The Speed Of Michael Vick And DeSean Jackson

They were trailing by 21 until the Birds started using their speed to jump start their offense and lead the way in their comeback.  Through the years, there have been many explosive offenses in the NFL, but never has there been a pairing of a speedy quarterback like Michael Vick with a speedy wide receiver like DeSean Jackson.

Either one of them has the speed to turn a game on its ear in an instant.  Pure speed is what both of them have been known for throughout their careers and they were on display for the nation to see, last night in the Meadowlands.

Vick had played with discipline all game long, but near the end he decided he had to dust off the Atlanta version of Michael Vick.  He was looking to run first and throwing if he saw he had the time.

“They just gave us some opportunities. I think, once we made a couple of plays downfield”, Vick said, “I saw the momentum shift. They started playing off – they were playing real deep.”

Vick got pummeled for three and a half quarters, but showed us in the final eight minutes that he can get around the corner and turn on the burners like no other quarterback in the history of the game.

“He has my vote for MVP,” defensive end Justin Tuck said about Vick after the game. “He really showed up in the fourth quarter — more with his legs than earlier in the game. He made plays, we didn’t.”

Jackson reached down and hit his turbo switch when he saw a seam in the New York punt coverage.  He made the Giants coverage unit look like they were running in slow motion.  Just how fast is this little guy.

I’ve heard it said a number of times now that this might be the fastest football team in NFL history.  I don’t know if they are, but I would put my money on Vick and Jackson is a relay race against any quarterback and wide receiver combo in the history of the NFL.

Yes, last night the Eagles speed showed up when they have needed it most.  If I close my eyes I can still see Vick taking off the down the sidelines or down the middle with defensive players inhaling fumes as they run in hot pursuit.

I can see Jackson raising the ball over his head as the New York defenders are left in the dust.

Playing against Vick and Jackson is like sitting with a ticking time bomb in your lap and just waiting for it to go off. The Giants had them contained all afternoon but took their eyes off the ball at the end and the two speedsters exploded.

The pressure is on the defense or the coverage unit each time they get their hands on the ball.  It’s like having a loaded gun aimed at you for hours.  The pressure eventually makes one or more of the opposing players lose their discipline.

“We kind of got into some prevent defenses early in the fourth quarter, kind of a bend but don’t break,” Tuck said. “He didn’t have anywhere to throw the ball on a couple of those plays and obviously him being the athlete he is, he made something out of it.”

Yes he definitely made something out of it by running for nearly a 100 yards in the fourth quarter.  He was breaking the back of New York’s defense with scrambles up the middle and to the leftside.

On one play cornerback Aaron Ross foolishly came inside on a pass rush and Vick made him pay.  Like a blur, the Eagles signal caller sped up the sidelines for a 30 yard-plus run.

“The big runs he was making, that’s unbelievable,” Jackson said of Vick.  Late in the game, Vick was looking for opportunities to run.
One of the Giants safeties couldn’t understand how Vick was getting through the ferocious front four and running so effectively.
“We understand he’s an elite athlete,” safety Antrel Rolle said. “I don’t know how he got free and I would turn around and see him running.”
You could hear and feel the frustration in the voice of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.

“I was thinking to myself like ‘they’re not going to kick it to me,’ ” Jackson said. “I was thinking he was going to kick it out of bounds. But it got to me. From there, I just used my instincts and my speed to get into the end zone.”

Just shows how quick Vick is. Aaron Ross was an all american track star in college at Texas and Vick left him in the dust. Unbelievable how he can take a pounding all game and still have that energy and juice left to make plays. Vick’s toughness is by far his most underrated quality.

Meadowlands miracle part 2: The Jackson Factor

Who did not want to hang andy reid when he did not throw the challenge flag?

His decision not only to do and onside kick, but to disguise it like a regular kick was a masterpiece nobody saw coming.

Early on in training camp, andy said he makes camp hard so he can see which players won’t give up in the end of the season. Give the big guy his props for this one. It took character not to quit in that game. The youngsters and the coaching staff showed in full force yesterday.

I am just so happy that in the midst of Vick being celebrated for his pocket passing skills that he didn’t choose to sit back there and lose the game. He decided that he was going to use everything in his arsenal in order to win the game. He wasn’t going to not run the football just to prove a point. Vick was determined to win by any means, and we haven’t had that around here.

I just heard Andy on his day-after conference and he said that they weren’t getting the replays neither on the field or upstairs and that’s why he didn’t challenge. I’m not sure how true that is but it is what he said.

