Howie Roseman Talks About Bradford, Foles and Cox

FletcherCoxvsSeahawks1Eagles defacto GM Howie Roseman sat down and talked to Dave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com about the off season and some key personnel on the Eagles roster. He thinks they have a very good coaching staff and they’re leaning on their expertise in the evaluation of their current players and draft prospects.

Roseman took the time to emphasize how much the experience and expertise of the coaches will have a major influence on what they do at the quarterback position.

“We like Sam, and we’d like to have him back”, Roseman said regarding Sam Bradford . ” It goes then between all of us and whether we can figure something out that makes sense on both sides,” said Roseman. “Sometimes we get into a situation where we sit here and it will make sense from the team’s perspective but when you’re talking about a negotiation, it’s also got to work for the other side and the player, and we understand that. But hopefully this will all work out and we’ll look at that depth chart when we line up here in July and be really excited about the position.”

Roseman told us whyNick Foles’ name has been heard at the Nova Care Complex.

“Well it’s our job as we run this team as we help kind of put it together to look at every option at that position,” he said. “You sit in the office right now and there’s not a lot of names on the quarterback depth chart that are under contract right now. And so we’ve gotta look at every option. We’ve gotta look at every possibility, and they go from starting possibilities to backup possibilities to who’s going to be our third. We take four to camp, we’ve got one right now on our roster, and so we’ve gotta bring quarterbacks in here. So every discussion that we’re having isn’t necessarily only on the basis of who’s going to be our starter, it’s also: who’s going to be here to compete and add depth and value to that position?”

You could tell by what Roseman said about Fletcher Cox that the Birds have been working very hard to sign him. Y0u could hear a bit of frustration in Roseman’s voice as he thinks about negotiating a possible $70 to $80 million dollar deal.

“Fletcher is a great player, theres no doubt about that.  He can play in any scheme. He’s a great person.  He’s a huge asset to the Philadelphia Eagles.  We want him here long-term.  There’s no question. He knows that.  We have every intention of him being here.  We don’t want to get into contract negotiations, other than to say he’s someone who is extremely important to this franchise.  There’s no question what type of player he is and what type of person he is.

Howie and co. have very very tough. but well paid jobs , if Cox is unreasonable with his$ demands , well they are in a tough spot. Fans already are crying for Sambo to be signed,Sometimes ,I think the hardest job,ln sports is the Joe Banners, the Howies and of course Mr Lurie of the world . The fans do not, do a lot of quality, fair analyisis of the Eagles . They love to holler and scream Pay the man his money ! Pay the man.!And when the Eagles conform to the demands they are called fools and bozos ,for putting together a dream team. Remember the grossly overpaid and underachieved dream team?So easy to judge and demand a super bowl this year , but it is also mostly devoid of any fair thinking. But that,s the iggle fans, for you. Youse guys do lub your iggles, no doubt about that So go , g,o Iggles. Fair thinking? Of course not ,we are the Iggles,How can any iggle fan drunkren , stoned, or sober expect a super bowl this year?/ or even next year/???

Howie has to get Cox inked before the draft long term. The strength of the 2016 draft at pick #13 will be DT. Best player available and team need will both line up, it will be hard not to select Fletcher’s replacement if Cox turned down Howie’s offer.

Let me get this straight…you want your team executives to base multimillion dollar business decisions on fan polls? brilliant.
I love cox- best player on the team-however the teams with the three highest paid D tackles were the bucs, bills and dolphins– all were below 500– not sure its a big money position.

No point paying him now it’s a bad business decision. Keep him at his current deal then try to get him to agree to long term and if he doesn’t franchise him for a year or 2. If u know ur gonna pay him to the highest dt deal it makes no financial sense to do it now.

