This was the first time Michael Vick missed some wide open receivers. I shocked at the way he launched the bomb to DeSean Jackson and over threw him. With just a flick of the wrist without using his legs the ball sailed well over Jackson’s head.
He missed rookie Clay Harbor on a corner route and failed to get the ball to a couple other open receivers. Now we know he’s human.
Are we ever going to get anything out of Brent Celek this season? Now they’re splitting rookie Clay Harbor outside to get some production from the tight end position. I still think they’re going to need something from him before the season is finished.
LeSean McCoy made two big runs to win the football game last night and give himself another 100 plus yard rushing day. McCoy now has 726 yards rushing on the year, so he has six games to gain another 274 yards to reach a thousand for the season.
Jeremy Maclin is having a great season and he had a great game last night. He’s got an outstanding combination of size, speed and hands. The young is also very smart and runs great routes. He caught nine passes for 120 yards.
After ten games, Maclin has caught 47 passes for 705 yards with seven touchdowns. He’s likely to go over 1000 yards on the season and DeSean Jackson is likely to do the same.
What’s up with DeSean Jackson and the alligator arms? I want them to stop throwing the ball to Jackson in crowds. The dude isn’t going to be around if he gets hit a few more times like he did in the Atlanta game.
Jason Avant is supposed to have the best pair of hands on the football team. He went on a streak during training camp and dropped one or two footballs in nearly a month worth of practices, yet he dropped a ball which could have been caught by fans in the stands.
He didn’t catch the football with his hands but tried to catch with his body and that was the big mistake which he made. He bounced back and caught a couple of passes in the game, but this team can’t afford to have that type of drop in the future.
We must give the Eagles offensive line a lot of credit for the job they did in blocking the Giants pass rush. Yes they did have too many penalties but they gave Michael Vick plenty of time to throw the football when New York was rushing with their front four.
What was Todd Herremans doing yesterday with the clipping penalty and chop blocking penalty? Herremans is 6’5″ 310 pounds. He’s plenty big enough to take these guys on up high. That wasn’t one of his best football games. He’s too good of a football player to make those types of mistakes.
Former Eagles offensive lineman Shawn Andrews did a good job on Trent Cole, but he did get a holding penalty which cost the Giants a first down. Andrews had missed practice for most of the week prior to the game, but was able to go at game time.
Yeah, G. “Starship 7” was never launched yesterday, but there were a number of drops that could have blown the game wide open.
Maclin had one during the first series, and Jackson had two later in the game.
I must admit that I wasn’t sold on Maclin, but his play has changed my outlook. He’s been our most consistent receiver and has proven his worth, even with Jackson sidelined.
A win like this can only bolster this group’s confidence. They should now understand that Vick can’t do it alone and that every opportunity for a reception is vital.
BTW – I’m just having fun with the Starship thing.
This game here is a good look on what this Eagle Team is made of……… Thats what the Birdz have been missing 4 the past few years…… We lost Dawkins, Westbrook, and Mcnabb, and people say where is the leadership on this team……. We do have guys who are young but can be solid leaders now and years to come……. Actions speak louder than words……. Of course we had a lot of penalities that may cause us a game but with almost 100yrds worth….. And beat a team soundly…… That speaks that this Eagles team is the real deal……. Just get that corrected we should be a dynasty for years to come…… GO BIRDZ
I mean numbers wise…….. We dominate teams in that category!!!!
Vick overthrew a streaking D-Jax on the 2nd Series which could have a been 6 if he got a little more air under it… Avant did make a crucial 3rd Down cath late in the 4th Quarter on their Scoring drive.
Maclin has improved tremendously from last year and is probably the teams best route runner,
he probably saved Vick a sure Int on a underthorwn ball down the goal line that Vick threw up for grabs..
When the Coaches and Vick review this tape, they will show that Vick got away with a fair amount of poor passes that could have been picked off and few missed opportunities when Receivers were running wide open down the field (Harbor a couple of time, Celek,Avant,Cooper and Maclin too.
Vick can’t be satisfied with that performance and I expect to him to a better game next week versus the Bears who have another good defense scheme and players..
