The Philadelphia Phillies lost their fourth straight game on Friday afternoon, falling to the Mets 7-2. Their record drops to 0-4.

On The Mound

  • Jared Eickhoff made his first start of the season, and lasted five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three.
  • Eickhoff gave up an unearned run in the second inning, thanks to an error by shortstop Freddy Galvis. He attempted to make it through the sixth inning, but he was unable to record an out, allowing a two-run double before being lifted from the game.
  • Dailer Hinojosa, now removed from the closer’s role, took over in the sixth inning. He recorded two outs, and didn’t allow any more runs to score.
  • Daniel Stumpf, fresh off of a rough debut on Thursday, got the final out of the sixth inning.
  • James Russell took over in the seventh inning. He recorded the first out, but then gave up a single and two walks to load the bases. Russell then gave up an RBI single to Neil Walker, and a two-run single to Michael Conforto.
  • After Russell allowed three runs to score, he was replaced by David Hernandez. Hernandez allowed an inherited run to score to make it a 7-1 game.
  • Hector Neris pitched a scoreless eighth.

At The Plate

  • The Phils scored one of their only runs in the top of the sixth. Eickhoff doubled, and was driven in on an RBI-single from Odubel Herrera.
  • Cesar Hernandez tacked on a run when the game was out of hand in the eighth inning. He finished the game 2-4.
  • Maikel Franco was out of the lineup with a shoulder injury.
  • Freddy Galvis was the leadoff hitter again, going 1-4.
  • Ryan Howard went 0-3 with a strikeout.
  • Andres Blanco played third for Franco, and went 1-4.
  • Darin Ruf pinch-hit for Howard in the ninth inning to face former Phil Antonio Bastardo. Ruf picked up a single.
  • Cedric Hunter played right field, going 1-3 with a single.
  • Cameron Rupp was the catcher, going 0-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Emmanuel Burris started in left, and went 0-3.

Final Thoughts

With an 0-4 start, an offense with no pop, and a wretched bullpen, it may be fair to believe at this point that the Phils will never be above the .500 mark this season.
