding…and that spells complete and unmitigated disaster.
Roseman is responsible for the downfall of the team from the door. If you argue that Chip Kelly the GM failed the team…the reality is that Kelly was confident in the football guy we had…Tom Gamble…and it was Roseman who got rid of Gamble. Kelly had no choice but to make the power play. Now with Roseman back in power it would be a disaster to get rid of Bradford and have him try and rebuild the team..because that’s what we would be doing…

We are doomed…

Hang it up KB, Bradford is a Chip Kelly guy adn acquisition..
I guarantee you that Howie Roseman has Zero Intention of keeping Sam Bradford around… Howie Roseman will stick it in deep on every Chip Kelly move that he possibly can unless it costs him $$$ to do so … Say Bye Bye to Sam Bradford, Josh Huff, Kiko Alonso, Brandon Bair, Taylor Hart, Kenyon Barner,Jeff Maehl and any other Duck on the Team

OK. He hasn’t accomplished what Foles, Sanchez and Cousins have. Would you take Foles or Sanchez over Bradford? I think not. Cousins, maybe. The question is, what is the alternative. Bradford’s ceiling is maybe the 10th best QB in the league. Much higher than Foles/Sanchez. I think if you put him in a classic NFL offense and get rid of the Kelly college garbage offense, he can be successful, particularly with a stable of good RBs. Build an offense that Murray, Sproles and Matthews can thrive in. Upgrade the O-line and WR and you have a shot at being a decent offense.

Agree richcow – if we listen to these guys we are in danger of becoming the Browns.