All in a win is a win, but the Eagles have to cut down on these negative plays and they did end their consecutive streak af at least 1 Defensive Sack which they did not get last night even thought they got good pressure on Eli.. They did not register an official sack…
For sure D-Jax has alligator arms if not alligator body. It sure looked to me like he was afraid of the safety coming over and did not extend for the ball.
Paul just stop it! Seriously…… Explain the Kolb throw when Cooper saved him…… What about he missed Deshawn horribly with the corner out pass huh!!!! You have no points here…… Im sorry…… Your just reaching now……. Just stop reaching seriously…….
Hear is what the Eagles need to correct. Catch the ball when it hits the recievers on both hands and the games a blowout. Vick missed some guys, but he had 3 dropped passes by Eagles recievers that should have been touchdowns. They moved up and down the field with a couple punts in the entire game.
The recievers got open, Vick threw ok and the line blocked very good. The mistakes were all self inflicted, not caused by the Giants except for the turnovers.
I was very impressed they won despite trying to give the Giants a win. Very correctable mistakes. The Giants offensive line will be better/healthier next time around.
G:
I was very impressed with the Eagles’ D. They looked like they were circling the game drain after they got down by 1, but I thought they rallied. And, dare I say it, Stewart Bradley looked better – surprisingly.
It struck me that Herreman’s hits were pure payback. Any info on that? He was pushing that tire and playing with those lengthy tubes at camp for a long, long time after his surgery. Did the Giants DL have anything to do with that?
false pman like i said be4 even when vick misses they arent in areas to be picked off
he might have had 1 ball in danger of an int if that
Paul
On the overthrow to Jackson, Vick had to first elude the pass rush and was being chased. It’s not as easy as it looks.
Paul
I think you might be exaggerating a bit. Besides, the pass rush on Vick was pretty intense.
Paul
You seem to have double standards. Check out your previous post:

I think Kolb actually played ok last week considering…
If Coach AR doesn’t botch that time out/penalty just before the half where it sould have been 17-10 at half… Then McCoy Fumbles at the 2 yard line where the could have tied as the 4th Quarter was starting.. Who knows how the game comes out after different things happen, but at least he brought the Eagles back after another abysmal start in the 1st quarter against a decent team.. As a matter of fact , WR J Avant could have actually won the game if he hangs onto that hail-mail pass at the end the game… If that occurred, many posters would be on here saying “See I told you so, Kolb is great, Kolb is the Man, the Leader, the “Comeback Kid, the Great White Hope, etc,etc,etc..
It seems you make excuses for Kolb and are overly critical of Vick. I have other examples as well.
Paul
When Kolb was QB, you blamed everyone and everything. See the following:
I just rewatched the Game and I swear, my Son’s toy “Nigna Stuffed Toy” could tackle better than
CB A Sammuel… Has anyone see a NFL player of his talent play like such a “P—-Y” !!!!!!
It’s embarrasing to watch this team become so “soft” over the years… in years past, the Eagles may
have lost some games, but the other team was always going to pay a price for it..now it’s a lovey, dovey, and I respect this guy, that guy, help pick-him up off the ground, etc, etc…
Where’ the “Warriors”, the “Proud” on the Eagles Team
Also, I think the next time PW visits the Wizard of OZ, he needs to bring both D-Jax and J Maclin so they can get some “Heart”.. (both these players appeared to have “quit” a little on their teammates last week)
Paul, more from you:

That’s BS on Avant play,
When you get both your hands on the ball and you have a chance to catch it and your in the End-Zone at the end of a game, you catch and hold onto the damn ball..
That’s the most assanine excuse I have heard since the coming of Ernie Sims to the Eagles..
“He’s a playmaker, a difference maker, a high # 1 pick who offenses will have to account for”…
Are you kidding me.. Is there another Ernie SIms that plays football that I am not aware about…
This team is falling apart at the seams in front of our eyes and everyone is looking for excuses now.. The bottom line is that they are simply an average team with average personnel and average coaching that will win no more that 6/7/8/ games whether they have Vick/Kolb playing QB
Paul, here’s more blame:
Eagles are just small across the board on Defense to the DT’s, LBs, CB and even at Safety where many of today’s Safeties are over 6′ and weigh 220-230lbs where they can take on the big athletic RB’s,TE,& WR that play in today’s NFL..
