Michael Vick Answers All The Questions About Being The Starter

For another game Michael Vick showed that he can make the reads of the coverages, then make the decision of which receiver to get the ball to, then put the ball on the money.  For another week he got the job done under severe harassment and for the second week in a row, he led the Eagles to victory.

Vick is playing on an amazing level that Andy Reid was dreaming of when he signed him.  He’s played in two and a half games and each time, his quarterback rating has been over 100 each time he has played.

Reid’s plan to get Vick on the field has been a priority since he hired him.  That’s the only way you can explain the way he carved out ways and plays to use as a way to get Vick on the field since he’s been here.

Notice with Kevin Kolb backing up, Reid doesn’t put Kolb in the game for Vick.  I think Vick’s playing great football.  Notice how calm he is in the pocket, despite playing behind a garbage offensive line.

I am not as impressed with this football team.  This is not a great football team.  How many times do I have to explain why Ernie Sims isn’t a good linebacker?

Remember how spooked Kolb was behind this same line.  Kolb never did the job since he took over for McNabb and there’s no way in the world that Reid didn’t see that.  He saw Kolb lose his confidence and the confidence of his teammates because of his practices, preseason games and first half of the season’s first game.

Vick’s first touchdown throw was a beauty.  He hit DeSean Jackson on a deep corner route, right by the sideline.  Vick put the ball on the money and Jackson pulled it in.  Vick’s deep throws have been outstanding.

There’s no way in the world Kolb could make those downfield throws that Vick has been making.  His lack of a terrific deep arm had taken away some Jackson and Jeremy Maclin’s strengths.  Anybody could see it in the preseason.

Vick hooked up with Jeremy Maclin at the end of the second quarter with a beauty of a throw.  Vick scanned the field then bought time with his legs by rolling to his right.  With his time running out in the pocket, he hit Maclin in the endzone for a big touchdown before the half.

In the second half, we got another glimpse of the way Vick has grown as a quarterback.  The lefthander dropped in the pocket and looked off former Eagles safety Sean Considine.  Considine took a couple of steps toward the middle of the field in Cover 2 or double zone coverage and that’s all the room that Vick needed.

Vick put the ball on the money on the sideline in the area in between the cornerback and the safety.  Maclin caught the ball in stride, avoided Considine he tried to grab his ankles, and took it the distance for a touchdown.

Mr. Vick capped things off when he pulled the ball down and turned on his turbos.  Vick caught the Jaguars in a man-to=man coverage with their backs turned to him.  He took off on a scramble that looked like taking candy from a baby.  Right now Michael Vick is playing like he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Reid doesn’t need to make any apologies for playing Michael Vick.

Anyone who watched that game and still thinks that Reid somehow made a bad decision would have to be truly crazy. I had a lot of fun watching that game today.

More people remain angry at Vick than at Donte Stallworth.

The man went to jail for two years, lost a fortune, humbled himself to get back in the league, studied hard, got into tip-top shape and played second fiddle to a high-school quarterback.

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” I guess there are a lot of perfect people out there.

More than a few people whose football knowledge I respect have come up with some pretty crazy theories.

I love RDiddy and have for a long time, but he theorizes that Andy and the Front Office saw that the NFC East was weak, so abruptly decided to go with Vick on Monday night, last week (despite all the preparation made for Kolb to take over).

Didinger had previously gone on record as a staunch Kolb supporter. He was fairly certain that Kolb would have a successful season. Now, he can’t even fathom the notion that Kolb could be a bust. He’d rather come up with conspiracy theories.

There were two major components to Vick taking the starting job:

1. Kolb’s complete regression and failure; and
2. Vick’s dramatic and obvious growth.

I don’t think either bore more weight than the other.

Vick is playing very good right now. He is letting his play do all the talking right now. Every game that goes by he is making the critics quieter. Keep it up 7 and remember no one can do what you do.

I know “Jaws” is pissed right now!!!

He was gawking about Mcnabb’s accuracy and claimed Kolb would be perfect for the offense being a coach’s kid…..

Now, he’s having nightmares and flashbacks of Cunningham taking his job with the promotion of Vick over Kolb…and MUST watch this with the number “7” on Vick’s chest.

How sweet….and I’m willing to wager that more Eagles number “7” jerseys sell this year than jersies sold all the years Jaworski played in the league .

Vick is making a lot of critics eat crow…”PRICELESS”

so songs, where then does this put your season prediction at? I’m not messing with you or saying that in any nasty way. I’m just curious if your outlook for the season has drastically changed, now that we see how this year’s team is starting to take shape?

