Howie Roseman just can’t get through a weekend in the preseason without making a trade.
After trading Jordan Matthews and a third rounder for Ronald Darby two weeks ago, and dealing Matt Tobin to Seattle for a fifth-rounder, Roseman struck again on Sunday morning, trading safety Terrence Brooks to the New York Jets in exchange for cornerback Dexter McDougle.
McDougle was a 2014 third-round pick of the Jets whose career has never gotten off the ground. He tore his ACL in 2014, and was actually part of the Jets’ final cuts a year ago before being brought back to the roster.
Brooks was a late-season addition for the Eagles last year who had a number of impressive moments in the limited playing time he had received. He also had himself a strong training camp, and looked like he was ready to take the third safety job from Jaylen Watkins.
The presence of veteran Corey Graham may have made Brooks expendable, but I don’t like this deal. Brooks seemed to be developing nicely, and the team flipped him for a guy that has been largely a disappointment and may not even make the roster.
T brooks didn’t do enough to beat out a guy like Watkins who plays 2 positions as a back up as well as special teams. McDougle may just be a guy but we get a week to push Robinson at Nickle. Also we need to draft and develop young safeties next year. I wonder if Jones and Darby pan out if Douglas and Mills don’t start training at Safety.