UNBELIEVEABLE! Just the most amazing game ever witnessed, any sport. Michael Vick literally put the team on his back and carried us to victory in the 4th, Desean Jackson sealed it. My 2 favorite players prevail. It was a great weekend. I was at the Lakers-Sixers game on Thurs. and I got to see my 5 Favorite sports athletes in the building AT THE SAME TIME, Michael Vick, Desean Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins. And then for my Lakers to win…and my Eagles win in the greatest NFL comeback ever!

Now for my TOLD YOU SO……

Now, I told you Michael Vick was the best Quarterback in the NFL. He has been proved that and this game was just an encore to my statement. If Michael Vick does not get the MVP this year, he will have gotten robbed of it. Tom Brady cannot do the things Michael Vick can/does. Brady cannot put his team on his back in the fashion that Vick did yesterday. If the Giants were blitzing Brady like they were doing to Vick, Brady would have been toast. Again, Michael Vick is the best QB in the league. Not an opinion, its a pure fact. WHERE ARE THE KOLB LOVERS? HAHAHAHAHAHA. TOLD YOU SO!

Desean Jackson, like Trent Cole said yesterday, is the best WR in the NFLI don’t wanna hear about he can’t cut across the middle, because he has and he does. He is the most electrifying player in the league as well. Desean can catch 90 yard bombs for Touchdowns, he can catch 10-yard passes and take it 90 yards for a Touchdown! He can return punts 90 yards for Touchdowns! He is the best. So even if you talk about all-around reciever, I just told you why he is the best all-around. He is 3-dimensional (Long pass, short pass, punt returns) Sooo…TO ALL THOSE JUMPING ON DESEAN’S BANDWAGON AND SAID THAT YOU WOULD TRADE HIM FOR VINCENT JACKSON….HAHAHA TOLD YOU SO! DESEAN IS THE TRUTH AND VINCENT CAN’T DO WHAT YOU SEEN YESTERDAY!

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!!!

P.S. Those who were hating Michael Vick and putting him down for what he’s done in his past…I bet they’re on his bandwagon too. They probably feel so stupid now! LOL Like I say, His past has nothing to do with him now. That was his business, not yours.

Dizzy, what about jump balls? What about run bocking? What about catching in traffic? I would say Calvin Johnson is 5-dimensional and the best receiver in the league. Djax can play the long ball well, but a lot of things need to happen before the long ball can even be thrown. And last night was a prime example that when Vick doesnt have time and Jackson is getting jammed, then he becomes 0-diensional and is shut out (Punt returning well doesnt reflect on him as a receiver). He may be the best punt returner in the league, definitely not the best receiver.

Fortunes have gone our way and this is our year.

The backups who replaced starters are better than their predecessors.

Chaney made a play……….when was the last time you heard that from the middle linebacking position…and I’ve been calling for Coleman over Allen since he replaced him at safety with the first injury substitution. We need an intimidating force in the secondary, and while Allen is good he scares no one. Coleman even takes out his own teammates…you seen Boss miss a clear catch over the middle? why? Coleman!

The secondary got better when Allen left the game and it paid dividends on the last Giants possession.

While we don’t want to see injury, we can not argue with the blessings of improved play with their replacements.

Vick

Dixon

Patterson

Chaney

Coleman

are all improvements and speaks to the depth on this team.

I was the first to blast the front office for Kolb over Vick and other questionable decisions but if I’m going to blast them, I must be man enough to give them credit for the players brought in to make this roster..Usually injuries hurt a team, but injuries actually helped the Eagles improve their play on the field. Who could have figured?

And that special teams pick up made the difference..that safety..I forget his name is a demon.

This is the best team in the NFC hands down……….The Eagles will host the NFC championship game.

You heard it here first.

Well I don’t think many people said they would take V jackson over Djax as a punt returner. Anhynow, I’m not going back there with that same argument. That was a great punt return by dajx and one for the history books but I have the same opinion about him now as I did before the game. Most explosive player in the league that I would replace with a few other receivers. But I digress.

I agree Songs, we will have to see more of Chaney and Coleman in my opinion. Probably won’t see a formidable challenge until the playoffs for them. Patterson has some make up work to do because he’s off and on. And when he’s off, it’s terrible. Hopefully he can gather himself together and play more consistently.

Aye one thing was vick’s awareness…….. A few of Mcglyn’s snaps were high and Vick was able to keep his COMPOSURE…….. And make it happen…….

