The Philadelphia Phillies snapped their two-game losing streak on Wednesday night, taking down the Mets 5-4 in extra innings. Their record improves to 7-9.
On The Mound
- Jeremy Hellickson had another mediocre outing, lasting just 4.1 innings and giving up four runs on 10 hits and a walk.
- Hellickson struck out six batters.
- Hellickson gave up two runs in the second inning (one on a wild pitch) and let up two more in the fifth before getting replaced.
- Hector Neris came on to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out six batters.
- Dailer Hinojosa worked two scoreless innings, holding the Mets down in eighth and ninth innings
- Jeanmar Gomez pitched two scoreless frames in the 10th and 11th innings.
At The Plate
- Freddy Galvis put the Phils on the board in the second inning with a two-run homer, his second of the season. Galvis also got the walk-off rally started with a double in the 11th.
- In the fourth inning, David Lough manufactured a run with a sacrifice fly.
- Down by a run in the seventh inning, Peter Bourjos singled home a run to tie the game at four. Bourjos would later win the game with a walk-off base hit.
- Odubel Herrera was inserted into the leadoff spot, and went 1-4 with a single and a walk.
- Cesar Hernandez went 0-5 out of the two-hole, and failed to get a bunt down in the 10th inning that could have gotten Herrera to scoring position.
- Maikel Franco went back to the three-hole, but went 0-5 with three strikeouts.
- Ryan Howard went 0-4 with two strikeouts and a walk.
- David Lough went 2-3 with a double and a walk.
- Carlos Ruiz recorded a three-hit game.
Final Thoughts
I like what outfielder David Lough has done since being called up from the minors.
In three games, Lough has recorded a hit in each of his appearances, two of them going for extra-bases. He turned in a multi-hit game tonight.
The Phils finally surpassed 10 hits in a game, and even scored more than three runs for just the third time all season.

Go Phillies, Battle Hard and Play all 9 Innings
By the way, Hellickson had a very Poor Outing, not Mediocre… Giving up 10 Hits and 4 Runs in 4.1 Innings is Terrible, not Mediocre.. ..
This is what you will see from them all year. One game lose 11-0 and look like the bad news bears and the next you will see them scratch and claw. Its the growing pains necessary… what i’d like to see is down the stretch playing real solid ball, bit of a spoiler etc.
HC Mackanin batted Pitcher Hellickson in the 8th spot and OF Peter Bourjos in the 9th spot and it worked. I think Mackanin’s plan was to get Bourjos on base and in scoring position for Galvis & Herrera not be an RBI man but it surprisingly worked. I mostly watched the Flyers playoff win until it ended but it was nice to see an extra inning Phils win to cap off a great day of sports after the Flyers game.