JJ’s Defense’s of the late 90/early 2000′s was great to match up speed and athleticism with what many teams in the NFL were doing at the time of employing 3 WR sets and running “WCO/Red-Gun” type of Offenses. The skill players (RB,WR,TE) have all become bigger, stronger and faster and I am not sure the keeping of “small but fast” type of personnel on Defense works all that well versus these bigger Skill Players in the NFL anymore. The Eagles Defense simply cannot match up physically
with them week by week and as the season gets into Nov/Dec with this Roster…
Paul
I’ve got tons more. I save everything.
When Kolb was putting the ball up for grabs, literally, you made all kinds of excuses.
In yesterdays game, no one on defense dropped any near picks yesterday. Yet, you point the finger at Vick. Not one commentator so much as mentioned a Vick interception. Not one newspaper article mentions a near pick. Yet you, Paul, see these things. How is that?
When a QB throws a ball in the NFL, a defender will be in the area. If a receiver runs the wrong route or if the timing is thrown off, the ball can be thrown directly to a defender. That’s how tight coverage is in the NFL.
To sum it up, here’s Paul Mancini on both a Vick win and after a Kolb loss:

A lot of what I saw were some pretty 3/4 speed routes being run and with their heads not looking back for the ball, which is a sign that WR’s will use often, when they don’t want
This Eagles Defense was built in mind for the Eagle Offense putting up lots of points and getting a lead on teams where the Eagles would unleash thier “fast balls” on opposing QB’s and have their ball-hawking Def Secondary and make some Int’s..
The big problem with this Defense is their lack of size and strength up fromnt when playiong more physical teams who like to run the ball first which is probably 1/2 the teams that they will face this season in 49ers,Bears,Falcons,Titans,Jags,Redskins (twice),Giants (twice),and even the Vikings
will run the ball more with AP versus this Eagles front… So I count about 10 of the 16 games that the Eagles D will be tested and mostl likely over-matched at the point of attack…
So far it worked against an inept Jaguar Offense, it did not work versus the Redskins…
I also failed to include the Cowboys Tewice and the Texans who have RB A Foster just tearing it up right now…
My biggest concern moving forward is why build a defense which just doesn’t match up well with
most of the opponents you will face… If you cannot stop the run in the NFC East and play physical type of football, you will not make the playoffs… (I think this has been proven, time and time again..)
Eagles are just small across the board on Defense to the DT’s, LBs, CB and even at Safety where many of today’s Safeties are over 6′ and weigh 220-230lbs where they can take on the big athletic RB’s,TE,& WR that play in today’s NFL..

drummer’s pullin’ out the big guns on Mancini
Maybe
A man’s gottra do . . .
LOL
Good stuff Drummerboy,
Your Paulman file must getting overstuffed by now..
But did you see that once we get on a player’s performance, that maybe he improves..
I see Samuel playing very well and aggressively, I see E SIms, D Tapp making plays now which many of us did not see all Summer Camp,Pre-Season or even the 1st couple weeks of the season. maybe you can repost some of my critical marks about the invisible man (TE B Celek) this season so he can turn around his season and help the team win…I will continue to call them, as I see them…
Yeah Paul, I am sure the Eagles read your posts and are motivated by them. This is what cracks me up and motivated me to post here: there is unmistakeable agenda, agenda not shared by the players, who want to win, make money, and will align themselves with the best players, indiscriminate of color, creed, music taste, sexual preference, dog killing, whatever, if you ever wore a sweaty jock you would understand this, but I sense that a lot of the posters here are jock sniffers, stat rats, align themselves with Kolb or Vick, previously with McNabb, but they don’t have a real understanding of the qb’s ability, especially as perceived by the players. I will bet you that to a man, the Eagles players, including Kolb, would say that in this order that Vick, Kolb, and McNabb a distant third is the pecking order this year.
