DeSean Jackson Misses Practice Because Of A Sore & Swollen Foot

Eagles fans, if you weren’t concerned enough about the Eagles-Giants game this weekend.  How does the news that DeSean Jackson isn’t going to practice today sound to you?

Jackson’s foot became swollen on Monday and he’s got a great deal of soreness in it. He wasn’t able to go today and I don’t know if he’s going to be able to practice tomorrow or Friday.

He injured the foot when a tackler rolled up on it on a punt return in the second half of Sunday’s Cowboys game, but a few plays later he was able to take a pass and go 91 yard touchdown, despite the foot injury.

The new Meadowlands Stadium is a turf surface which is harder on the feet than grass. If you’re having foot problems, you should stay away from turn surfaces.  It might have something to do with why Andy Reid didn’t allow Jackson to practice today, or his injury may be so severe that there was no chance that he was practice on grass or turf.

As far as I know, Jackson wasn’t seen by any members of the media today.  He spent the entire time the locker room was open in the training room.  I don’t know how serious this injury and will be anxi0us to find out more after practice.

You and I know that the Eagles aren’t the same football team without a healthy DeSean Jackson.

G, are you again trying to worry Eagles fans?

“Eagles fans, if you weren’t concerned enough about the Eagles-Giants game this weekend”

Well given that the Giants top 3 WRs may miss the game I’m not as worried as you think or hope. Sorry.

LOL SCORP……. Look we have won games without D-jax in the lineup…….. That just challenges AR and MM to come up with plan B to get this team moving foward…… In other words…. Run the GD ball!!!! we are deadly when we have balance………

Not the same team without Desean? Is that why we beat the number one team in the NFC by 20+ pts? Hmmmmmm…..

Rest him if need be, same with Samuel,
WR’s Copper and Hall can pick pu some slack and I expect Maclin to have a strong game this week
This game versus the Giants will be won in the trenches with the O/L and Running game/Screens
The way the Giants D/Line has been playing of late, which is very good, I don’t forsee Vick having a whole lot of time for Eagles to run many Deep Routes anyways so D-Jax impact is minimized.. Work the middle of the Field vs this Giant Defense at the 6-12 yard area with the TE’s/Avant/Cooper

With Giant Receivers hurting , Nicks at 75% and No Steve Smith and Manningham
The Giants 2nd and 3rd Options at WR will be D hagan and D Thomas, so if Samuel can;t go, CB’s
Lindley/Hanson should be able to hold the fort down.. I would match Up D PAtterson on Nicks no matter where he lines up which is usually the left side anyways
The Big Concern is who is going to cover TE K Boss, who is quietly having a very good season of late and is Eli’s main target on 3rd Down and in the Red-Zone here over the last month or so..

LOL….. I feel you…….. So call best team ATL…….. Outside of that dome they are just average………. We can win no matter the circumstances….. Thats how I’m feeling now……. I’m confident about this squad because we have team unity…….. I’m sick and tired of NE fans feeling confident about the Pats…….. And they have every right to be….. Well damn it i feel confident about our team……… If D-jax doesnt play than dont risk him for further injury……… Riley Cooper who I like will fill those shoes…. And will help on the run block since he’s bigger…… That makes the Giant defensive secondary from playing back so far!!!

regardless of most things, division games are always a concern…..but the Giants fans should be concerned also…..I would tend to believe that DJax will play, but without Bradley we should be concerned about stopping the Giants run game or covering the TE Boss…..I would also hope that we get Samuals & Justice back, so that would be a plus….I am still confident that our team can beat nyone, but we are also capable of shooting oueselves in the foot with stupid penalties, I believe that the keys to the game will be that the Birds provide better protection to Vick and stop the Giants running game….given a chance, Eli will give us the ball, let’s give him a chance!!!

Without D-jax this will make the Giants think twice this game…….. Running attack could be a factor this game…… or do we beat them with the passing which we have proven so!!!! The Giants secondary isnt that good as we know……. THere special teams on Monday was horrible……… I beleive if Favre would have played (healthy) they would have probably won that game or even made it close…… I hate the Giants…….

green I agree. Every week G posts something on here as if he’s trying to get us worried. How about posting some of the things that’s going on with the Giants and why they should be worried? I’d expected him to miss practice anyway because we all saw how he was limping around. Just give him a couple days off and treatment and he should be fine. But please tell us why the Giants should be scared or worried. But not here. I do think it’s possible to point out our concerns as while highlighting the concerns the Giants ought to have. Maybe that requires too much homework. Who knows.

@Greenfan…… Your right division games are important…. And concerns……. I think that avoiding penalties on third down which have been killer……. Extending drives….. this defense will be ranked higher……. But its just the stupid penalties that destroys us……… We can have a team bleeding in water with a 3rd down and 18 and we’ll cause an illegal contact penalty that will murder us!!!!

