A couple of weeks ago, I spoke at an event for the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey and it was on the same Tuesday evening in which Andy Reid installed Michael Vick as the Eagles top quarterback. The top performing three running backs were honored during the event.
Quarterback Ian MacCorkle of Pittman is one of the best quarterback in South Jersey. MacCorkle threw for three touchdowns while completing 12 of 15 passes for 225 yards in the third game of the season.
Running back Karl Johnston of Williamstown was an awardee but we don’t have his numbers.
Sean Bell of Bishop Eustace Prep put up some astounding numbers in the first week of the season. He ran for 168 yards on 38 carries. The running back took a kickoff back 80 yards for another score.
The top three offensive and defensive linemen of the first week were also honored during the event.
Those players were Randy Wick of Triton Regional, Brandon Blackiston of Gloucester High and Troy Eubanks of Cumberland Regional.
Once we finished with the award winners for the first week, we honored the award winners of week two.
Running back Chris Davis of Haddonfield had only nine rushing attempts in week two, but he used them to run for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Davis also contributed six tackles, while picking off one pass and running it back for a touchdown.
Quarterback Rondell Gilmore of Kingsway High School threw the ball twenty times and completed ten of them. He also ran for 109 yards on eleven attempts for two touchdowns.
Wide receiver and defensive back Malcolm Chase of Penns Grove is one of the fastest players in the area. He picked off a pass in the second week of the season and ran it back 85 yards for a touchdown.
Woodbury defensive lineman Michael Page forced a fumble, made 14 solo-tackles in the second week of the season.
Pittman offensive lineman Bill Brown is a dominant blocker, but he does even more for his football team. He contributed six tackles in the second week of action.
There were two special team award winners for week two of the season.
Kicker Clint Herman of Pennsville put two kickoffs inside the five yard line. He has nailed 49 of 51 PAT’s during his time with the team.
West Deptford punter Ben Cornelius had three touch backs during the season’s second week. He knows how to boom that ball and get air under it.
