Connor Barwin Believes Sam Bradford Will Be Reporting Soon

ConnorBarwin98Eagles defensive end Connor Barwin made an appearance on both 94-WIP, Comcast Sportsnet and 97.5 The Fannatic on Friday promoting an upcoming benefit concert and he talked about the conversations he has had with Sam Bradford.  Despite not taking calls from his head coach Doug Pederson or the team’s GM Howie Roseman, Sam has been talking to his teammates.  He has not only talked to Barwin, he has also had conversations with wide receiver Jordan Matthews.

“I think obviously (Bradford) didn’t see (the Eagles trading up to the No. 2 overall pick) coming and was surprised by it, but I expect him to be back in the next week or two and be the starting quarterback next year,” Barwin said in both his Friday appearances on 94WIP and Comcast Sportsnet’s Philly Sports Talk.  “He’s still on the team. He’s got to come to work, and from my conversation with him it sounded like he was coming back sooner than later.”

“I’ve had guys drafted in the first round behind me, they weren’t the number two overall pick,” Barwin said on Comcast Sportsnet. “So it is different and we have to be honest about that, but it always comes down to how you perform and that’s what I said to him. And if he plays well, everything will take care of itself.”

“I talked to [Sam] a couple of days after,” said on 97.5 the Fannatic on Friday.  “I don’t want to speak for him, I’m sure at some point you guys will talk to him. But he didn’t seem to see this coming. He was caught off guard. I think it’s going to all work out just fine.”

“Obviously, all of us see Sam as the starter for the next year or two to help kind of mentor the kid and show him the ropes,” Barwin said on 94WIP. “But Carson will be the quarterback of the future in the long term.”

Barwin was specific in that conversation to tell us that he thought Bradford would be reporting in the next couple of weeks. I put creditability in what the defensive end said because players usually come clean to their teammates, even though Sam is more “standoffish” than most players.

The Eagles will be having OTA sessions throughout the month of May.  They will have three mandatory workouts at the beginning of June.  Specifically the mandatory workouts will begin on June  7th.
