Thoughts On Sam Bradford’s Trade Demand

SamBradford&TerrellSuggsOn Monday morning, news broke that Eagles’ starting quarterback Sam Bradford has informed the team that he wants to be traded, and will no longer attend the club’s offseason workouts.

Yes that’s right, Sam Bradford, he who has had a six-year career filled with nothing but disappointment, he who has never once quarterbacked a team to the playoffs or even a winning record, he who has never thrown for over 4,000 yards and has only eclipsed the 20-touchdown mark once in his miserable career, now has the stones to believe that the team has insulted him, and wants to start fresh with a new club.

Here’s some of my takeaways.

Bradford Should Not Be Surprised The Eagles Want To Draft A Quarterback

Could Sam Bradford really not see the writing on the wall?

Apart from his extensive resume of failures and shortcomings in the NFL, the Eagles hadn’t given him any reason to believe they were committed to him as their future at the quarterback position.

When the Eagles only signed him to a two-year contract that was essentially a one-year “prove-it” deal, it should have been apparent right then and there that they weren’t counting on him to establish himself as a long-term answer.

Another telling sign should have been the fact that the club went above and beyond to sign Chase Daniel in free agency, providing them with an insurance policy in case of another Bradford injury, or just ineffective play.

Finally, the Birds had been doing their homework on every quarterback prospect in the draft over the last few months, combined with the public statements from head coach Doug Pederson that he’d like to be able to draft and develop a quarterback.

Bradford Exposes Himself As A Poor Leader

So much for all the nonsensical talk of Bradford being some kind of leader.

If Bradford was a true leader, he wouldn’t let this news faze him in the least. He’d simply be determined to come out and prove that he is the man for the job by showing up on the field, getting results, and (heaven forbid) prove that he’s worth at least a few dollars of the countless millions he’s racked in during his career.

Instead, Bradford’s actions shows that he’s a coward and a quitter with an incredible sense of entitlement. It’s a crying shame that poor Sam Bradford was only given $22 million guaranteed by the Eagles this offseason. Poor Sam Bradford got a raw deal out in St. Louis. Poor Sam Bradford has potential. Poor Sam Bradford never had weapons. Poor Sam Bradford never had an offensive coach. Poor Sam Bradford had some drops last season.

The excuses and the pity party with this guy never ends.

Instead of doing what’s best for the team (which is paying his massive salary) and the various players from Zach Ertz to Jordan Matthews who have come out and publicly supported him since the season ended, Bradford turned around and quit on all of them because he couldn’t deal with the reality that the front office didn’t see him as the long-term guy.

This isn’t (and never was) a guy that was going to inspire his teammates, bring out the best in lesser players, and perform like a truly great quarterback. This is a guy that has been failure his entire career, and its pretty apparent why he’s never had success in any of his six seasons.

It’s no wonder the locker room fell apart last year, in spite of Sam’s pregame shower speeches.

Bradford’s Thought Process Is Laughable

So Bradford is up in arms because the Eagles are set to draft their future at the quarterback position.

So now, Sammy Sleeves wants out to start fresh with a new team that surely will view him as a long-term solution, right?

Well Sam, let’s take a look at some your options. You’ve got Denver, New York, and San Francisco that all have pretty obvious needs at quarterback.

But let’s say Bradford gets traded to one of those three. What happens when any one of those franchises goes and drafts a quarterback somewhere in the first three rounds. Is Sam going to get “hot” again, stomp his feet, and demand yet another trade?

Bradford has to understand that no team in the league is going to view him as anything more than a stopgap option, unless he proves he is something more. You can’t be in the league for six years, still be an unknown, and expect a team to make a long-term commitment to you.

Final Thoughts

I can’t get over Sam Bradford’s approach to this situation.

There’s a reason the Rams gave up on Bradford last year. There’s a reason there wasn’t much of a market for him this winter before free agency began. And there’s a reason the Eagles decided to trade up to draft their future at the position.

Sam Bradford is not, never was, nor will he be, a franchise quarterback.

He’s a bust. A massive bust. A somewhat serviceable starter on a bad team, but not a guy that will so much as lead a franchise to a .500 record, let alone a championship or anything significant in between.

If I’m the Eagles, I call Sam’s bluff.

Bradford has little trade value right now, and its made worse by the fact that the team would have to absorb a significant cap hit if he is released or traded. So for the time being, I proceed as planned.

If he wants to holdout, I’ll gladly fine him day by day until he shows up. He’s still the starter on Opening Day, and with any luck he’ll turn in a solid season, giving the Eagles a much stronger trade chip to work with next year.

