Akers wins NFC Special Teams Player of the Month award

Congratulations to David Akers, who won his fourth NFC Special Teams Player of the Month award for November. He really should buy gold watches for everyone on the offense who couldn’t find a way to get in the end zone more.

Akers kicked 13 field goals in November (out of 14 attempts). He was perfect on 13 extra points (as he should be) and had seven touchbacks. He’s getting older, but he doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all.

While he’s getting this award mainly because of a poor red-zone offense, he still had to make the kicks. And while it’s frustrating to settle for three, it’s awfully nice to know that when you sputter, he’ll get you the three almost every time.

Like I say on this site all the time, he’s easy to take for granted. Think of the frustration you’d feel if the offense couldn’t get it done and you then had to rely on David Buehler or Garrett Hartley to secure three points.

How does McDermitt keep his job. This defense is awful. The worst redzone defense in 22 years in the NFL? Nate Allen is awful. Brandon Graham is awful.

Andy Reid wont run the ball. He keeps Vick getting killed. How awful is Reid and Marty? They wont run the ball. Vick gets pressure. Shaub has all day 2 and 3, 3rd and 2. They wont run. Its amazing. Its comical.

What the hell is Reid’s problem, we can beat these guys with some run plays and he keeps throwing when the WR’s are droping balls, damn adjust AR/MM come on.

Oh by the way for you guys not in philly without NFLnetwork, the game is on (Mostly) on NFL.com

I’ve been saying it since the Titans game. Too many passes. Reid will get your QB killed. Does anyone see it yet?

He did the same thing to McNabb.

Broken ankle – 50 passes, broken ribs – 50 passes, sports hernia – 50 passes.

That defense is awful. It was awful in Detroit, Tenn, Wash, SF, Texans, and the Bears. This is unacceptable. This is a joke.

When we were winning, I still said the play- calling would eventually get his QB killed.

Against Atlanta, Reid ran the ball 54% of the time. Since that time, he’s thrown the ball as much as 88% of the time.

After his first 15 scripted plays, he goes into a passing frenzy. It’s happened every time.

Drummer you are correct. Its not rocket science. You pass 50 times you have 50 chances to get hit. You pass 30 times and run 20 you cut 20 potentiial hits. Not only that. Friggin McCoy was running well when given a chance. 2nd and 3 why not run?

He’s got to diversity his play calling – reverses, sweeps, dives, draws, screens, short passes, eventual bomb.

drummerwinslow
drummerwinslow
December 2, 2010 10:45 pm

Not only that. When the defense knows you’re going to pass, they don’t hesitate. They go straight after the QB. If it’s a draw, they’ve got to wait. If it’s a screen, they’ve got to wait. If it’s a run, they’ve got to cover their gap. If it’s pass, pass, they can run stunts and blitzes.

Reid did the same thing in the NFC Championship against Carolina. We owned them running the ball in the 4th quarter. Runyan told him to keep running. What does Reid do, march all the way down the field, then get to the 20 and call a pass. You run until they stop it.

Lets get real here. Nate Allen sucks. He cant cover, he cant tackle. How many times is my safety gonna get run over. Brandon Graham? Are you kidding me? You went up to # 13 in the draft and he is tooooooooo small. He is useless. D patterson the last few weeks. Looks like a undrafted player. Lindley cant cover me.

Very dissapointed. I drank the kool aid and I really thought with the right breaks this team could make a run. But after watching this defense I realize that this defense stinks and there is no chance for this team to do anything big. Worst redzone defense in the last 22 years in the NFL. This was a sad day.