I have stated that many times. To pay a DT 100 million is ridiculous/ They just don’t impact a game that much/ The same with WR/ The highest paid WR don’t win either. Megatron Dez AJ Green Julio Jones. D Thomas is avg at best and fleeced Denver, he isn’t even as good as E Sanders. You pay pass rushers, QBs, LT and shut down CB big Its another tough spot for the Eagles. There are a lot of DT coming out in the draft. Buffalo, Miami etcc have 100s of millions invested in their Dline. lol

D Thomas is a beast Peyton manning was basically the worst qb in the NFL this year worse than bradfraud. He couldn’t throw over 15 yards and when he did it was a duck where the wr had to stop or wait forever or it was under thrown. Sanders is like Edelman in that he dominated inside of 10 yards and got yac. D Thomas is a freak man

My opinion on Thomas is he isnt worth the money. Drops and locked down in playoffs couldnt get open. Norman took his lunch money but hey 90 million is what hes worth lol.-

Thomas is average at best? Yep, last year in what most considered to be a down year for him, he had 105 catches for 1300+ yds. Totally average numbers.

Just imagine this. If Suh and Cox and guys like that are getting 100 million dollars for 5 sacks ayear and 30 tackles. Its a passing league.. Luke Kuechly should ask for 160 million for what he does. lol

With Fltcher Cox our pass rush and defense ranked 30th. With Fletcher Cox guys like Doug Martin ripping us to shreds and our run defense in the 20s. Fletcher Cox avg about 5 sacks a year and 30 tackles yet Eagle fans want to pay him 100 million. lol

DT can’t make all the plays in a 3-4 buddy. You need the LBs to make plays and the Eagles LBs didn’t make any plays last year. I get your point but you are trying to lay the blame all on one guy when the defense as a whole was awful.

If you think that the Eagles can just pluck a DT that will be as effective as Cox straight out of the draft, then I got a bridge that I want to sell you.

Cox is a great player never said he wasnt. I dont care what defense they play in a DT isnt worth a 100 million dollar contract no matter how you slice it. They dont impact the game enough. Now if it was Von Miller thats different. Your going to pay Cox as much as Luck, Manning, Brady, Wilson? Haha i got a bridge to sell you. Lmao. Show me a SB winner with a 100 million dollar DT.

In carolina they dont pay there DT 100 million, in Seattle what DT makes that?Arizona same thing. In Denver Von Miller a pass rusher will get that. Only dumb ass 6-10 teams ike Buffalo and Miami pay that assanine price.

Hell Eagle fans are so smart they are worried about Bradfords contract but don’t care that the Eagles are going to give a fucking DT more money than Tom Brady and Russell Wilson. lol unbelievable. Let me know how that works out.

DT Vince Wilfork and Haloti Ngata were so dominate and very arguably could be considered the best players on their respective teams during Super Bowl wins.

Transitioning from a 3-4 to a 4-3 ,and having a chance this year to watch the effectiveness of cox ,will to me be a litmus test ,I’d want the Eagles to fully take advantage of.Time and coaching changes (Billy Davis) will put a spotlight on how this Dee performs in contrast..Waiting on cox ,is in my estimation ,a tactical estimation of howie to try (in vain) to get a home team discount from Sam..He’s probably working both sides against the other ,making clear to Cox people and at the Same time assuring SAMs people of his intentions..it’s called ,negotiations..

WOW articles coming out the sixers were close to trading okafor to the celtics for their unprotected nets pick. hmmmmmmmmm if true im not sure how i feel about that

okafor can get points any time he wants but for every basket he scores he is giving up just as much or more. guys like the good lopez, can score but cant defend like at all and so far he seems real scared to rebound.

okafor reminds me on a macro sense of dirk obviously without the mid range and 3pt jumper. dirk could get away with not playing defense because he could play the 4 because of his legendary jumper. okafor has nothing outside of paint offense. he is young so i guess that can develop but i wouldnt bet on it.

hopefully the celtics love okafor and we can revist this trade come draft day. hypothetically if we got the #1 pick we would have no need for okafor at all anymore, so if we could get simmons than maybe the celts get the #2 pick then we could get ingram. and in total dream land if lakers ended up getting the 4 pick we could get heidl. that would be totally insane:

pg ish
sg heidl
sf ingram
pf simmons
c noel

embiid and saric with depth.

would take a bit to gel so we could still be looking at josh jackson next year…

think it was a good decision to pass on the trade becuase if the nets pick didnt turn into the #1 or #2 pick it wouldve been a huge fail. hopefully the celtics would still don this on draft night

I am more inclined to build around Okafor, a 19 year old with scoring ability and has potential to improve his all around game. He is to young to trade now. The sixers can’t keep moving pieces, at some point you have to keep your good players. Noel is no one to build around, nor is Embiid until he proves he can stay healthy which he has not thus far, he hasn’t even played 1 minute of a game in two seasons. We can get pieces to build around Okafor. I love Simmons, not as high on Ingram yet, I watched him get solved Saturday against Louisville.

