The linebacker and defensive ends worked out yesterday in Indianapolis and I saw a guy I’d like the Eagles to target.
First of all, the Eagles aren’t going to do much in the area of linebackers and defensive ends in this draft. But there’s a young man who could play defensive end or tight end that I would like them to look at closely.
His name is Connor Barwin of Cincinnati. He’s 6’4” 256 and a ran a 4.66 in the forty yard dash. A couple of years ago he caught 56 passes as a tight end. Last year he was moved to defensive end and he got 11 sacks.
He is a big tough football player and you can never get enough of them. Barwin will probably be around in the second round for the Birds.
He should be brought in as a tight end and he would make a big difference on short yardage as a blocker plus you know he would contribute immediately on the special teams.
Barwin would make the Birds bigger and tougher. A tight end who could play defensive end is much tougher than any tight end the Eagles have had in a while. You would have a problem asking him to block a defensive end.
I saw defensive ends treat the Eagles tight ends like girls when they tried to block them. You can run the ball outside if you don’t have a tight end who can block. Ask Brian Westbrook.
He’s the kind of player that head coach Bill Belichick has selected in New England. He’s a versatile player who will help you as a target in the red zone.