The keys to this game are just about the same as last week. Stop the run because they will run a lot and good tackling and get 2+ turnovers. On offense, block, block, block. Keep the Giants off Vick and everything else is a wrap.

Top Concerns for the Giants about preparing for the Eagles this week

#1) How does the GIants Interior OL handle A Dixon
#2) How does LT D Diehl (returning from Injury) handle a relentless DE Trent Cole all game
#3) How and does the LB and Safeties play the middle of the field and account for TE/Avant/Cooper
#4) The Eagles are one of the bst Screen teams in the NFL, but the Giants with their speed and athleticism are one of the best teams defending the screen, who wins this battle
#5) Do they put a Spy on QB Vick or rely on pressure from the fron 4 and blitz packages like last game..
#6) Who blocks Special Teamer Colt Anderson who has been making play after play on Special teams
#7) How does Giants Punter handle the pressure, the strong winds for he has been very inconsistnent
this season and could play a key role in determining Field Position in a tight battle
#8) How can the Giants protect the Ball and limit Tunrovers which killed them in the 1st game vs he Eagles (RB Bradshaw and QB Eli has a couple of turnovers each)

FYI – there is nothing wrong with Asante. He is medically cleared to play. Reid is getting rid of him after the season. Remember where you heard this! Reid does not want players on his team that do not want to play. Asante just says he doesnt fell 100% so he isnt going to play: that was what he said last week. I have not heard anything for this upcoming week.

To say that we do not need Desean shows a lack of knowledge of the game. Desean changes the game even when he isnt targeted. He draws so much coverage that Celek and Macklin should be having a field day. Where have they been???? Celek and Macklin need to step up ASAP! If they cannot beat one on one coverage then they shouldnt be starters.

I would agree PW….it was pretty cold the night of the Texans game and our offense did well, but there are those who used to say that Vick didn’t play well in cold weather. I don’t agree with that, but overall, unless you are the Patriots, frigid and windy weather can make a passing offense much tougher to be successful.

But is this really a “new” criticism of Reid’s offensive scheme? There have always been complaints about his offense being wrong for the NFC East, especialy later in the season…..however, in his 12 years here he has had some pretty impressive numbers late in the season…so I guess I just talked myself out of the argument…….we will be fine PW

Early Prediction is 24-13 Giants as the Eagles & Vick play their worst game of the Season which was bound to happen.. The good thing is that the Packers lose to the Patriots (without Rodgers) and the Eagles will have 2 final games at homes vs teams that are packing it in up for the Holidays and win thier final 2 games to still finish at 11-5 and make the playoffs…

Watching a few games in the Meadowlands Stadium, I have seen many players on both sides of the field (Giants,Jets and their opponenets) lose their footing qhuite a bit, It appears that it gets quick slick and that manybe a longer cleat is needed for better traction/footing, especailly is there is going to be any precipitation..

djax, maclin and Vick all played last year in the cold weather games. Wasn’t it djax jogging backwards into the endzone on the cold Sunday night game in the Meadowlands? Or returning a punt return for a TD? Yes. Vick threw the strike to djax on one of the first plays of the game and was very active in that game with a rushing TD. So I’m not worried. It would be different if were a dome team or warm weather team that didn’t play in these conditions often but all of these guys were here last year and jax the year before. They should be ok in cold weather.

Godson — just shutup.

As for Desean maybe missing this game. When are ppl gonna give Andy credit for this system he has in place? This system is built around the TEAM — if one player is out, that doesn’t mean the team is going down hill. As long as we still have a RB that is capable of running the rock effectively and catching out of the backfield, the system is golden.

Over the years, People said we couldn’t win without McNabb — what did we do? Win.

People said we couldn’t win without T.O. — what did we do? Win.

People said we couldn’t win without Westbrook — what did we do? Win.

People have been saying we can’t win or shut down other passing attacks without Asante? What have we been doing? Winning and playing good enough with a rookie FS and rookie DB.

All hail Andy Reid and the system.

December 15, 2010 4:36 pm

Birdo stop it. It’s more of the players than the system. It’s both really. All those players were replaced with other good players. You act like McNabb was replaced by Joey Harrington. This offense isn’t the same without Jackson in their. Not saying we wouldn’t be able to win but it wouldn’t be the same. You can’t just take out Jackson, Maclin and McCoy and replace with Chad Hall, Avant and Riley Cooper and expect the “system” to work. In order for the system to work you need good players. Now if you want to commend Reid for both having good players and a good system, fine. But how did the system work when McNabb went down and Mike McMahon was the replacement? Didn’t work well because he wasn’t good enough to run the system. You need both.

