I’ll be on 610-WIP after the game, so I’d love to have you involved with the show. Make your comments here and we’ll talk about them on the air.
I’d like you to tell me what you thought of the offense? How did Kevin Kolb play during his time in game? He made some nice throws on the run to DeSean Jackson.
I like the drive he put together at the end of the half after the turnover. That’s when you’ve got jump on the other team to steal the momentum.
He connected with Jason Avant for a touchdown but it was called back because of the offensive linemen lining up in the backfield.
For the most part he took care of the football, but I didn’t like the throw to Jackson over the middle late in the half. He missed Avant in the end zone and it would have been a touchdown.
How bad was Michael Vick and this two interceptions? What did you think of the receivers?
Can Kevin Kolb stay healthy behind this offensive line? Will he be able to avoid getting hammered if the Eagles throw the ball a lot?
What did you think of Nate Allen who got run over by Benson but made a nice play on the double move by Ocho Cinco?
Why didn’t we hear anything from Ernie Sims? I’ve studied Sims and he’s out of position far too much.
Tell me what you think of Brandon Graham.
I thought the Eagles defense played well. Do you agree with me?
The defense is kind of soft against the run. This is what happens when you have speed guys built to play against passing defense. We are going to have a tough time in our division.
Graham hasn’t done anything worth mentioning. Where is Darryl Tapp? Yes Sims isn’t that good in this defense. We hear all about him hitting in camp but in the games, he’s no where but out of position. Nate Allen did good by have Hobbs back since he tried to jump a double move. If he’s jumping them and Asante’s jumping them and Hanson is just getting burnt, our safeties will have a long year.
Vick looked bad especially without protection.
Kolb did ok. He didn’t make as many bad throws as last week. Scrambled well to get out of trouble.
Maclin hurt again. Our receivers are fragile.
When we play well balanced teams, we will have a very tough time. Our o-line sucks and we will get pushed around against the run. Kolb will be running for his life in a lot of games this year.
And I still can’t figure out why our “Pro Bowl” LT can’t line up on the line of scrimmage. Of course he depends on the guard to get it right but he’s been in the league long enough to know when he’s out of position. He can judge by how far the D line is back from him. He stinks. Our whole O line just stinks. Kolb is going to be getting nailed.
Wait til we play that Dallas front 7
All I know is that if we lose anyone from the 1st team defense, it’ll be nothing but the same old same old. I wasn’t impressed with the front not stopping Benson. He always picked up yards. From no contact @ scrimmage or arm tackles from the secondary. I’ll take no gains over 10 yard gains with bs lucky tackles from lbs cb & safeties. Mcglynn did well but o’line is average @ best. Kolb is not gonna last long with weak protection. Mcnabb hid our weakness for the most part. I was surprised to see Kolb holding his own & scrambling. He needs quicker legs & rib protectors. Shady ain’t no Westbrook. Macho should be the 1st one to go. I’m done with him. The Rams & Lions are looking for a few mediocre bodies to throw in there. Sign him & Peters up.
G I didn’t see Bunkley bull rush anyone he pushes once and plays pattycacke. The bone crusher Simms was nowhere to be found as was Tapp & CO. O lineman, the two tackles, against competition can’t line up on the line of scrimmage. Kick coverage and returns were amatuerish. Oh, yes some brilliant person will say it’s only preseason and give them a complete pass. D and O line have no push
Was Teo Nasion even in the game. Macklin was sloppy with the ball as if he was overconfident. overall a poorly executed game by a physically over matched team.
I’m gonna put it like this — Kevin Kolb is the last thing on my list of things to worry about. The kid obviously has “it” — whatever “it” is, to be an NFL QB. He moved around the pocket well and made some plays against one of the best defenses in football. There were some plays that I wish he would have executed better….like the 20 yarder to Avant that he over threw by a couple feet, but in all honesty, it would have been a hell of a play had he completed it.
The O-Line I’m not worried about because it had 2 guys that won’t be seeing the light of day in the regular season barring injury.
Defense played particularly well, except of course for the long pass to T.O. over Joselio, but Hanson has one foot out the door anyway so who cares.
