Reid and Jackson Say Everything Is Fine Between Them

Andy Reid was peppered with quite a few questions about DeSean Jackson and their post-game disagreements after the Bears game.

Reid says he and DeSean are on the same page and that he loves a guy like Jackson who wants the ball all the time and especially with the game on the line.

He did nothing but praise his diminutive star and even defended the fact that Jackson has been accused of growing alligator arms since he got pounded in the Atlanta game.

Reid talked about how much he loves Jackson’s enthusiasm and love of playing the  game.

I think this is one of Andy’s methods of motivating his players.  He’ll chew them out privately to motivate him that way, then praise them publicly and that way the player wants to prove him right when he brags on him in public.

Reid finds a way to be both the good cop and bad cop all at the same time.

Near the end of the time the locker room was open to reporters, Jackson showed up at his locker and talked to reporters.

“Yeah, we’re good,” is what Jackson told a group reporters around his locker about a couple of hours ago.

Jackson wouldn’t talk about what was said in the locker room after the game.  He said that is between everybody on the team.

A number of times during his interview Jackson said he doesn’t care what people are saying about him if it doesn’t have anything to do with finding way to win football games.

He repeated his mantra over and over.

“I just want to win games, that’s what I’m here for,” Jackson said. “As far as anything else, I could care less about it.”

This a really tricky situation we have here. I would be a pissed off mutha too if I was DJax…However, if I’m the Eagle’s FO how much do you invest in a player who is SO small and skinny..He’s a risk. I mean big time. I mean he’s got more courage just to strap it up every weekend..Remember that..This guy is the smallest man on the field and he still plays..It’s amazing..DJax is amazing..

Jimmy, the Pats have three smallish WR’s no one is complaining about them. I do understand that those guys are heavier a bit, but still I bet that no team in the NFL is looking at Jackson’s size if he were on the market. He has taken grown man hits, hits that have doomed bigger men also. Hey we need to considered his size in our game plans, like set him up in traffic, but he is a top teir threat in this league.

I agree with you in most regards Jimmy, I just think that the FO would be stuck on stupid to let another team get our man.

DJax has repeatedly said the “right” thing. The guy has shown great restraint, and has not done what so many other “stars” do when ever they are looking for a new contract. I hope the front office pays attention. I know he is small and now has a history of consussions, but he is a playmaker. He has been a “good soldier”, but I hope that he can stay healthy, get paid by the birds and be an all-pro for years to come. I respect DJax for the way he has handled being “dressed down” by the coach. I don’t know if many of us would be able to bite our tongues given the same situation.

Feel you Jmac.HE really is impressive with some of the hits he’s taken and popped up . Then catches a 50yarder. You have too re-up that guy cause his top gear is the difference between a title and no title. Defense no doubt. But Djax changes the way teams defend us. And with Maclin coming into his own.Pay em. And get off his jock about alligator arms…when he catchs a 88 yard bomb too put a knife through an oppenents heart too start the game.Im cool with a drop in the end zone one time.

If I only know one thing, it’s this..
D-Jax better be careful what he says/does for Coach AR will eat him for lunch if he doesn’t…
Coach AR is saying all the right things now, but if you dip D-Jax in some barbecue sauce and throw him on the Grille, that’s in AR office, all these niceties are out the window…

Ya’ll keep forgetting…Desean is only 23 years old! 24 tomorrow, relax. He is still maturing. I know when I was 23, I wasn’t perfectly mature. And plus, you dont know how you would react if you was getting paid minimum wage in the NFL and you were better than everyone on your team. You can say it now, but you really dont know how you would act if they were making 10 times what you do. But still, Desean is handling this in a classy way. All you’ve heard is “HEARSAY” but you have no proof publicly. So dont be so quick to judge the man. Get’em on Thursday DJAX you are still the best WR in my eyes

That’s Leadership 101, just like they teach at Quantico. Praise in public, ream ’em out behind closed doors. Creates loyalty both up and down the chain of command. That is one of the reasons that Coach Reid’s teams never quit on him like is seen in so many NFL cities, he tells it like it is and does not embarrass them in public. Of course, you cannot forget to add a fat joke in there, and a reminder he sucks because he has not won a Super Bowl here. Yet.

Diz, your very much correct.

Desean signed a 4 year 3 million dollar contract. If he or his agent thought he was worth more then they could have held out. He signed it because he is the size of a HS football player, who had attitude problems in college. That is why 30 other teams passed on him. Players always want more money when the perform well. Does the same player give money back when they underperform? It’s a two way street. Both took a risk reward chance.

Desean has made a habit of disappearing in games with good defenses. Which means he’s a good player, but not great. I would take Donald Driver, Larry Fitz, K. Britt, D Hester, and at least 5 other recievers over DJax.

Before the chicago game I went to their website and their play by play man said that while the Eagle receivers are the fastest they will face all year long, the scouting report also said the are the softest in the league. Maclins plop on the grass in open field, and Djax alligator arms proved them right.

In the long term, Riley Cooper’s size and speed might be what the Eagles need in the NFC east. We never could stop Plaxico Burress.

Djax is exciting to watch, and Andy is doing a good job getting him the ball on reverses and deep passes. But after that, he does not seem willing or able to catch a slant or curl or squar out. or my favorite. The skinny post, as opposed to the fat post.

Come playoff time, you need dependable players. Not gimmicks that work on weak stupid teams.

Hey Diz, I don’t get that argument, but you are not alone in making it. There are plenty of adults out there that by 23 years old, are mature and responsible. In my opinion, DJax is already mature, and has handled himself in a professional way. He has not thrown a tantrum, he hasn’t held out of training camp or any of the other tricks. He is a small guy playing in a giants game, and he makes big plays.

I just don’t see where anyone needs to use the excuse of “youth”, there are plenty of 23 year olds raising families, going to work or war and acting in a responsible way. DJax doesn’t need that excuse, and too many use it for just plain irresponibility.

Much to do about nothing…..

Djax-will get his money. He is a very good player and will wear Eagles Green for a long time.
Mac-getting it done…. good hands… good speed….. finds a way to get into space.
Avant-hav’nt heard as much from him this year but hes got good hands.
Cooper-has the size we need… good role player.

Avant is having his best year as a WR of his career and has probably been the most consistent performer..He has been making the tough/critical catches and blocking well all season and is one of the team unsung heroes I believe (even though he dropped that wide open TD pass versus the Giants)
Avant has 41 recetions in which 24 went for 1st downs and 11.5 yd average per catch which for a #3 WR is pretty darn good
Maclin ( 51 Receptions, 8 TD’s, almost 15 yard avg catch) is improving every week and is playing light years better than he did last season, he’s a keeper who will continue to get better and is having a legitimate Pro-Bowl Season
D Jackson ( 35 receptions, 5 TD’s and a almost 20 yd avg per catch) needs to get back on track..
He’s a big play threat who can score from anywhere on the field, his low #’s, injuries have been talked about the last couple of weeks, but if the Eagles want to be a true contender for NFC Championship and SUper Bowl, they need to get D-Jax untracked and the ball more, and in turn D-Jax needs to catch it, keep his focus and play hard and finish plays

The Eagles TE’s Celek/HArbor/MIlls have 31 Recpeptions between them and Celek has 3 TD’s and played his best game of the season ast week, so maybe it’s his turn to get hot down the stretch, which the Eagles will need as they make their final push for the playoffs.. Cold,Windy conditions casue for using that TE a little more.. especially in the Red-Zone…