And who said we couldn’t win with Asante? Paulman? We didn’t shut down Houston’s passing game and we played well against John freakin Kitna. I’m pretty sure this secondary wouldn’t get it done against Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers or Matt Ryan in the playoffs without Asante. How’d our corners look against the Bears? Do not go overboard about the system. We saw how Kolb looked against the Titans when there was no Jackson and the “system” didn’t work. You need both, players and a good system. Boy, last week you were going to quit if the Eagles lost to the Cowboys and this week, “All hail Andy Reid and the system”. I guess you go overboard one way or the other. Good luck with that.

BirdoBeamen you act like what I said is not true???? You state the obvious. We all know the system and how it takes a team ect. But we need playmakers. Be real the team/system can only take us so far. When we have elite playmakers in that system then we are legit contenders. Look at the facts we got T.O. and we are in the Superbowl. With Pinkston and Thrash we couldnt get past the NFC Championship.

Desean opens everything up for our offense and its time Macklin and Celek step up and make plays.

Remember the “system” before TO. Didn’t work too well. The offense anyway. It was just good enough but nothing special. Well look what happens when you add talented players to the system. It makes the system look great. Which is how Brad Childress got a coaching gig since he was the OC because his “system” looked awesome with Westbrook, TO and McNabb in their prime. Not so much with Tavaris Jackson running things.

Godson, exactly. You need good players for the system to work. Can’t just plug anyone in their. If we want to give Andy credit, it would be for replacing previously good players with more good players allowing his system to function the way he wants. Not going to sit here and act like we can plug anyone in there and we are still going to win. That’s just dumb.

Most of the news that is reported on this site is old news to me, thats real. I hear about stuff early. I am just saying do not be suprised if Asante is gone via trade during the draft. I love Asante but he is on Reids bad side and he needs to get out there and play with his team.

Also I dont care who wrote the dam article…… Its Gcobb’s site, he cosigns what is put on there. So ultimatly he takes the blame for bad articles.

Scorp — say what you want. But this team has won with James Thrash and Todd Pinkston at receiver. AJ Feeley at QB. Koy Detmer at QB. Jeff Garcia at QB. You think it’s just a coincidence that players LEAVE the Eagles and then look like trash elsewhere? Hugh/Trotter/Vincent/Taylor/Sheppard/Brown/McNabb and Lord forgive me but Dawkins — now I know alot of that has to do with age but still……the system is more important than the player, period.

Will the offense look different without Desean? Of course. But there’s a thin line between a different offense and a less effective offense — like G was trying to make it seem.

I gotta jump in there. I have only one question. How many superbowls has Reid’s system won?

How far did the system get with the James Thrash’s of the world? How far did it get with T.O. in his place? The system is certainly important, but “more important?” If that were the case, why spend money on top draft picks or high-priced free agents?

Birdo, I didn’t say the system was bad but giving full credit to Andy’s system is almost disrespectful to the players. I don’t care who you are and what system you have, it will only take you as far as the talent and execution of the players. And quite frankly, better players execute better. So I think it’s ok to give him credit for the system, but I will not act like it’s only the system that’s allowing us to win games. If Kolb was the QB, we wouldn’t be talking playoffs. You cannot plug anyone in the system and just say it’s going to work. You need good players. And say what you want, but this system has brought forth 0 championships.

Drummerboy I am not hating on G. I like his site but that doesnt mean every article is great; way to sensitive. It is ok to criticise when needed. What are you his son or something?

Birdo – Please shut up about the system. You are right, alot (more like 100%) of the players you named has to do with age. All of those guys were on there way down. I think you need to realize what you are trying to say. Maybee you mean that Reid and the Eagles do a great job of releasing/Trading players before its to late. I think that the Eagles are excellent at getting rid of players right after they hit their peak and have recieved the best they will get from them.

Great players make a sytem Great. Put average players in for Desean, McCoy and Vick and see how much ESPN talks about the team then? I am done with this conversation. System is a great one but will only take us so far; great playmakers will take the team to the next level.

scorpiodsu

December 15, 2010 5:14 pm

AJ Feeley and Koy Detmer were good enough to run the system and Mike McMahon wasn’t. So that tells me that it ultimately has to come down to the players aptitude. Also Garcia was already a pro bowler who ran the same system in San Fran so I wasn’t shocked there. But do you honestly think if Jake Delhomme was our QB, the “system” would work? Come on, be honest. And yes we won a bunch of games with mediocre talent but at some point the system failed and you need more talent to win you the game when other teams figured your system out. And not to mention we had a great defense that was Jim Johnson’s system which only took us so far because we didn’t have enough talent to overcome the limitations of the system.

So in those NFC championship games it was the system that got us there but only the players failed? The system didn’t fail then? Can’t have it both ways. The system ALONG with players have had both success and failures.