David Ackers is Eagles redzone phenom. The running attempt on 3rd and 1 was business as usual. Andy and Marty need to really step up. What really bothered me was that Dahani Jones seemed to outplay all Eagles backers.
The OLB’s were non-exisistent I though and overmatched and pushed around a lot in the 1st half.
I really don’t recall SIms or Jordan making any plays, even within 2-3 years of the line of Scrimmage.
I really think SIms is too small and not strong enough to get away or disengage from blockers
and is not a good fir for this Eagle Defense
I thought Bradley played better and better as the half went on and finished strong.. Pass rush was non-existent outsode of a couple of blitzes called by McDermott. Safeties Allen and Mickell played very well I thought (though Allen did get run over by Benson early in the game) and I thought the Hobbs,Patterson and even Hanson (besides the 1 big play) played realtively well. The Secondary definitely tackles much better than last year’s groupbut where was the D/Line.. I really didn;t see anyone puish from the middle (Bunkley or Patterson) and not much when Tapp & Teo went in on passing situations.. Overall the Front 7 Defensively I would grade about a “C” while the Secondary gets a “B” for getting a couple of INT’s, nice tackling and for the most part, solid coverage all 1st half
McDermott gets a “C” and I know it’s pre-season, but I am not impressed with his schemes up front and with the LB at all…
Kolb: fine. I saw one bad pass to DeSean. Otherwise I didn’t see anything to worry about.
Allen: one bad play. Learn from it and know what to expect the next time. Best thing was he didn’t let it get to him and came back with an otherwise solid effort.
Graham: when I was watching him he seemed to be getting good pressure. Can’t say I saw the same from Parker.
Sims: I didn’t watch him
O-line: Interior is a huge issue. Todd needs to get back and fast. I think its time to start trying out other options at RG. At the very least maybe it’ll light a fire under Stacy. 1 penalty on Peters was legit. 2nd was 100% on Gilles. Peters can’t line up properly if the guy he’s basing his position on is wrong.
Remember though this was against a legit contender and a team in its 3rd preseason game so they should have most of the kinks ironed out more or less.
This is the Andy Reid way. Lets get smaller D Linemen so we can get to the QB. But you also make yourself very predictable cause quite honestly we got OWNED tonight. There were a few plays that could have broke for multiple yards that we lucked out on. Sean Mcdermott is starting to get on my shit list. Guys will say God its only a preseason game but when I see this first team offense get in the redzone I get nervous and you cant win games with out getting touchdowns. We HAVE THE WORST (YEAH I SAID IT) WORST defense in the NFC East and anyone who says otherwise is just a jackass. Also I hear Michael Vick is the best backup QB! after tonight I hope you changed your mind.
As I said before…too many holes to plug on this team. The O=Line is straight garbage and have been ignored by this “FO” again this year. The only lineman on the team with skills was Shawn Andrews and with his injuries they could not wait for him to come back to form, but he will be “a beast” with the giants…..Watch…He never was happy with that contract the “FO” had him sign in his second year coming off injury. His brother stinks and was only signed to help with Shawn…Peters is average at best. Whatever happened to the prospects of “King Dulap”? Remember the VALUE we heard he was at that pick? Justice is below average and will never be as good as Runyan. Where was the accuracy on that errant throw to Avant by Kolb?…The way we’ve been hearing it he would never overthrow or underthrow a wide open receiver. Linebackers stink! period. Bradley never came into his own and when the time was set for him to take a step he got the injury….now, we’ll hear at the beginning of next camp ..”it takes 2 years for a player to come back to form from that injury”. What form? We still don’t know if he’s a player in this league. Simms..well…He’s the same as what we seen with the Lions. This Team will get destroyed by Greenbay in week one and we can thank this organization for messing up what was one time a great team. and yes…the D coordinator who was supposed to have took JJ’s place won a Superbowl with The New York GIANTS….our D coordinater is outmatched in this league. The defense is not designed for smash mouth in the winter against NFC east teams….the best word to describe this team is…….VANILLA
THEY’RE SWEET…..”TIMES YOURS”
I was holding out hope that Vick would be the nswer knowing what will happen when Kolb get crushed against stout defenses but now…all hope is gone after seeing Vick tonight.