Songs, you’re right again. Jaws hates both McNabb and Vick and he fell in love with Kolb.

He spewed all that read-defenses-and-get-the-ball-out-quicker, hit-receivers-in-stride, yards-after-the-catch crap. He obviously viewed Kolb through rose-colored glasses. Then things changed.

Kolb got smacked around against Cincinnati (during the pre-season), and he was suddenly hitting the defense in stride, producing yards after the catch. He lost his perfect form and forgot how to plant his feet. It’s obvious that Kolb is scared. He undoubtedly is happy that Vick is playing.

That’s why I have so much admiration for McNabb. He stood tall in the pocket on a broken ankle and threw 3 TDs. He played through a sports hernia while his coach dialed up pass after pass. That’s fearlessness!!!

Kolb would probably be great in a touch football league, but in the NFL, your heart better pump nitro.

Schill..if Kolb was the quarterback of this same team I would stay with the prediction of 5-11 or worse but this team is clearly better with Michael Vick..If Mcnabb would not have been traded I would have predicted no less than a 10-6 season, so I’m predicting 11-5 and would not be surprised if we take 12 wins ths year.

If Vick gets hurt and Kolb’s inserted……….back to the 5-11…don’t forget that I predicted a failure of a season based solely on Kolb being the bum we all seen in game one, and I gave him a two game grace period. The good Lord answers prayers for I prayed earnestly for Kevin Kolb to be on the sideline with a clipboard and sun viser while the 3 time pro bowler Vick leads the team.

Now if only I can make a deal with the Eagles wardrobe guy to sew Velcro on the seat of Kolbs pants for the end of the bench….Well that might be over the top…one prayer answered is good enough.

11-5

Schill – its not just songs – where are all the AR haters – team is sitting in first place – still early for sure – but if they were 1-2 or 0-3 the crowd would be screaming for Ried’s head on a spit – the man took a major gamble on Vick – so Ried borught in both Kolb and Vick –

How does that draft of Trevor Laws look now – how about Tapp? That 2nd rounder we got for McNabb (where are all the Mike Shanahan is a super bowl winning coach who runs the ball (wait – I have to get cute, pound the pill) but ooop lost to St Louis today.

Yeah, its a long season – but I can see us at the bye week at at least 4-2 with Atlanta at home – I think a great shot at 5-1 – do San Fran and Washington look scary – the titans can be hot or cold….

I’ll be the first to admit that I was against Vick because I am a pet owner, dogs and cats. Listenting to him lately speaking about his past and showing humility and respect of his teammates has changes my
opinion. I’m glad they put in Wells because Cole was being mauled by the pot roast. Vick’s presence in the backfield opens up the running game by freezing the defense with his threat to run. I know that they have only played one winning team, but for the first time Vick has energized his teammates and the fans, me included, despite rump roast Reid’s pitiful challenge record.

Someone from the Eagles website reads this website because they changed Nick Coles weight from 350 to 339. They never change player weights. NcNaab was always 240 for all his time with the Eagles.
What a bunch of sensitive fantasy football wimps.

I mean anybody with eyes through the end of the pre-season, the early goings this season didn’t have any questions about Vick. I guarantee that Eskin, Rhea Hughes and the rest of the “Boo Bird” Philly media contingent are waiting around back with their metaphorical bats and pipes for Vick to have a bad game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an maligned as badly as Vick was after the Green Bay game. There was one story that tried paint Vick as some Machiavellian like character that didn’t run in for the winning score at the end to make Kolb look bad. On CBS Rhea Hughes basically labeled Vick inept as a QB and incapable of running the offense even though it was clear to anyone that wasn’t legally blind that he was passing as well as running in the Green Bay game.

For the handful of people that watched the games with unbiased eyes there weren’t any questions that had to be answered it was just a question about whether Andy Reid would wait until the season was lost before finally putting Vick in.

The controversy is that with Reid going back forth it’s clear he’s been lying about something. Personally, I don’t think he believes Kolb is a franchise QB, but he’s not going to say that and either poison the guy against him or force his trade value to plummet. Also, I think Roseman, Banner and Lurie want to keep Kolb at any cost where Reid is willing to let him go.

I give him credit for putting Vick in, its was a great move BUT how come when I and songs were on here killing Kolb all you guys were saying that its only 1 game and we have to give him a season before we judge but now you all want to brag about LAws and Tapp? Lets see how they play for the season before we put them in Canton. BTW can anyone explain to me WHY graham is playing tackle…AT ALL? I dont get why this team has to be cure and try to put a guy in a positoim he never played?

ozzman, graham plays DT on passing situations, allows for more pass rushers to be on the field. pretty common actually. Have to admit, Songs and Phillywill, did make some accurate predictions when it comes to Vick, guy is playing lights out. Go birds.

