Vick Not Concerned About NY Rush, Patterson’s Learning From Samuel

The Eagles just finished their Friday workout in preparation for Sunday night’s battle with the Giants.  When practice was over and everybody had gone inside, I stood there watching as Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson stayed out for some extra work.

As if they haven’t already been lethal enough, here you have these two guys who are as hot as anybody in the league, putting in some extra work, so that they’re as sharp as possible against New York.  That can’t be good news for Giants head coach Tom Coughlin who said his stomach was bothered as he watched the Eagles dismantle the Skins defense.

This will be the toughest pass rush the Birds have faced all season, but Vick isn’t concerned that New York has knocked five quarterbacks out of games this year.  He said he’s used to players trying to knock him out of games because they’ve been trying to knock him out of games throughout his career, plus the team has confidence that Kevin Kolb will step in there and do the job if he gets hurt.

They expect adjustments from the Giants, so they’ll be ready to counter whatever New York does defensively.

I was amused by Asante Samuel’s conversation concerning Dimitri Patterson.  Seems like the young cornerback has been doing his homework studying the veteran cornerback.  Everybody knows that Samuel reads pass routes better than any corner in the league, so Patterson has been smart enough to pick Samuel’s brain and emulate him.

The former Patriots corner studies the down and distance of plays and he studies the way receivers come off the ball to run their routes.  If they do something in their release or anytime as they get into the route which tips off the route their running Samuel picks it up.

Many times he’ll read something that a receiver does when  he comes off the ball which will allow him to run the route for the receiver.  Samuel picks off the ball and you don’t know which guy is the receiver because Samuel runs the guy’s route like he the cornerback is the receiver.

Patterson has picked up on the preparation.  He learned some things about the Redskins before the game which gave him a heads up on which routes they were going to run.  He ended up with two picks against Washington by running the wide receivers routes.  On the second interception, which he ran back for a touchdown, he knew McNabb was going to have to get rid of the ball quickly because of the blitz, so he ignored the deep route and squatted on the short route.

Samuel knows what Patterson is going through because he went through the same thing in New England while playing on the side opposite Ty Law.

“Like I told Dimitri, I was in his shoes before. When [former Patriots CB] Tyrone Poole went down, it was me and [former Patriots CB] Ty Law out there. Every meeting, coach always told me, ‘they’re not coming at Ty Law, they’re going to come at you.’ He was the Pro Bowler and I was the rookie, the young guy. I definitely earned my stripes and they came at me. It took weeks, years. It took awhile to earn it.”

Somebody had better let Ellis Hobbs know that his job is all but lost.  Notice how many times this year, guys have lost their starting spots due to injury.  All that you can’t lose your starting job because of injury is garbage.

Quintin Mikell doesn’t agree with everybody who says the Dallas Cowboys are the Eagles arch-rival.  Mikell thinks it’s the Giants and not the Cowboys.  He talked about all the big games the two teams have played since he’s been in the league.

Nate Allen is expected back and he doesn’t think he’ll miss a beat after missing some time because of a neck injury.

Sounds Good,
I am updating my Prediction to 34-16 Eagles..
(Kolb makes a surprise entry into the game in the 3rd Quater after a Eli Fumble in which Kolb comes in
and finds Rily Cooper open in the end-zone for a 26 yeard TD pass just to rub a little salt in it)

who the hell are you to tell me to shut up? I’ve noticed you talk very tough over the internet Birdchest! I support the Eagles and who is the starter at this very moment, Vick! The only way Kolb plays is if Vick gets hurt…If Vick gets hurt you can hang up, any big expectations you have as an Eagles fan!

Take it from experience. There are one or two people who visit this site that just aren’t worth the words you type. This guy obviously has serious emotional issues. I agree with Mikell. The Giants are our biggest rival. I think Eagles fans just hate Dallas fans more so that makes it seem like we hate the Cowboys more. I hate them all equally but from a rival standpoint, the Giants are our biggest. If you ask real Cowboys fan who their biggest rival is, they will say the Redskins because is their biggest rival. Cowboys fans in Dallas do not look at the Eagles with the same hatred that we look at the Cowboys.

yea my uncle is a die hard Cowboys fan and he hates the Redskins with a passion…Being they are all from the same division makes us Eagles fans root against all of them…Every Sunday, no matter who the Cowboys, Giants, Redskin play, I want them to lose…only time I really can watch them play without prejudice is when they are playing against one another. (but that also depends on the standings)

Here’s to all my Eagle Nation Brothers who sent massive doses of good ol’ karma down to D.C, good work fellas. Now a more imposing task stands before us, ah yes them little giants. So here is the plan don’t waste your good karma on some selfish lottery ticket, or a night at Atlantic City or any casino. If you are at a night club and you see a hot lady smiling your way and you are feeling lucky….squash it brother your defense needs you.