This does not shock me one bit. The Eagles need to seriously consider trading Bradford before this gets ugly. Why can’t Wentz or Goff learn behind Daniels? I can see why Bradford is pissed off. Basically the Eagles are saying to Bradford that you aren’t our guy for the long haul. We need draft picks badly, so why not get a trade done with either the Broncos, Jets or 49ers, and get something for Bradford now before this spirals out of control.

because Chase Daniels has never played NFL QB.
Chase Daniels has 50 total NFL Career completions, 1 Total Career touchdown pass, and 494 total Career passing yards. It is the equivalent of saying Matt Barkley can teach Cam Newton how to play NFL QB.

I’m not mad at Sam Bradford, at 28 years old he thinks highly of himself. Rather you guys like it or not he has some pride in that little body and he is expressing it. He thinks he can be a long term answer for some team. There’s nothing wrong with that, he doesn’t want to be a lame duck Qb. So looks like Wentz better learn quick, all that sitting around for a year bs ain’t happening.

That might be how you see things, pdiddy….. But the rest of the clear-thinking world see this as Sam Bradford not having the balls to compete for the job with a rookie from a small college.

What you see as pride the world sees as lily-livered cowardliness.

Denny,

Bradford didn’t need to see the writing on the wall. He didn’t need to guess at what the Eagles intentions were. Doug Pederson said shortly after he was hired that he wanted to draft a franchise QB.

The owner has been saying all along that the team was searching for a franchise quarterback.

Sam Bradford inked his name to a contract knowing that in the minds of the Eagles front office, he was not the long-term answer at quarterback.

Screw him… I would not only call his bluff. I would sit his ass on the bench behind Chase Daniel if he did show-up to play.

For Bradford to act like this some how I believe Howie lied to him. What I mean Howie probably told him something along the lines, of hey look Sam show us you can stay healthy. Put up some numbers and then we can work out something long term with you. You know show us your a leader thus him bringing the receivers to his home to work out. I truly believe Howie mislead him and now he’s not happy. Just a bad move by Howie, people are saying hey he has to play or else. Yeah but do you really want him to influence your new quarterback coming in. You know he’s not gonna give a f$$k, he’s not going to mentor s$$t.

Oregon QB Vernon Adams declares that he’s better than Jared Goff and the second-best quarterback in the draft.
“If I’m not as good as (Goff), then I am better than him,” Adams said. “I’m not going to sit here and say he’s better than me because there’s nothing that he’s doing that I can’t do. … So, yeah.” Adams was then asked if he’s also better than Carson Wentz. “He’s the only quarterback in this draft that I can literally say, ‘He’s better than me.’ I’ve seen him at the (NFL Scouting Combine), he made every single throw. I’ve been watching him since we were both freshmen. He’s legit. He’s a legit quarterback,” Adams said. We’re higher on Adams than just about anyone other than Vernon Adams.

WHINY SAM BRADFORD IN NO POSITION TO DEMAND A TRADE

By Mark Eckel | For NJ Advance Media
on April 25, 2016 at 2:20 PM, updated April 25, 2016 at 4:55 PM

Sam Bradford is whining again, and according to various reports, he has asked, demanded, or requested that the Eagles trade him.

The quarterback is upset that the team traded up to the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft to select his successor at quarterback.

So upset that he, again according to the reports, is going to skip the rest of the team’s offseason workouts.

Is he going to give back any of the $11 million signing bonus the Eagles gave him last March?

The Eagles signed Bradford to a two-year contract worth $35 million, with $22 million guaranteed just before the start of free agency in March. Added to the $78 million he earned with the Rams and Eagles before that he will have $100 million in income.

But that two-year deal was an indication that the Eagles didn’t see him as the quarterback of the future. And now we know: He was a hedge against getting a quarterback in the draft, or just another QB for a personnel guy — Howie Roseman — who is hoarding them.

In all, $100 million isn’t bad for a guy who has never played past the last game of the regular season, has never had a winning record, has never won a playoff game and has torn his ACL twice.

Yeah, I know those last seven games in 2015 were Canton-worthy.

When Bradford and his agent asked, demanded or requested the trade, did they give the Eagles any hint as to whom the Eagles should call? Because a quick scan around the league doesn’t show a lot of teams who want him.

A couple of personnel men in the league, busy with this week’s upcoming draft, were kind enough to respond via text, as to what the Eagles could get and what team(s) would be interested.

“I have no idea on either,” one responded. “There seems to be a lot drama going on there.”

Wrote another: “It’s hard to say. It will be a struggle, especially with the salary.”