Yo drummer I see I’m not the only one who notices the agenda. It won’t go away until Kolb goes away. Many of these geniuses got all hype over anything Kolb did well and went out of their way to spread the blame across the team. But in the past they neglected to do the same with regards to McNabb and even with a win they still want to point out some things that Vick probably could have done better and ignoring those things with Kolb. It’s almost comical how some bent over backwards so Kolb wouldn’t seem bad but now go out of their way to find criticism for Vick. Just funny stuff man. And jake, Kolb is not better than McNabb. Put Kolb in Washington with that offensive line and those garbage weapons he’d looked just like Joey Harrington. Put McNabb back in Philly, he’d probably look like he did last year when they broke team offensive records. But I digress.
Paul man….you might want to revise your rankings.
Look what I found.
With the impressive win last night over the Giants, the Eagles are the only team in the NFL with 4 victories over teams with winning records. Those teams include the 8-2 Atlanta Falcons, the 6-4 New York Giants, the 6-4 Indianapolis Colts, and the 6-4 Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Patriots, Falcons, and Titans are the only other teams with 3 wins over teams with winning records. The Pats knocked off the Ravens, Steelers, and Colts. The Falcons have beaten the Saints, Buccaneers, and Ravens. And finally, the oddball of the group, the 5-5 Titans have beaten the Eagles, Giants, and Jaguars.
Philly will have a chance to knock off the 5th team this season with a winning record next Sunday when they go to Chicago to face the 7-3 Bears.
Based on opponents played….we are the most powerful.
On top of this we’re in the top 3 in major areas which gives team a 90% winning rate.
Explosive plays 20 yards or more, and Takeaway to turnover ratio.
Crunch your numbers Paul man,,,,Vegas have crunched them and right now Eagles are best team with room for improvement, depth, and fairly healthy in the key positions.
Scorp, I do not want to fence with you on Kolb v.McNabb, not relevant really, the point I was trying to make is that the players do not share the agenda that the posters do on Gcobb, they want to win, Vick is their best chance, end of story. And until Vick shows that he is unable to lead this team to unprecedented success, which up until know he hasn’t, we should be behind this qb like the players, why didn’t we listen to the players before, why didn’t we listen to Hopkins, because we were told what to believe, sort of like the Emperor with no clothes. Let it play out. I have a good feeling.
To Songs
MY Rankings after 10 Games are what they are..
#1) Atlanta at 8-2 and has won all home games and lost both games to pretty good teams in the Steelers
and Eagles
#2) Packers at 7-3 and I hav ethem ranked ranked higher than the Eagles because they beat the Eagles in Philly on opening day head to head
With 6 games left and Vick finally entrenched as the #1 QB, the Eagles have plenty of time and games to rise to #1, but they are not there as of today after 10 games played with losses to the Packers,Titans and Redskins, 2 of which were home at the Linc
We’ll see how the season plays out and the Eagles are indeed in very good shape with momentum,
coaching, the most exciting and dynamic players playing and growing together who definitely have a lot more upside than the rest of the NFL, But I am taking the season in it’s totality after 11 weeks and 10 games, not the last 2-3 weeks…
Great Job Drummer.
Paul You have the packers ahead of the Eagles because head to head the Eagles loss to GB.
The Eagles beat the Falcons and could be put ahead of the ATL because of head to head.
I am sure that the record is the reason you have the Falcons at #1. However there are a few instances were record does not matter. A 10-6 division champion can get a bye. While a 11-5 team has to play a wild card game. AP polls etc.
The Giants had the number 1 defense in the league and the best game plan we have seen all year to stop Vick, and the Eagles still scored 27 points on a off night. Avants sure TD would have put them at 31. That’s against the #1 ranked defense. The Eagles offense can not be stopped and now with Patterson at corner the secondary is one of the best. The Eagles are the #1 team in the NFL with the #1 player.