Mcnabb was definately the man…Boy, we could use Bdawks leadership in the middle..can’t we? …and you know what? I’m beginning to believe Childress was more responsible for our offense success in the past than he was given credit for. The vikings are balling with a stout defensive front and offensive front. The Eagles are not on par with the elite teams are not even close. They’ll barely win “5” games this season.
Ah the fans who are only happy when they’re crying and complaining are out. We must not have had a good showing. Strange how you never appear after a good game other than to say something moronic like: Vick should start. Thanks. Your football knowledge card has been revoked.
I learned the following things about this Eagle team tonight moving forward
#1) RG – Stacey Andrews is not a legitimate starter as a NFL Lineman ans should be released immeadiately (use N Cole or MJG when Herremanm’s returns to LG this week
and even Mcglynn once J Jackson returns to C)
#2) OLB- E Sims is not a good fit for this Eagle Defense
#3) Nate Allen is a player who will be around for a long time and play at a high level
#4) B Graham is a player who needs to take over for Parker and go up against other teams #1 O/L
#5) Chad Hall is too slow and not explosive enough to make this team or play for anyone in the NFL
#6) M Fokou, Macho Harris, F Topou, all from last years draft should get cut
#7) Eagles DT’s did nothing all night (Bunkley,Patterson,Laws)
#8) Teo Neisham is too small and light to play in the middle of the defense and is this years version of C Gocong and would be better suited as a stand up OLB in a 3-4 scheme (ditto for R Sapp)
#9) There is no quality, proven depth behind TE Celek.. Did Harbor or Ingram even touch the ball or play in tonights game…(Ingram is the most disappointing player on the team this year)
#10) Still don’t know about RB C Scott since he don’t call any plays for him which makes no sense
#11) Is Mike Bell still a member of the Eagles, if so why ????
#12) J Maclin is not going to have a long career, he plays “SCARED” and won’t last long,, he runs around just waiting to get hit and worrying about it which you can’t play in the NFL with that kind of mindset..
#13) Q Demps failed to step up and show he’s a quality NFL returner, his Safety play was average..
#14) Special Teams Coach B Aprils squads are playing horrible… no lane discipline, poor tackling, and stupid penalties by many of the players.
#15) LB Corp will again be a weakness, though Clayton & White looked pretty good in 2nd half…
#16) FB L Weaver needs to pick it up and play like the NFL’s highest paid FB that he is..
#16) and finally, M Vick will never be a #1 Starter in the NFL, he just cannot read defenses quick enough to be able to make the proper reads and to throw the ball accurately.. He can run and scramble but that’s about it..Release him and pick-up QB Troy Smith or someone who can actually be groomed as a decent back-up and occasional starter if Kolb gets injured
Players who I thought looked good during the 1st Half
Offense – D-Jax,Avant,Cooper and Kolb
Defense- T Cole, S Bradley, Hobbs, Mickell,Allen,Patterson
Young players who did not impress and take advantage of their opportunities
C Hall,Harbor,C Scott, X Ingram, M Harris, J Cheney, K Dunalp,J Owens,Q Demps, T Scorrutti
Players on the Bubble who played from ok to well
E Buckley, A Howard,K Washington,K Clayton,D Coleman,Patterson, T White
Veteran Players who may be on the bubble who didn’t do much to warrant any enthisiasm
H Baskett, O Gaither, T Laws, Q Demps, K Dunlap
Coach AR and staff may look back 2-3 weeks from now and state that gettting whipped and playing poorly in week #2 of Pre-Season vs a good team on the road is the best thing that happened to them and give them the impetus to improve the coaching,schemes,formations,play-calling and upgrading some positions like the OLB,OL and TE where the depth is unproven. Wihen Herremans & Jackson return they will be much improved but they need to address Stacey Andrews for he simply is not cutting it as a starter, they also need to address back-up TE for it’s obvious Ingram is still months and months and probably until next year until they see any real return from him and then finally the OLB spot.. I just don’t think that Sims is the answer on this Defense, he’s too small and has poor coverage skills and gets caught up engaged with bigger, stronger blockers in which he cannot shed away from, just a bad fit all together he is….