Is Avant becoming the go to man for Vick on 3rd down……. Is McCoy a complete Back….. That Westbrook once was in GREEN…….. The Key Blocks he made to avoid pressure and make Vick get more time in the pocket!!!! What a team.. What a team we have……

If theres one thing Andy needs credit for its having a lot of depth on the roster, especially behind the older guys. And he knows the perfect time to get rid of a player while they still have trade value to let them age elsewhere (McNabb, Dawkins, Trotter, Westbrook and Sheppard to name a few)

MIMITARO……. YOUR 100% correct……. We must move on and let the past be the past…….. If a player has lost a step or two….. It’s time to move on……. Stewart Bradley….. Cant fault the guy after a serious injury last season….. But there is a reliable guy right after him….. Out of two games has 23 tackles/////// Jamar Chaney……… We got Depth like I’ve never seen…… Next year this O-Line will have the same as well!!!

Can’t forget, Maclin two TD’s, and Maclin made some big blocks all game, on Vick runs, Celek TD…Maclin is the real deal, the best all around receiver on the squad….DJAX is the most explosive WR in the NFL! Makes the most dramatic plays of all…Avant, big block to spring DJAX (got hurt on that play) some big catches…Celek, focusing and not dropping that ball, he when he bobbled it..We have the right mix of players at the WR position. Now its time to take care of Minnesota and lock up the EAST!

Aye I know Vick has to write Plexico Burress in prison……. Is it a possibility that the Eagles could sign him???? Maybe he’ll love to come to philly and play with Vick…….. They do have that Va connection and nothing could go wrong??? I just dont want bill cower in the NFC East with the Giants and him trying to do the same that the Eagles took a big risk on in signing Vick??

Watch Plaxico end up with the Patriots who are in need of a big Target at WR to replace Moss,
They currently have a small WR group who may struggle versus the better Defenses down in the Red-Zone come playoff time..
We all know Belichek, he’s willing to get Veteran players a 2nd chance and if Plaxico hasn’t turned the
corner and matured, then Belichek would release him on in a minute if he steps out of line, it would probably be a good spot for him to land if he would return to the NFL..

It’s probably not a good idea to assess a player’s ability based on a few games. I said this during the off-season when some were saying that Kolb would be the next Montana while others were saying that he’d be a bust.

Patterson has looked very good and he’s also looked very bad. Did he look bad because the Eagles employed a zone defense in the first half? He played very well against the Colts. Why is that?

It’s hard to assess a player’s ability if you don’t know what his responsibilities are on a particular play or in a particular defense. If a receiver gets open deep, was it the safety’s job to cover deep or was the corner covering him one on one?

Quentin Mikell and Asante Samuel sometimes switch assignments by giving each other a signal. So, if Mikell gets beat on that play, is it his fault?

Unless you know the answers to questions such as these, it’s pretty much just speculation.

Each receiver has a different skill set.

How would Avant do filling Jackson’s role? How would Jackson do in filling Avant’s?

Avant plays the slot, where there’s a lot of traffic. He uses size and strength to get open and to shield the defenders from the ball. Jackson’s speed creates room for Avant.

Defenses focus on Jackson and double cover him. The same can’t be said for Avant. They both fill their roles well and need each other.

@Drummer

I agree..each receiver has their own skill set, if I can steal AR’s quote, “its a beautiful thing” but Patterson is not making coverage tackles…this is something I felt he was strong in early on…despite what defense is on the field, he has to make the tackle…I totally agree, there are different coverages that the defense played yesterday, so the passes he gave up where the receiver was untouched could be poor communication with the safety, or he just got beat, or it was broken coverage…regardless, he has to make those tackles when the receiver is in front of him…I still feel he is the 2nd best corner on the squad, but he has to get back to what he was doing weeks back….granted everyone is entitled to make mistakes and entitled to a bad game here and there, but if he doesnt bounce back and play solid on Sunday, he should be assessed and rightfully so….

One legitimate complaint I have is not getting WR/RB Chad Hall in the Offense during the 1st half
which would have kept the Eagles closer to the GIants..

You people are a trip…Your talking about Calvin Johnson’s/Larry Fitzgerald’s abilities…Run Blocking, Jump balls, etc. But whats their effect? Is Detroit or Arizona going to the playoffs? Are they more productive than Desean? The answer is No. And they haven’t been since Desean has been in the league. Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Calvin Johnson are amazing players. But neither has the ability to return punts. They damn sure aren’t better than Desean in turning a short pass into a 90 yard TD. And they aren’t better than Desean at catching the long balls either. They block better and can jump, so what? Desean Jackson is the best Wide Reciever in the game. Period. I say it every week. Whats it gonna take for you bastards to believe me? A super bowl vicktory? Well…It shall be done.

I’ve been told you bums before the season even started that Mike Vick was this good! Now that you see it with your own eyes, you’re all on his balls! its just so funny. From Howard Eskin saying Kevin Kolb runs this offense better than anyone to the lames on here saying Kevin should start. You all feel stupid and Im over here laughing my behind off! LOL
