The Philadelphia Phillies lost their third straight game on Tuesday night, falling to the Marlins 7-2. Their record drops to 17-33.
On The Mound
- Vince Velasquez started and lasted just 1.1 innings, giving up two runs before exiting the game with an elbow injury.
- Mark Leiter was the first to take over for the bullpen, and was lit up for five runs while recording just two outs.
- Joely Rodriguez picked up the next five outs, allowing three hits.
- Luis Garcia worked 1.1 scoreless.
- Edubray Ramos threw two scoreless.
- Hector Neris mopped up getting some work in during the eighth.
At The Plate
- The offense put up two runs on just two hits.
- Howie Kendrick hit a solo home run in a 1-4 effort.
- Odubel Herrera drove in a run late in the game with a sacrifice.
- Aaron Altherr had the team’s only other hit.
- Ty Kelly played third and went 0-2 with a walk.
Final Thoughts
The Phillies have endured a lot of lows since the end of the 2011 season, but tonight’s lifeless effort could truly be the new low.
Vince Velasquez’s nightmare season has been capped off by an injury that could keep him out for an extended period of time.
The offense literally cannot hit major league pitching. If the Phillies are swept in this series, I’d expect some major shoes to start dropping, these disgraceful efforts can’t be allowed to keep going.
