For NLDS, Kendrick out, Bastardo in

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com has tweeted the Philadelphia Phillies NLDS roster and there is a surprise or two. Here is what Zolecki told us on everyone’s favorite micro blog:

“Phillies officially announced roster. It’s as it’s written on the blog: Dobbs, Brown, Bastardo IN. Kendrick, Baez, Herndon OUT,” he tweets.

I will say that if my office was a little bigger, I’d be doing jumping jacks right now. I don’t think I could have handled seeing Danys Baez or David Herndon out there in one of those “I’m going to chew my fingers off if they don’t get out of this situation” playoff moments. If they were on the roster, I’d have probably found out how good or bad my health insurance coverage really is. We don’t need that.

But no Kyle Kendrick? We’ve all made our jokes, but the bottom line is that he did a pretty admirable job over the course of the season for someone who probably should have been in Triple-A. He was thrust into a starting role because of injuries and he held up okay. Sure, he wasn’t going to start a single postseason game, so maybe they felt like he just couldn’t pitch out of the bullpen. That’s possible, look at JA Happ from last year. Great as a starter, awful out of the bullpen in the playoffs.

SIDE NOTE: I just saw on Twitter where someone was complaining about Jello. Someone commented that it’s the Kyle Kendrick of dessert foods. That’s pretty funny.

Back to the roster. Greg Dobbs? Really? Every team needs someone who can strike out in a pinch situation, I guess. Maybe they thought they were thin in flyouts to third base with RISP. You watch, now that I’m ragging on him, he’ll have a couple key hits.

Remember: Enjoy the playoffs. Don’t get spoiled and forget what most of the 1980’s, 1990’s and this decade were like.

Bottom line is they need left-hand pitchers in the bullpen (Romero/Bastardo) to face the big Left-Handed Hitters in Votto & Jay Bruce in that middle of that Reds line-up.
I was hoping P Worley would make it for middle relief/rain delay/injuriy to give some innings