Eckel’s final mock draft

Eckel’s final mock draft

The 2016 NFL Draft begins Thursday night with the Los Angeles Rams on the clock. Here’s one final look (from me) on how the first round will play out that night.

Would the Jets want him over Ryan Fitzpatrick, whom they haven’t been able to sign for less money? Doubtful. Especially since they can get Fitzpatrick back without having to trade away a draft pick or a player.

The Denver Broncos make sense, but not when you consider they couldn’t afford Colin Kaepernick, whom they wanted.

Bradford needs to man-up and skip the voluntary stuff if need be to prove a point. But he has to show up when it becomes mandatory, and prove the Eagles wrong by having the kind of year that goes along with that $100 million he’s pocketed.

Do that and there might be a few teams before the 2017 season looking for a quarterback.

Bradford is taking a beating in the media, he has been called soft, whiny, a coward and not a leader.

You are being paid as a professional. Act like one.

I understand ur upset. But Sam should have kept his mouth shut and just used that fire to ball out. Either u get resigned by philly long term (unlikely), or get traded to a contender the next season.

So much for really wanting to be here. Who knows what could have happened if Sam won the east this year and took philly on a playoff run.

You would have no option but to sign Bradford and let the rookie learn some more and pull a Rodgers.

Get rid of him asap. Get that 4 or 5th rounder and at the end of the day u only gave up 2 picks to move up for a potiential star for the next 15-20 years

Please…

This is all so orchestrated it isn’t even funny. Both sides Sam’s agent and the Eagles knew that when he signed a 2 year deal it was an opportunity to audition for a trade in 2017. If anything they are working together to move the timeline up a year and help the Eagles recover cost of trade up. Sam’s side gets people to show the interest (if any) that they refused to show during lead up to Free agency. Sam did not get the interest around the league he thought he would get. Sam gets traded or plays out this year in a last ditch effort to prove he is an NFL starter.

I like Sam but it’s produce now or it’s career back up vs retirement decision time

His value for this year will be highest during Thursday night and possibly Friday night as teams see who is picking what talent where.

Eagles fans should root for Dallas, SF and Cleveland and or Buffalo to select QB higher than anticipated. Lynch, cook, Hackenburg. All could get overdrafted due to Goff and Wentz going as predicted. This is due more to concerns that 2nd round/1st round bubble guys may not make it back around and the most important thing…5th year option on 1st round vs 2nd round contracts

It’s not the showing up not attending voluntary camp as much as it is the trade request. Cox has not received and extension or new contract, nor is he crying about it. Sam just got paid, he signed the contract, accepted the money and he knew that the contract was only for two years. Sam has done nothing in his six years in the NFL, he is afraid of a little competition, he’s that soft?!?! That’s why he is getting blasted.
As far as the not showing up to camp, he’s apart of a team, he was supposed to be this leader and have been developing freindships with Ertz and Matthews. I guess that means nothing to Take the Money and Run Sam. Straight bitch move!

HAC, Good question, better send Vinny by his house to check in on him. He might have had a nervous breakdown..sitting in a darkroom in a corner rocking to and fro repeatedly whispering to himself Sam is the franchise QB…Book it!

He is trying to cope with the reality of the Sham Bradfraud situation as it rapidly unfolds in front of his eyes….what a nightmare…going from the franchise QB, to a mere place holder who is proving to be a whiny little bitch in the face of competition…leader in deed…LMAO!!

Bradford’s frustration. This is Sam Bradford’s 4th Head Coach & 7th year in the NFL. He has to learn the Pederson offense, his 4th, then must learn another anther offense next year in 2017 when he is definitely traded for his 5th Head Coach and 5th offense in the NFL.
or
he gets a year ahead of the curve and skips learning the Pederson offense.

This is all so laughable of Condon ,posturing and trying to save his clients last dying fiber of NFL cred..I contend this was a wink wink deal ,all along ..If anything the Eagles postured. ,mmmm maybe Sam will start and well groom the rook? This ploy was leaked by howie ,and the reaction they got was a trade demand reflex ..if this was a movie the plot would be all too predictable

Sam Bradford has a golden opportunity to EARN the right to be the long term franchise QB. If he could lead the Eagles to an NFC Championship game that would solidify his position. At the very least keep Wentz or Goff on the bench. Instead of accepting the challenge he wants to run to a situation where he does not have to earn the franchise role. How pathetically weak! Sam does not believe in himself enough to man up and accept the challenge…he’s been given everything since drafted #1 overall, he has a sense of entitlement and is spoiled.
Roseman has said Sam does not have to show up to voluntary workouts…but he will be seeing Sam soon! (mandatory camp). Roseman is gangsta!!! LMAO!

CTFU…what a croc of pure bull!!!