EHL i feel like you can absolutely build around noel if you have a 4 that has a midrange or longer game. noel does a lot on the floor imo. okafor you can build around also but at center only and he has some huge deficiencies there at rebounding and defense. but i dont see any way possible you can build around both of them starting.

granted he is a rookie and young but his +- average is a good indication of how bad the team is when he is on the floor. his average is 4 pts worse than anyone else…

one of noel or okafor are going to have to go sooner or later and if getting simmons was a given id chose to keep okafor with him but i dont think noel is going to get you much. if i was given the choice of simmons and noel and heidl or ingram OR simmons noel and okafor im taking simmons noel ingram as i think that lineup can play together… cant wait to see them ping pong balls come up. i need this team to be good again

embiid doesnt even exist to me

We have Okafor, we do not know if Simmons or Ingram is even going to come out. Build around Okafor. I can find another Noel much easier than I can find an Okafor. Sixers are not going to get two out of the first five picks in this draft, forget it.

Joel Embiid is the Sixers Center of the Future. He is going to dominate the Eastern Conference. Brown is giving Okafor every chance to earn the PF spot going forward. There is no rush to trade Okafor, half the league wants him. Chicago wants him, Celtics want him, Hawks want him, I’m sure 10 other teams offered something for him. Okafor’s value is increasing.

Yeah you can stay not worried about the big man with foot problems that has had him miss 2 seasons already.

I will believe it when I see it. I hope so, but I am still pretty skeptical.

I remember Robert Covington calling him JoJo and saying he is ferocious on the boards. Sixers have a MVP candidate in Embiid. He might not be as good as Anthony Davis but he is in West. Dee Lynam already said he is the best player on the team which means she thinks he is significantly better than Okafor (Okafor looks like a future all star to me so better than an all-star means MVP candidate)

Embiid is 7’2 and still growing according to the trainers. His foot will always have to endure the pressure from his weight, sometimes the body just can not handle the weight. I would not give Embiid the benefit of the doubt, as a matter of fact, if he can’t play the entire season next year due to another foot injury or set back, I would move on from him.

With the Sixers ramping up Joel Embiids rehabilitation, its a very positive sign

This is what I do know, if Colangelo was more secure with and had a better read on Embiid’s long term health, then I believe Okafor would have definitely been dealt. Not a doubt in my mind

I told you guys months and months ago that Okafor may be the “odd man out” if Embiid’s health holds up

This Celtics deal is one of many on the table that was being discussed regarding Okafor

I’m the one saying keep them all together at least until the next trade deadline, but I’m not 100% sure that will happen…

I think the Sixers will be very active this summer via trades and free agency..

Also the guy you build around is Embiid who is a mix between both Okafor and Noel to be perfectly honest

He has post scoring ability, uniquely gifted with deep range, jumper, can defend etc.. he has generational talent…

Colangelo said himself a few weeks ago that if Embiid is healthy then they may look to move one of the bigs or it can be discussed…

I believe that the Sixers were fielding offers for Okafor to set up something later on down the line when they feel more secure in Embiid’s long term health, which I think they’re nearing.. If all checks out positively, then Okafor may be on the move this summer…

Sixers are in a very good spot.. they have plenty of options going into the draft and free agency, and long-term too

NFL combine starts tomorrow !!!! Excited, I like being introduce to the new talent. I know an OLB edge rusher is going to look so good this week but the birds are stuck with the Juan Castillo reincarnated wide nine with Vinny Curry and Brandon Graham. ( depressing)

2 fumble recoveries in 4 years
4 ints in 5 years – this is fine

cracked 100 tackles once here. sorry i expect more from my mlb. he was an average player that rarely left a mark on a game. disappeared for long stretches at a time.