Finally in the 4th Quarter, Eagles start pounding the rock, running screens and a great effort and play
by Celek on that 3rd & 19 Play and dive for the 1st down which was probably the biggest play of the game.Celek has d a great 2nd half after dropping a TD Pass which could have put the Eagles up
21-3 early in the game..
Injuries, I noticed Justice was injured (looked like an ankle) B Graham was not on the field towards end of the game (his conditioning is still a work in progress and he’s really a part-time player at this stage of his career)
RG Cole was out while MJG replaced him and I thought did a much better job than Cole…
RT Dunlap came in for Justice and held his own and the Screen play worked very well most of the night, I like RB Harrison as a change of pace for McCoy..
DT M Patterson probably had one of his best games of the Season..MLB Bradey played very well
D/Secondary was up and down and gave up too many easy receptions, T Cole continues to disappoint and just play average and LB Sims make some plays…
QB Vick had a great game and had 3-4 dropped passes and was only off-target about 3-4 times all night, though he was lucky on that one out pattern in the flat that was high for if it wasn’t, that could have been brought back for a TD by Texans.. But Vick played a great all-around game, moved around well, read coverages and got rid of the ball quickly and accurately all night.. He also took some pretty good shots (especially in the 1st half)

by the way Paulman and Vinnie

Vick stats….303 yards passing 2 TD’s 1 interception

Sounds familiar?

So to say Vick had a bad game against Chicago was totally ridiculous.

Vick is consistent and as long as he’s putting up these numbers the team will have a chance to win every game.

So don’t hate.

Vick was on tonight and played terriffic as I stated in above post. he had great pace in and out of the huddle, was very accurate and in command.
Last week he ended up with good stats but left too many TD’s and points on the table and held the ball a little too long, tonight he was decisive and much more agressive I thought when he needed to be.If some of the guys would catch the damn ball, he would have better stats and more TD’s..
Those 2 scroing TD Drives in the 4th after they fell behind was great and showed me that VIck can lead this team and offense deep into the playoffs and possibly even a Super Bowl (but the Defense needs to play much better) and once they get Parker,Samuel back, they shoudl be in good shape for the Stretch drive..

If Eagles win 3 out of 4 including a win over the Giants, they will will win NFC East and have a shot
at a Bye Week
The will need to get some players Healthy for the Stretch run (Samuel,Parker,Justice)
Paulman Stars of the Game
Offensively
Vick,McCoy,Celek and strong efforts by D-Jax/Maclin and RG MJG..anyone notice how much better the O/Line played when he was playing for N Cole in the 2nd Half..
Defensively
Mickell,Bradley,Laws with strong games by Sims and both Pattersons

Paulman’s Not so good perfomances
Offenses – J Avant – 2 TD passes Dropped in 3 games,this can’t happen
Defense – N Allen,B Graham,T Cole, Bunkley

Offensive Playcalling improved in the 2nd half when they starting to mix in the runs and screen plays more
Defensive Playcalling was so-so.. we blitzed but getting consistent pressure on Schaub,
Gave up too many 3rd And longs plays which Texans converted into 1st Downs
Committed too many penalties all game long
Would like to see D-Jax attempt to run a punt back.. He’s fair-catching even when he has some room to make something happen
Would rather see RB J Harrison run the ball more and especially before C Hall gets his plays
The D/Line looked a little pooped and leg-heavy tonight,,, T Cole,A Dixon and B Graham appeared
to get winded quickly and not have that explosion off the line of scrimmage as usual..
The absence of J Parker is very imprortant for it affect the complete rotation
Hopefully th esack and forced fumble by N Allen late in the game will get him out of his funk and give him some confidence for the stretch run, since his injury, he’s been a little too cautiuos, arriving late to fill holes or in pass coverage and just is playing agressive or with much confidence.. Hopefully his nice play at the end will give im the boost to finish the season strong .. (RB Foster ran him over a couple of times..)