Since the Eagles have gotten the second round pick in the draft, I have been consistent…the Eagles have got to get rid of Sam Bradford…bottom line.

Brian Billick was on talking about how Sam Bradford is right…they were not upfront with the guy and now the organization looks shady, untrustworthy…

Remember these are the same guys who kept Riley Cooper, got rid of DJax and spread rumors…

The Eagles organization once again looks is disarray..what did they expect…how will this impact the team, the locker room environment.

The Eagles sold Sam a bogus claim that they were trying to win a Super Bowl with him…that they would do all that they could to support him in that effort…David Murray sums it up excellently in this article here:

“The real issue is that the Eagles almost certainly told Bradford that they were going to do everything in their power to win the Super Bowl over the next couple of years, the same way they insisted to McNabb that they were doing everything in their power to get over the hump. With McNabb, the issue wasn’t the notion that the Eagles were attempting to replace him. It was the reality that the Eagles used a second-round draft pick to improve the quarterback position rather than using it to improve a position that might have helped their current quarterback and his teammates win football games in the immediate future.

Now, think about it from Bradford’s perspective. Not only did the Eagles pass on the chance to add a blue-chip player who would have helped them compete for the playoffs in 2016, they decided to forfeit three other draft picks that would have had a chance to do the same. That, right there, is where the breach of faith occurred.”

Stop with the bullshit of ‘competition’..your talking about sitting the rookie for a year and Daniels is a backup…there is no real ‘competition…the Eagles are flying by the seat of their pants and their moves are embarrassing…you are not hearing Players in the Eagles lockerroom coming out against Bradford…why is that?

Kool STOP …you’ve got to be kidding me ..you’re still coming to the defense of a man already electrocuted with enough voltage. To light an entire city..the rhetoric you are quoting about competition is just a smokescreen …you know all about those ,don’t you ? They treated Sam as a pawn ,an asset ,something is better than nothing ..he’s got 22 million for not doing a damn thing ..he’s been given plenty of respect ..and now a D 1player is the big bad boogie man …kotitean ….boo!

No one needs to come out against Sam Bradford…way to be a good team mate…something Sham Bradfraud needs to learn how to do. He signed the contract, accepted the money and he knew the Eagles were going to draft a rookie QB. Pederson said they were going to do it at the Scouting Combine…now Bradfraud wants to be surprised…bullshit!
Turncoat Sam, scared of competition…BWAHAHAHAHA

Bradford could have bargained for a long term deal for more years and more g money over that time at between 14 to 18 mil per season and likely would have ensured he was here with a late round rookie holding a clip board.

He and his agent chose a deal that allows the Eagles to not care about anything after this season as far as he goes.

This is called Poetic Justice. You tried to leverage Howie with a new coach in town… lol

I remember how Jay Cutler was butthurt when he heard that the Broncos were trying to get Payton Manning. Cutler also asked to be traded, which he was… We all know how that worked out…

koolbreez, the overwhelming majority of people around the NFL see Bradford as an over-payed underachiever, and the Eagles as a team doing what they need to do to win a championship.

Why are you not hearing any players coming out in support of Bradford is the better question. In fact I see players tweeting the question “what has Bradford done to make him think he deserves something different”?

This is no way to treat a #1 overall franchise QB with a pedigree. Traded to the Eagles, which Chip’s dumb ass should have never done because the Rams was going to cut his ass. The following off season the Eagles see Sam as a place holding stop gap and plans on drafting a QB high in the first round to be the future franchise QB. Both the Rams and Eagles need to learn how to treat a QB of Sam’s caliber…this is absurd!!

“I think there is a couple of things that go along with this. If you are on a two-year contract and the No. 2 pick in the draft is behind you, then you better really play well, because you are gonna hear it from the fans if you don’t,” Condon said. “You better play well, or your teammates are going to be looking at you and wondering when the next guy is gonna step in. From that standpoint, it’s that the other players understand you are a short-term guy. You are not going to be out of there even if you play well…Sam would like to forego all that.”

Scared to death he knows he can’t play well enough to keep the job. And he scared to death of the fans booing him out of philly.

Sounds like a desperate man who sees his NFL career coming to an end.

“I completely understand from Howie’s standpoint and from the Philadelphia Eagles,” Condon said. “They signed Sam. They had no idea they were going to be able to to come up and get the No. 2 pick in the draft, and to have that be a quarterback. Even not being sure they were going to be able to sign Chase.”

That from Sam’s agent…

I would love a Sam for Wilkerson straight up (only happens if NYJ decide they can not sign wilk long term).

At this point the question is what will they be able to get in return