1 last point before I call it a night..
after checking the box scores and the stats…
the top 5 Defensive players in tonights games as far as tackles are 5 players from the Secondary
#1) Hanson 6 tackles
#2) Mickell 5 tackles
#3) Lindley 5 Tackles
#4) Hobbs 4 Tackles
#5) D Patterson 4 Tackles
#6) Bradley 4 Tackles
#7) Cole 3 Tackles
#8) Graham 3 Tackles
#9) Jordan 3 Tackles
#10) N Allen 2 Tackles
#10) M Patterson 1 Tackle
#11) B Bunkley 1 Tackle
#12) D Tapp 1 Tackle
#13) J Parker 1 Tackle
#14) E Sims — no credited tackles
These are 1st Half States by the Starters and rotational players who saw some snaps with the 1st Unit (Teo,Tapp<Graham) , but it's not a good sign to have your 5 leading tacklers at halftime all be
from your Defesnsive Secondary….and everyone thought the strength of this D will be the front 7…
I am not so sure about this.. D Jauron will get this Secondary up to par, the D/L & LB Coaches I am not so sure about..
Good news is it was a fake game with no telling formations or plays. Thats what i gotta believe.
The bengals were 4th in D last year also..Kolb looked good ..quick..read react..just no running attack at all..just pre season baby!
Yeah Jimmy. Given the O line woes, Kolb looked pretty darn good enough. The OLIne didn’t and that was a problem for Vick and the running game. I don’t think it was the RBs’ faults. Vick on the otherhand looked atrocious by himself – I GIVE YOU PROPS SONGS FOR CALLING OUT YOURSELF THERE – YOU’RE ‘VICK SHOULD PLAY OVER KOLB BECAUSE HE CAN HANDLE PRESSURE BETTER’ THEORY IS BS! The DL looked good to me. The secondary looked fine to me – yeah, you’re going to have trouble with 85 and 81, the Bengals might just be nasty this year – and without schemes…. I’m not worried about anything at all except for the Oline, but I”m very worried there. I think that we need to draft 4 or 5 OL next year. Maybe some Lbs or something…. but we need better OL! And maybe these line penalties will curse the whole league this year, it seems like cincy got a bunch too. That would sure make the NFL look kinda dumb.
No worries everyone, I’m not going to panic just yet. If Kolb plays the entire game, his play will mask all the other glaring holes in this team. Defense, we don’t need no stinking defense. Running game, we don’t need no stinking running game. Offensive line, we don’t need no stinking offensive line. As long as “4” is behind center, this team will be Superbowl contenders. That’s what we expected out of “5”, so why should my expectations be any less for Kolb?
Bengals are a solid team as I’ve been saying and basically they got 1 big play to TO down the sideline on a perfect pass in the first hald with both teams Starters in.. Ealges lost a TD with a stupid penalty and were just starting to move the ball pretty well towards the end of the 1st Half.
When Herremans and Jackson returns this O/Line will be defintely better but I still think they need to address the RG spot (Stacey Andrews just doesn’t have the foot speed and the lateral quickness or strength to stay in front of anyone.. he’s ok when rush blocking straight ahead but that’s about it..Guards on the Eagles need to be wuick and able to move around with all the passing plays, screens and roll-outs that they do and Andrews is just not athletic enough to be effective)
I liked that tackling from the Secondary and especially Hobbs,PAtterson and Hanson all had prett ystrong games… Mickell played like he did 2 years and it appears he and N Allen have a real good chemistry playing together as a Safety tandem,,,
I am concerned at OLB though, Sims was invisable last evening and getting pushed all around the field when I was watching him…The starting DT’s didn’t show me much either…
Now I understand. Kolb looks good even though he lost, But Mcnabb looked bad even though he won.
Thanks Fellas!