Overall Grades
Offense – B (Vick,McCoy played great- O/Line struggled mid-game, too many dropped balls)
Defense – C (Inconsisten Pass Rush, too many penalties, gave up too many 3rd Down Conversions)
Special Teams – B (J Calvin had nice returns all game..Coverage teams played well and Akers/Rocca were solid as usual)

As they say, You take them anyway you can get them adn the Eagles Started and Finished strong which was enough versus the Texans.. They had some dropped TD Recptions which would have put them up 21-3 at the time in the 2nd Period and who knows what happens.. cant miss out on these Red-Zone Scoring Opportunites to get 7 Points instead of 3 points..
Record of 8-4 exceeded my expectations as has the play of Vick who now after 6 weeks is the proven leader and face of the Franchise ..
Don’t be surprised if we hear about a long-tem deal signed with Vick to be annouced Sunday..
This is my prediction as they rest up,get healthty and get ready for the final stretch run which has truly been an exciting season to date…

The Defense looked bad, but hey I am going to throw them a bone (anbelieve me I was so mad i had to go to bed before the end), this defense is young, and or new to the team, they played 4 games in 17 days, and most are out of college so their seasons would be over by when you add inthe tempo and preseason etc.

So as I say I am going to throw them a bone, not a steak bone, maybe a chickenbone. They looked awful trust me i am in agreement with you guys (just going to give in a cry about it), even with our defense playing as they are, we are going to just have to find a way to win thats all it is to it.

Paul

Does your TV pick-up games from Mars? Reality TV certainly isn’t available to you.

Last week, you repeatedly said that Vick threw into triple coverage, as he was throwing to Jackson for an interception. Disregarding that the pass was tipped, you called it a horrible read.

Not for one second did you stop to think about how ridiculous it was to “assume” that Jackson was tripled covered. That would have left the other receivers running free like Bambi.

Vinnie originally posted that nonsense, you bit it, and took off running, preaching it as through it were the Gospel.

We all know that Vick was targeting Maclin. Reid and his linemen have admitted that there was a missed block which was responsible for the deflected ball and interception. The “terrible read” that you repeatedly claimed, was completely fictional. (You’re clearly well on your way to a best seller.)

Having been exposed for such fraudulent claims, one would think that you would have a more open-minded view this week. One would think!!!

Instead, you now say that Vick “left too many points on the field.” Last night’s announcers repeatedly pointed out that Vick’s receivers have dropped 5 TD passes in the previous two games.
Soon after making that statement, those same receivers dropped two more last night.

If Kolb had thrown 5 “dropped” TD passes, you’d undoubtedly be in the hospital for a “blown gasket,” and the novel would be on the shelf for a critical investigative piece.

You have the gull to begin your post by saying that Celek had a “great game.” How could he have had a great game when he dropped yet another TD last night? How can begin your post with that statement?

You went on to praise the sun, the moon and the stars, and closed by giving faint praise to Vick, sprinkled with the requisite dose of criticism (3-4 passes off target).

The dropped TDs couldn’t find their way into your post. No room for reality. Those obviously meant very little to the team’s momentum.

You failed to mention the terrible play-calling that had Vick running for his life, yet again.

The horrible defense was clearly a figment of everyone’s imagination.

You made no mention of how Vick led the team to a 4th quarter comeback.

Surely, your “column” would have read differently if Kolb had only handed the ball off 30 times for a 4th-quarter comeback. If that had been the case, you’d be heading up his campaign for President, with full intent of impeaching Obama immediately.

Vick had a great game and was clearly the difference. He absorbed a brutal pounding and lead the team to victory.

I understand that you’re working on your first novel, but I must warn you that it’s beginning to read more like a cartoon.

Vick played a great game last evening, I think I stated that a few times already, Drummer…
He and McCoy were the difference in the game.
The Eagles finished the game strong in the 4th when it counted the most and overcame a 4 point deficit and controlled the line of scrimmage in the final quarter, which I mentioned..
Vick did take a lot of shots in the 1st half and will be sore for the next week, I don’t understand why
they put him in the position to take so many shots and could come back to haunt them if he were to get injured..
I had mentioned the Drop Passes above by Avant and Celek too…
By the way, I make more $$$ on my Cartoons and Fiction stories than I do on Non-Fiction…
abnd I would support “impeaching” Obama immediately and replacing him with just about anyone
not named Sara Palin or a Kardashian..
