The Philadelphia Phillies won their second straight game on Tuesday night, taking down the Padres 2-1. Their record improves to 4-5.
On The Mound
- Jerad Eickoff shined in his second start of the season, tossing seven scoreless innings.
- Eickoff allowed just four hits, and struck out nine.
- David Hernandez endured a rocky eighth inning. The veteran allowed a hit, gave up a walk, and also had to overcome an error by Ryan Howard, but still managed to get out of the inning without allowing a run by striking out the side.
- Jeanmar Gomez gave up a run on a walk and a hit in the ninth inning, but was able to hang on and convert his fourth save.
At The Plate
- The offense generated just two runs on five hits.
- Maikel Franco supplied both of the team’s runs, hitting a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI-double in the third.
- Cesar Hernandez was the leadoff man for the second straight game, and went 1-4.
- Odubel Herrera went 1-4 with two strikeouts.
- Ryan Howard turned in an 0-3 effort and worked a walk.
- Cameron Rupp went 1-3 with a single.
- Freddy Galvis went 0-2 with a walk.
- The outfield combo of Cedric Hunter and Peter Bourjous combined to go 0-6. Hunter’s average has dropped to .083, while Bourjos stands at .148.
Final Thoughts
Its very impressive that the Phillies have four wins in spite of their lack of offensive firepower.
The Phils have only scored more than three runs one time in nine games, and they’ve been held to two runs or less in six games.