Typical Eagles Fans. You guys make me look bad when u act like this. Dont get your panties in a bunch. Guys just keep in mind before you give big ups to bengals that we didnt look that bad at the half. We would of took the lead going into the 3rd but we had a stupid penalty taking away our touchdown. Our defense did a hell of a good job by holding them to a touchdown at the half. The Bengals are going to be a top offense this season. So it isnt as bad as your making it out to be. Calm down. We will be okay. However we will need better play from the o line. They arent doing a good job of pass protecting. Thank god Kolb can move. And weaver and Mccoy will have a long season if our line doesnt make better holes. Reid isnt going to run the ball if it isnt going to be affective to begin with.
To Deepthreat..
McNabb never looks good no matter what, C’Mon Man….
Paul, Your bias is affecting your judgement. One reason why we haven’t won a Superbowl in 50 years is because we chase our best players out of town.
11 years as our QB can’t really qualify as being chased out of town Deepthroat..I mean Deepthreat.
Jimmy, your derisory attempt to insult me betrays your lack of character as well as your knowledge deficit. A google search of “Deepthroat” reveals an American Hero who brought the truth to the public and literally saved our democracy. Thank You!
However the tag “Deepthreat” represents the football term for – the ability to attack defenses with a speed receiver and quarterback who can throw the long ball. ( Something we may not see very often around here anymore because Kolb admittedly doesn’t have a strong arm. He may be better suited for this offense though, the “West Coast offense” – which was originally developed for another “weak armed” quarterback, aah, some guy named Joe from San Francisco.)
Anyway you can’t deny it was exciting to see that “long bomb” TO caught. It changed the game!
In closing I’m sure no one logged on to this website to insult anyone. At least I didn’t. I am interested in some pro and con-versation about football. Perhaps we all can have fun and learn something too.
im a lil surprised by what im reading here as i scroll through comments
seems many of u think the d is horrible
i dont think that at all
this eagles defense has never been a shut u down dont let u gain any yardage d since reggie white days but what we are is an agrresive big play d which will give up an occasional big play
also even wit jj ud gain yards but not scr td’s
the 1st team d gave up 1 scr agaisnt a pretty damn good offense i dont understand what all thsi fuss is about
im more worried about the o kolb reminds me of ely manning
when the pressure came i saw 2 no look fadeaways manning esque
also run game is nil seems to be a non factor again
redzone issues are ridiculous 3qtrs now and ur 1st team o has 12 pts 4 fg’s
so lets talk about the offense please
phillywill I don’t think the D is bad, but I think they will be soft against the run. Once again, we are fast but undersized. Where the hell is Ernie Sims? Everyone was talking about how this guy flies around the field and is hitting….. yeah in camp. Against a good NFL team, he’s either out of position or getting pushed out of position. I do believe this defense will make plays and cause turnovers but at the same time, the speed and quickness of the defense will also be the reason we get pushed around. Every team in our division wants to run the ball. Our whole division has offensive line problems, but the best way to compensate for those problems is to run the ball. We won’t run. So while we are out there playing finesse football with our fast DEs and super fast LBs, they will be getting pushed to the sidelines and our safeties are going to get run over by the likes of Jacobs, Barber, Jones, Portis and whoever else they had the ball off to.
Besides being soft against the run, I still don’t have faith in the secondary just yet. We play against some of the best QBs in the league this year for the majority of the schedule and I like that Nate Allen was back there on that double move the Hobbs got beat on, but the thing is, I don’t expect the rookies to recognize that everytime it happens. And with Samuel on the other side, we are certainly prone to being beat by double moves. Now Palmer took the pass deep but maybe another QB throws a dart instead so the safety can’t make a play and then you have Miles Austin in the open field with Allen the only back to make the tackle. Guess who’s going to win that one.
im jus saying this is the same d we have had the last 10 11 yrs under reid
y do you expect him to smarten up
and as far as this style i can easily see this be 1 of AR’s best defenses ever
if you are saying we need to force a 3 and out to get the ball back at the end of the game i rarely remember this d being able to do that anyway
cause havoc create to’s and pressure hold teams to fg’s 40% of the time they r in redzone i can see that
but your right we dont have a ravens jets steelers type smash mouth d
but we never did
that would be like saying to andy to get a great rb and givem the ball 25 30 times again u wont see this this is just not his style