KTDawk i understand that and I dont have a problem with it. I just would rather see Tapp or Parker do it as they are veterans . I would like the rookie to stay on the end where he used to playing and let him get some NFL experience before moving him around. Actually I would ike to see him standing up as the Joker if anything.

About Graham at DT – ask yourself this, if you were an OG, and you’re playing a game while getting used to blocking Bunkley and Patterson, maybe with some Laws and Dixon mixed in. Then they put Graham in front of you, a rookie with a high motor and a talent/athleticism. Are you then comfortable or put on edge/pressured to adjust your game? I bet the OGs would rather they just stick with DTs in front of them. Darren Howard had a bunch of sacks from the DT position, and he was a DE. It’s not something that only the Eagles do by any means, and it’s far from a dumb idea. If guards are constantly having to adjust their technique for huge, power guys, to smaller, quicker guys, back and forth, that puts pressure on the opposing interior OL.

September 27, 2010 9:30 am

I like the versatility and rotation of the D/Line, both Graham,Tapp lined up inside at DT give the opposing blockers different looks and moves as Schiller explains perfectly above..
The idea is to have your best pass rushers on the field as much as possible and if Tapp & Laws play as they did yesterday, the entire Defense will be better. Graham is getting great experience being moved around which pay off big-time as the Season progresses..

Ozzman – I am an ‘enjoy the moment’ fan. Relax, have fun and enjoy the season . Laws and Tapp don’t have to go to the HOF (I was there last weekend – cool place), they just have to play strong solid football – like they did Sunday –

The team is getting better each week, still would like to see the Special teams tighten it up – is it the players or the scheme – –

September 27, 2010 10:11 am

Oh and on Kolb – I still think he is going to be a great NFL QB – AND Vick plays with some reckless abandon – we as a team NEED Kolb to be great. I want every week the coaches to have to sit around and talk about how well each QB is performing. Its not a Kolb vs Vick vs McNabb situation – its a lets win situation, but you can’t bash Kolb – we may very likely need him by the end of the year and he needs to be ready to go – If you followed any of my postings, I always posted that I thought the best way for Kolb to take over for McNabb would have been post injury – less pressure (not that I wish an injury on anyone) Kolb will be fine.

Becuase Ozzman asked me a question re Kolb – to the best of my knowledge – Vick is fine – and to the best of my very extensive football knowledge – it is extremely important to have two QBs that can lead the team – you see that blitz where Vick got hammered in the back – we are that far away from having Kolb back in there – some of ARs best season were when McNabb got hurt and he had the Detmer/Feeley QB combo and Garcia lead the teams into the playoffs – you have to look at the team as a whole (you know – only as strong as the weakest link etc. etc.)

I can never understand why people bash a player on a team they support – the player is an Eagle – why bask him – saying Vick should be the starter – sounds fine to me – Kolb should be a starter in touch football – funny maybe, but, Vick takes one more blind side hit or rolls an ankle (knockin on wood here) Kolb is back in there – say it happens in Philly – when Kolb runs onto the field – is it to cheers or a groan – is the crowd going to pick him up, or boo him –

you are just stupid – clearly you must have missed all the McNabb conversation – or how Asante can’t tackle – yeah – go back and look at some posts wanting to get rid of him – Justice would be gone, Laws would be gone if fan posts had any influence on the selection – how about our pro bowl left tackle, don’t think he had any penalties yesturday – Nick Cole was a stellar guard last year – you read the comments in the post earlier this week when it said he may not play becuase of knee swelling, how about the story on the defense posted today busting on Patterson and Bunkley for not getting enough pass rush.. AFTER the D held the jags to 3 points … so – you again need to re-think your posts – I’ll tell you fraud willy, its not about being good or bad – its about being an EAGLE. Kolb is an EAGLE.

So again – Vick gets hurt in a game in Philly – does the crowd come to his side and pick him up, or boo and put him down –

You’re only as good as your last performance in this league – and we’re only one play away from the next player injury. When players get benches while healthy, it’s because the other guy is playing better. I’m wondering when Patterson is going to be replaced more often by Laws or even Dixon. This weekend we learn more about our team; most encouraging to me is that this young team is starting to build some confidence, and are growing together. We’ll need it when we get to the latter portion of our schedule, some tough games ahead. Let’s take the next step this weekend at the Linc, I’ll be there losing my voice as usual!
