The Eagles fans who went to the Eagles-Redskins game on Sunday should be given the standing ovation which they gave Donovan McNabb. With the nation looking in, Eagles fans showed their best side.
In a classy move, they stood and cheered a former player, Donovan McNabb, not because he brought a Super Bowl title to the city, but because he did his best to bring one here.
McNabb wrote about his appreciation of the ovation on his Yardbarker.com blog.
“I hope that everyone has an opportunity in their lifetime to experience what I did Sunday because words can hardly describe it.
It’s no secret I went home again….and was greeted with an ovation that was overwhelming. Philadelphia – you gave me chills during that pregame introduction. I know many people didn’t know what to expect but I knew there were many fans I met over my 11 seasons who expressed nothing but positive feelings towards me. Previously, they may have been considered the silent majority but Sunday they made their feeling heard – loudly. I sincerely appreciate that support.
I must also thank my Redskins’ teammates. While I tried to make this seem like a normal week against an NFC East opponent, I must admit, it was anything but normal. We stepped it up on offense, defense and special teams, and pulled out a victory even though I didn’t play my best game.
I am very proud of all my friends, both old and new!”
Peter King of Sports Illustrated gave Eagles fans their proper due. “I think the Eagles fans did one of the classiest things I’ve seen in that city in – well, in forever – when they heartily cheered Donovan McNabb.”
McNabb isn’t perfect as a quarterback or a perfect person, but tell me who is. Eagles fans did the right thing.
Yes G. I was there and you FINALLY felt proud as a Philadelphia fan that we once did what was appropriate for the situation. It was a good scene. And it was exactly how it should have been, cheered him when he was introduced and booed him for the rest of the game and cheered loudly when he made a mistake or was tackled.

ready to play for it was very obvious from the 1st play that the Eagles were not ready to play and that

I also think that if Coach AR doesn’t give away 4 points just before halftime and RB MCCoy doesn’t fumble at the 2 yd line, or if J Avant makes a great catch in the end zone that Kolb still could have led the Eagles to Victory…
My bigger point is that the Eagles were, in all 3 phases of the game, not ready to play in the 1st quarter to play… and with this team, they are not good enough to overcome taking a quarter or a half off. I blame Coach AR and his Staff for this.
I also beleive the Eagles didn’t think the Redksins O/Line and RB’s would be as physical as they were and were just completely manhandled at the point of attack.
I was surprised at the ovation. What I leaned is that the haters are just a loud minority.

The defenders are also supposed to bat it down and the play happens in the blink of an eye. Therefore, Avant should have done as instructed, try to bat it towards Celek.

I think Avant was surprised that the ball hit is hands. It looked like one of those things where everyone is jumping around you and you don’t expect it to hit you hands because you can barely see. Anyhow, I’m not going to focus on him dropping a passes to decide the game because the Redskins dropped some INTS that would have decided the game.

Now on offense, I believe J Peters had 2 holding Penalties, 1 for Herremans, and maybe 2for Jean-Gilles.. Celek still needs a lot of work on his blocking, he has a hard time maintaing a bloc on a CB let alone a LB ..ooh and then there’s RB M Bell and his 12 carries for 20 yards this season
which is a 1.7 yard per carry average… If you take out his long run of the season which is 9 yards,
then M Bell has 11 yards on his other 11 carries … You have got to be kidding me…

It only looked like he tossed it away because you were watching the slow motion replay. Anything in slow motion looks unusual. In slow mo you saw the recoil of his hands after the ball forced them backwards. Watch it at full speed and you’ll see plain and simply that the ball just bounced out of his hands while he was falling backwards and completely lacking control of both his body and his hands.
And Hugh Douglas is about as well versed in the intricacies of football as Sarah Palin (thanks for the reference Paul). He may have been a good pass rusher, but I feel dumber every time I hear him try to talk X’s and O’s.
Funny, when McNabb played here i didnt hear all these excuses or rationality about football. Nobody talked about how in the tampa game Blaine Bishop was our starting strong safety, or Levan Kirkland lead a STELLAR linebacking core with Barry Gardner and Matt Mccoy rounding out the group. Oh, but he choked in the Super Bowl, but nobody EVER ask WTF was MATT WARE who played about 4 plays all year doing in the game period, let alone trying to man up Deon Branch who was the Super Bowl MVP!!!!!..None of that seems to come up, yet, POOR OLD KEVIN KOLB! If there is a strike next season (which I think there is a 80% chance of happening) then the Eagles Front Office should cut the chord after this season and clean house with the entire Coaching staff
and get a new HC with a new philosophy and rebuild this team from the ground up with more physical type of “D” and more emphasis on a strong commitment..

Okay here is the scenario, St. George HS, was to play Lawrence Academy HS, but the headmaster and coach of St. George both decided to forfeit the game out of safety for their players because of the size desparity.
Lawrence Academy had an offensive line avg of 330 lds, and that is reflective of their entire team, bigger, stronger more skilled. Lawrence scored +40 points per game in every 2009 game except two, and on pace to repeat that feat. St. Geogre team avg maybe 200+ for their biggest men. This is the independent scholl league in Mass/RI area.
The question is would you as head coach let your players play the game where you biggest man is about the size of the other teams running back, or would you foreit like St. Geogre and other teams in the league? Sound off Bird Nation. As always LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

The placement of the ball was changed and they saw London Fletcher of the Skins move it with his foot while the refs were waiting for the replay decision
The crew also screwed them on the procedure used to restart the clock
So Reid didn’t screw up the refs did
And on the play for the Skins 2nd TD there was a screw up on the players that were supposed to be on the field –that was what Bradley was trying to correct
After those 2 scores the Eagles held the Skins to a FG for the rest of the game
On TD pass to Cooley,
Mickell was coming in on a SAfety Blitz and Bradley was still out barking formations and was a
step or 2 late off the snap of the ball, Bottom line, is that the Eagles D cannot allow these “free releases”
to any of these athletic TE’s that they face… My question would be why wouldn’t OLB E Sims to the DE maybe give a “chuck” on Cooley to slow up his progres when you have the Defensive Call that your MLB is going to be covering or if yuo have the call of the Bradley covering him, then whey not line Bradley up right over Cooley do he is with him from the get go…. Poor Defensive play all the way around
As far as blaming the Refs for the spot/time starting back up, I am not buying it, they had 4-5 minutes while the refs where checking with the upstairs video booth to call and get a play in with the proper personnel whether it’s 4th and 2 inches or 4th and 1 yard.. Poor game/play management by AR/MM

They were not ready to play from the 1st play from scrimmage and were manhandled at the point of attack..This Eagle team lacks the physical toughness to be able to compete against the average to good teams… They can beat up on Detroit/Jacksonville, but this 2010 Eagles line on scrimmage on both sides of the ball will get manhandled by most of their opponents from here on out as they start playing better teams

He his however, correct, that the refs handling of the situation THIS TIME, did screw Reid. THAT SAID, a good coach should be able to handle that situation – ideally he’d adjust. But for the refs to change up their procedure from the norm, that’s a unique case.
****** If Reid had no history/reputation of being a bad clock manager (which he does, and he deserves), the fans/media would be reacting to this differently. If this happened to Sean Payton or Bill Belichek for example, nobody would be calling the coach stupid.
This incident is not about what Reid has or hasn’t done in the past. Those who burn reid for this are seeing it as part of a pattern, which is understandable, BUT, some of those same people are completely ignoring or discounting the facts of the situation – that the refs behaved out of the norm and factored heavily into the situation.
