Eagles trim down roster, trade for a guard

The Philadelphia Eagles are like everyone else in the NFL and have to get down to the 53-man roster limit. The made some moves this afternoon, and I don’t think there were any surprises.

The team waived RB Martell Mallett, CB David Pender, CB Geoff Pope, DT Boo Robinson, S Anthony Scirrotto, RB J.J. Arrington, WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Nate Lawrie, and OT Jeraill McCuller.

Because the cut Arrington, they’ll get a 2012 sixth-round pick from Denver, because it looks like Joe Mays will make their team.

The team also traded for Arizona Cardinals guard Reggie Wells for a sixth-round pick. Wells also has some experience at center, but regardless, they need some interior o-line depth.

A very good pick-up, for an 8-year Veteran who has started over 75 games in the NFL and is very versatile, he’s played mostly LG the last couple of years and also has about a dozen starts at LT & RT, He’s 6’4″ 315 lbs and has good feet and is very nimble for a big guy who is a very good pass prtoector and very good out in space on Screens, Pulling Guard plays
The Cardinals Signed big-name G Alan Faneca this Spring which made Wells expendable for the Cardinals hwo has not missed a single game in the last 5 years..
I expect Wells to compete for the RG starting spot with N Cole & MJG within the next 2 weeks and this also tells me that they will go ahead and release Stacey Andrews (which many will be happy about)
Say one thing about Roseman, this guy doesn’t appear happy with the status quo. there will be another move or 2 by the weekend as the Eagles Continue to solidify their roster… A good move here

Cowboys trade WR Patrick Crayton to the San Diego Chargers for a 7th Rd Drafat choice…
(sounds like a good deal for the Charlgers who most likley won’t have WR V Jackson returning to the
field anytime soon and was a real area of need for them..)
Steelers cut TE’s E Bright who was on Eagles last season for a while and S McHugh …
49ers Released SPecail Teamer Ace/RB/WR/QB Michael Robinson (a Penn State Grad), wonder is he would be worth bringing in…

Who Cares 5-11 season

I wonder what excuse will they have for this disappointing season..Let me take a shot at it.

“We’re a young team”…or “Kolb did some good things and there’s some throws he wish he had back”….or “I have to put our players in better positions”….or “We’ll look at the tape and next year come out swinging”..or “our screen game is our running game”….or…”I’m not going there”….Did I forget any?

Oh

“TIMES YOURS”

Pannel Egboh looked good against back-ups I know, but I still can’t help thinking with legitimate DE size , a little speed and youth on his side he would have helped the Eagles more than Abiamiri or Te’o Nesheim.

Hahahaha @ Songs
I think we will do better than 5-11 more like 7-9
I still think we will beat the packers in the opener
but not much after that.

Vricchini..it’s amazing how the optimism has changed since the ending of last season….First we were told how this new team can expect to be better by subtraction of Mcnabb….now everyone is talking out of the other sde of their ass stating a 7-9 season as an option. I thought the team would be in a position to compete for a Superbowl every year. Have something changed to allow the fan base to accept a losing season?

Regarding the cut down to 53-man roster (Andrews traded to Seattle for 2011 draft pick and talk is Washington gets cut), can you believe that the Eagles kept 10 of their drafted rookies, plus Jorrick and Howard, and Sapp is on IR??!!! Amazing numbers for a draft class. This guy Roseman does not let grass grow under his feet. So glad Andrews is gone, but preferred Washington over Baskett. Harris & Demps gone tells you that if someone’s not making steady progress anymore, you’re not going to be kept around.

Still 1 or 2 more Deals to be made

10 along the O/Line is 1 too many
10 along the D/Line is 1 too many
7 At the LB positions is 1 too many
only 3 at Safety and 5 WR seem a little light and probably 1 too short…
I sense some more activity.. I would not be surprised to hear if either one of following are traded
LB O Gaither, DE J Parker, or CB J Hanson are dealt to team in need for some draft picks and I think the Eagles will pick-up a Safety (you really need to have 4 Safety’s on the Roster)

Roseman said they’ll probably pick up another safety, so apparently they have their eye on someone since they released Demps and Macho. When/if Gillies gets resigned to bring roster back up to 53, someone would obviously have to go if they bring in a safety too .
I don’t see Parker going unless it’s in a trade to get an experienced safety, otherwise not so sure Tapp would remain. Parker has always been healthy and had best year last year.
For quite a number of years when JJ was running the D, the team carried 10 DL’s (and 10 OL’s) so this is not out of ordinary. I think they’re also covering themselves in case a def lineman or LB goes down.
Personally hoping they’re done taking/drafting people with recent history of injury. They also need OL’s who can protect Kolb, for if he’s hurt, they’re in big trouble!

They’re some experienced Safeties out there…
G Alexander from th Jaguars
DeJaun Morgan from KC Chiefs (who the Eagles liked a lot out of NC State a few years back)
A Alflava from the Bears (was a Starter last season)

I do like back-up TE Spencer Havner who is a 2 year player and was cut by the Packers who have a lot of Depth at TE- He’s 6’3 255lbs and more of a blocking tpye but still has good hands and may be worth checking out..