Vick has not been that good in cold weather. He played his HS and college ball in VA and played in a dome in ATL. Chicago will be a great test to see if he can perform at a high level as the temperture drops. He will. The remainder of the schedual has a rookie coach in Min and Dal. It’s not too early to start thinking home field advantage.
Paulman, your Green Bay ranking don’t equate the fact Kolb was erratic and Vick came in and almost won the game with only a half of football. The packers have no running game and they’re nursing serious injuries. Atlanta is ass. Kolb beat them and they were hyped before we ripped them a new one.
wake up!
Paul
I was addressing your criticism of Vick after a win versus your excuses for Kolb after loss. It seems that you have a bit of a double standard.
bsm
You bring up a very good point. How will Vick perform in cold weather?
McNabb has very big hands and was able to throw the ball in cold weather. I question whether either Vick or Kolb are able to do so. We’ll find out soon enough.
Paul
I don’t have a file on your or anyone else, but when someone makes statements that I feel are over the top, I hold onto it. When you blamed the “wind” for a Kolb loss, that was over the top.
Scorp
You made a lot of good points. McNabb’s playing for a bad team, period. And last year, our offensive line finished in a pathetic state. Once we lost our starting center, their play just dropped off a cliff. I recall the center hiking the ball to himself against Dallas.
Our defense was also pretty bad, too. That’s why so many changes were made.
The Eagles have to start getting production from the TE
Most teams have productive ones
I don’t know if it is because Celek has to help with the blocking and if so it is a weakness in the O line
And the Eagles don’t have the quick pass over the middle or slant across the middle to the TE
This may be because Vick is only 6 ft and need a deep drop to see the field
The last 3 games the Eagles have not had to face teams with good receivers s either because they were injured or the teams just didn’t have them
Chicago will be a real test for the secondary–Let’s hope Cutler has one of his erratic days
As far as Vick not having a great game—it was more of a case of his receivers having problems othewise his QB rating would have been over 100 again
BUT I am still concerned about his size and the fact he needs to roll out or take a deep drop to see the field BUT then Drew Brees at 6 ft does OK
I think Vick will be ok in the cold weather. He led Atlanta in the playoffs to beat Green Bay at Lambeau where they almost never lost and this is when he wasn’t even a good QB. He had to play road games in the cold so I’m not too worried about that. I think the cold weather aspect of it is a bit blown out of proportion for QBs. I think they are more affected by things like the wind and rain more so than cold weather because at some point or another they all have to play outdoors.
rcp, I fully agree. IMO Celek has been overrated for a while and he gets less looks because of the state of the oline and Vick looks more to make throws down the field. And when Celek does have a chance to make a play, he does something wrong. I was at the game on Sunday so you guys tell me, did it seem like Harbor was getting more looks and time in than he has previously been getting? It’s not easy to tell everything that going on with personnel while you’re at the game. Thoughts?
rcp, yeah I felt a little the same way about his height but I think they like deep drops with him because he’s so fast him taking a 5-7 step drop is like other QBs taking a 3-5 step drop. As long as he moves around in the pocket and keeps his head up, he’ll be fine.
Here’s one thing I did see. I saw Vick get hit in the head by a Giants defender on several occasions and no flag. They weren’t trying to hit him in the head or hurt him intentionally but they did hit him. So this takes me back to the garbage penalty Trent Cole got on Peyton Manning when he basicially brushed his helmet. So eve those it was like a tap, the rule is the rule and they need to be consistent.
Ooh, the cruel wind and rain.
I don’t have the Eagles over the Falcons since Falcons have a better overall Record at 8-2 versus the
Eagles 7-3 Record. You have to go with total wins first for that’s why they play the game, to win…
Paulman, I think because you stated you have Green Bay over the Eagles because of the head to head win but then have the Falcon over the Eagles even though we smoked them. Yes, number of wins does matters when it comes to playoff seeding but it doesn’t matter as much in power ranking when you’re only 1 game behind the team and you already crushed them. And for that I’d put the Eagles above Atlanta. Call me crazy but I just don’t see what everyone sees is Atlanta. Wouldn’t surprise me if New Orleans still wins that division.