I need good karma, deep down when the going gets tough karma. So lock it up boys and show up on time with the goods, and if at anytime you feel afraid of the outcome, stand up, walk to the next room and slap yourself and don’t come back till ya feeling the good stuff.

Anyway you guys are a pleasure to converse with and it has been a blast marching to the SB with you (Dreaming big, i am having fun, leave me the heck alone.) Thats my story and until fourther notice or defeats I’m sticking to it.

🙂 a little humor but you get my point, something is lining this team up to be something more than we all thought embace it and hold the faith. Take note: Dixion, Patterson, Vick, Schmidt, Harrison, Hall (in his own way), Laws, Tapp, Coleman. I don’t care if I sound crazy yada yada yada, as the kid in the Mazda commercial said “Somethings up!”

Thats all for now brothers AS ALWAYS LONG LIVE THE EAGLES

Can someone help me with this stat. Am i correct that the Giants great defensive line has 24 sacks? How many sacks did they have against Chicago? 10? So if my math is right that leaves them with 14 sacks in the other 8 games.thats about 1.5 sacks a game. Alson I dont think they have had a sack in their last 2 games. I mean I keep hearing about this pass rush and I did see them kill Cutler. But other than that its just been an avg rush.

Daggolden, there is nothing wrong with your math brother, what you say is correct, 14 sacks (minus the bears game) is still good but that Bears game did boost them up some. I am not going to take that from them but I like your train of thought, they didn’t wack Kitna much, so I am very much encouraged about Vick in this game against them.

Oh yes, Celek has been silent, but i still love the guy, he is putting in his work unsung of course, but like many of you have said we are going to need him sooner than later. Good call to the smart guys you know who you are.

Later Nation, got to go put my own work in so I can stay on the active roster and be a productive player for my family haaaa.

I got one more stat for you. The Eagles have more sacks than the Giants. So actually the GIANTS need to be worried about keeping Sheli healthy. Because we bring the best pass rush to the party.

Another concern I have with the Giants. Roger Godell has been preaching about safety for his players. On quite a few occassions I have heard Giants players talk about hurting Vick and taking him out of the game. What is up with that? Have you ever heard that kind of shit before? Can you imagine a team saying we want to hurt Manning, we want to hurt Brady and take them out? Ive never heard talk like this before. Godell better be watching this game and telling his refs if someone even attempts a cheap shot on Vick they are suspended for the rest of the year. Thats bullshit.

I am with Rcp on the rivalry. Here is how the Cowboy thing started. For a generation of Eagles fans, the Birds were putrid, John Reeves, Mike McCormick, hell, they could have drafted OJ but passed on him for Leroy Keyes I believe. Cowboys had qb Staubach, navy guy, people in philly looked for a winner, all the other teams in philly stunk too, dark era in phila sports (at one point 76ers allowed admission to game with a snickers wrapper attendance was so bad), couldn’t root for giants, that was the big rivalry, so philly people jumped on the Cowboys bandwagon, my brother was one of them, we were raised in lower bucks county, saw other people wearing Cowboys sweatshirts(no jerseys, too expensive), and that’s how it started. But for us who remember or heard about Bednarik destroying Gifford, or the hurt when the Giants torched the Eagles for 62 points in ’72 I believe(I listened to it on the radio in car with Dad, tv black outs then, cried like a baby), the miracle in the meadowlands, or went to college with new yorkers or new jersey folks who put it in our face, the rivalry will always b e the Giants

FYI – The offense with Vick as a starter is averaging 35.25 points.

Excluding points scored by the defense, here are the numbers: 28, 35, 26 and 52.

I feel there’s been a bit of a double standard. Against the Colts, Vick was hit out of bounds a couple of times and there were also a couple of late hits, but nothing was called.
