The Eagles are playing games with Tra Thomas and probably asking him to take a pay cut.
They’re obviously thinking they have the option of moving guard, Todd Herremans outside to left tackle.
Les Bowen of Philly.com gets into it in his article today on Philly.com.
Thomas wants to stay here but he wants his money as well. "I would love for the Eagles to step up to the plate to get it done. If not, I'm ready to move on. It's weird, but it's also exciting. I haven't been in this position for a long time. For 11 years, I've always known what would take place next year."
The Eagles are said to be more than $30 million dollars underneath the salary cap.
Check out this paragraph in Bowen’s article and you can see that Thomas has a warrior’s mentality and he’s preparing to be ready to play football for somebody.
“Thomas, who started all 16 regular-season games and all three playoff contests this past season, said he weighs between 315 and 318 pounds, about 30 pounds under what he weighed when he was younger. His workout yesterday involved running, lifting and an hour of mixed-martial arts. Asked if he thought he had several productive seasons left, Thomas said: "Actually, I know I do. I train harder now than when I was 24. I'm more grounded, I'm more focused. I take the game more seriously . . . an offensive lineman, as long as you take care of your body and protect your knees, you can play a long time. Lots of people have done it."
Why are they playing games with him? If they don’t want him then they should just tell him so.
Eagles president Joe Banner is low-balling Thomas even though he knows the offensive tackle market is scarce which makes the big fella more valuable.
Banner said as much in Indianapolis, "There's not any position [in free agency] where the shortage of players vs. the demand is more out of whack" than at offensive tackle.”
