The Bears 7-3 Record Is Decieving

The Eagles will officially move on from the Giants on Wednesday as they begin to prepare for the Chicago Bears. For the second straight week the Eagles will a division leader in the NFC, and a team with one of the best records in the conference. At 7-3, the Bears have the same record as the Birds, but make no mistake- the Bears are not on the same level as the Eagles.

While Chicago has a 7-3 record, they have not faced the toughest schedule. The Bears have only faced 2 teams that have  a winning record, with the rest of their schedule having a combined record of 24-54. They have lost to the Seahawks- in Chicago no less. In comparison, the Eagles have faced only 2 teams that have losing records.

Jay Cutler is not living up to the expectations the people of Chicago had when the Bears traded for him. Cutler has thrown 10 interceptions and only 12 touchdowns despite only missing 1 game. In comparison, Michael Vick has thrown for 11 touchdowns in only 7 games he has started. Cutler’s 2,000 passing yards are only twice as many as Kevin Kolb has- even thought Cutler has started 5 more games then Kolb.

In addition to turning the ball over, the Bears are not putting the ball in the end zone. The Bears are only scoring 19 points a game, 25th in the league. In the games they have faced versus winning teams, the Bears average only 13 points. The Bears cannot throw or run the ball, ranking 27th in passing and 20th in rushing. After facing the Colts and the Giants in back to back weeks, names like Johnny Know and Earl Bennett should not strike fear into the red hot Eagles secondary.

The Bears defense is the reason this team is winning games. They are giving up the least points in the league, allowing only 14 a game. The Bears have one of the top rushing defenses in the league, but can be attacked through the air. The Bears are giving up over 200 yards a game in that category.

Regardless of statistics, this game will be a tough one for the Eagles. The Bears are undefeated at home and this late in the season, every cold, playoff style game will be a tough one for this young team. But make no mistake about it- this Bears team is beatable, and not the imposing team their 7-3 record indicates.

if picking winners were as easy as picking the favored teams….instead pick cowboys, falcons, redskins, bills, giants, and seahawks.

So is the Eagles’. Lost to the loser sucking Deadskins, beat Indy without half of their offensive weapons and the Giants without Steve Smith, and most of the offensive line. This team still has a long way to go, just like everybody else. Who beat who means jack, the Browns mangled the Pats and NE is probably the best team in the NFL. They have to get it done every single week, last game is over.

anderson you are 100% correct. I always thought talking about the teams a team beat was overrated. I do think a team’s record against good or bad opponents can give you some type of indication of how good that team is but at the same time, teams change from week to week. A team can look great one week against a good team (e.g. Us vs Atlanta) and then look bad against another team who isn’t pegged as good (e.g. Us vs Titans). The whole talk about how many “winning” teams a team beat means squat. You can only play who is on your schedule and the teams everyone thought was going to be good at the beginning of the year didn’t turn out to be but now you look like you only play easy teams. That happens to EVERY team every year. Good teams lose to bad teams all the time. It’s about what you do in the playoffs.

Anyway, I know it was Thanksgiving yesterday but it’s Friday and we haven’t had any articles with real substance in regards to the actual game to be played. What’s the deal with that?

Scorp,
It’s the over-confidence that the Team,Media and too many Fans have about this team..
They haven’t won anything yet and are now in jeopardy of missing the playoffs.
