I don't know what was said during the negotiations but it angered Brian Dawkins. He told a friend of mine that he wanted to test the waters.
This morning I started hearing things at the Eagles Nova Care complex like, "Dawk doesn't have anything left. He's done".
Today I learned that it was Dawk who blew the coverage on the first touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald in the NFC Championship game. How did all of that come up?
A five-year deal for $17.5 million dollars and the Eagles say we have too much money to spend. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
I'm wondering why the Bird didn't sign Dawkins or even put out the $48 million dollars in four years to get Albert Haynesworth.
Dawkins had been upset by something which was said during the negotiations which set his hair on fire. He told somebody "I'm going to test the free agent waters" after talking to his agent about their negotiations with the Eagles.
He wasn't just going out to find an offer number to bring back to the Eagles, he was looking for another team to sign him and he found it in Denver.
Rather than let Dawkins walk, they could have signed both Dawkins and Haynesworth with the money up under the cap.
Even if they had let Dawkins walk, why not go after Haynesworth, a guy who is going to make an impact regardless of whether the Eagles blitz or not.
If you can't improve the offense right away, then why not improve the defense immediately when you've got all of that money.
I guess we can put the money in a pile and design it like it's a Lombardi Trophy.
