Is Winston Moss The Guy The Eagles Have Been Waiting To Interview?

All of sudden there’s speculation that Green Bay Packers Assistant Head Coach and Linebacker coach Winston Moss may be the guy the Eagles are waiting to interview.

Moss started his NFL coaching career in 1998 with the Seattle Seahawks.  He was a quality control coach, which means he was looking at video tapes for the coaching staff.  He did that for two years before being hired by the New Orleans Saints to basically do the same thing.

He got a break there when linebacker coach Jim Bunting left to take the head coaching job for the University of North Carolina.  Moss was promoted to linebacker coach after Bunting’s departure.   He remained in New Orleans until 2006 when he got a job offer from the Green Bay Packers to their linebackers coach.

In 2007 McCarthy promoted him to assistant head coach.  In 2008, Mike McCarthy fired the entire defensive staff except one person and that happened to be Moss.

He doesn’t have the most impressive resume, but we’ll have to wait and see if he’s the guy the Eagles have been waiting to interview.

The thinking has been that the Eagles have been waiting to interview Packers defensive line coach Mike Trgovac.

I read up on his Bio earlier when ont of the posters brought up his name, He’s not been A Coordiantor
and his been with the PAckers since 2007 as LB Coach and then prpmoted the following year as
Assistant HC/LB coach which is very unusal to have Assistant Title in such a short time in COaching..
I am sure he a great coach with a bright future.. I just can’t see how Coach AR whose seat is getting hotter and hotter with each passing season is going to go with an unproven DC at this time when the direction of teh Franchise and probably his job security is at stake . He needs to bring in a proven DC who has a track record of winning, teaching and developing players..I don’t think anyone believes this is a time for on-the-job training…
Another name that keeps coming back to me besides Trgovac is the Bears LB Coach Bob Babich who has worked for HC Lovie Smith for years with the Bears and the St Louis Rams before that.. His experience is with the 4-3 Coach and with Rod Marinelli on the Bears Staff as the DC & Assistant H/C to Lovie Smith, a DC Position for Babich would be a promotion and a move up for him…
Keep an eye on Babich if Trgovac declines or maybe a real darkhorse could even be Rod Marinelli himself, and then Babich moves up to DC for the Bears.. Marinelli and Coach AR have known each other for a long time and Marinelli went to College and coached out there in Utah early in his career back when AR was in College and is orginally from Southern California where Coach AR is from..
The wheels are turning…

First of all Pman I dont believe Reid is in the hot seat. He will get an extension . Why give him another year with one year left on the contract . Its obvious that this FO puts 0 blame on Reid. If they really are going after this guy its another “Diamond in the rough” choice that this FO likes to try to pull off. They all fail but they keep trying. Should of fired McDermott the day after the loss and brought in Rob Ryan.

Reid is going to step down in a few years to run the front office…. he doesnt want to coach forever…. 15 years will be alot…. Moss is highly regarded around the NFL and almost got the Raiders job last year…. he is a high energy guy who knows defense…..smart guy!

I think Coach AR’s main focus on the short-term is to get to and win a SUper Bowl (At least I hope it is)
I don’t think he can take 2-3 years to be grooming his next replacement.. HE needs a take charge DC who will run the Defensive Side of the ball from day #1 so Coach ar concentrate on the Offense which is his specialty and of working with the Offensive Staff for Coach MM won’t be around for too much longer and AR needs to start grooming another OC and concentrate on improving the Roster with GM Roseman

To Ozzman,
Coach AR has a contract thru the 2013 Season I believe, but if they fail to make the playoffs in 2011, or have a 3rd Season in a row with a “1 and done” or don’t make the improvements with the Defense with this new Staff then come 2012, He will be on the hot seat big time… He has this off-season to get the Coaching Staff right and some new impact players players thru Free-agency on that side of the ball and the have a good draft to keep the team in contention for the future…

i totally agree that coach reids seat is getting hot and he needs to focus on the offense 100% getting vick to read blitz and game planning how to pick up the corner blitz that teams keep sending everyplay and our tackles just keep watching fly by.. i think that reid wants a guy that he can just say “here is ur headphones and whistle see you on saturday as we fly out at noon”. If we get this type of guy i think we will be serious contenders nxt year. im throwing out a darkhorse here let me know what you think. im about 99.98% sure this wont happen but i want my DC search report eagles are waiting to talk to Dick Labeau bc they want to switch to a 3-4 defense and why not get the jim johnson of the 3-4. so when the jets bounce the steelers out today we will talk to him tmrw. Hahahah what you think about that paulman

I would love it phillystohs5
But I don’t anticipate Lebeau going anywhere.. In fact he is probably looking to retire in the near future as he turns this Steeler Defense over to a couple of his long-time assistants..

You guys kill me…. AR has 1 job…. Win a superbowl. I don’t believe he’s on the hot seat unless he flops this year. As fa future goes about andy and not coaching…. If that were his plan it would have happened already.

Pman
I thought his contract was up at end of 2012….but it doesn’t matter. If we don’t balance our offense and take the pressure off our line and QB it wont matter who are DC is. We had a HOF DC and still couldnt win it because we were predictable and pass happy. Vick would have to read the blitz so much if we were balanced. So get ready for deja vu all over again next year. I sure I am wrong though.

wmonell – Just curious. What has the FO done so well that you trust them? I’m not saying they stink but… Haven’t seen anything to make me think the can get it done any more than Reid, who I can’t trust.

If Andy doesn’t win a SB by the end of his current contract, he’s gone! He’s been given more time than anyone else in league with nothing to show for it. Roseman coming/letting Heckert go to another team was beginning of “shakeup” which continued with letting go of McDermott and Segrest. I didn’t want Jauron as DC and didn’t think Eagles did either. He was hired as help to McDermott and secondary which became a total bust. I think you could see MM as successor to Reid if some other team doesn’t grab him. MM doesn’t have “power issues” that Reid has and he’s already got good skill players here, but he needs to show a more adaptive offense and willingness to start using the run more. You can see how important running still is in this post-season.

iggles i would not want tosee MM become andys successor.. to be honest with you i was hoping the browns took MM to go coach there team. i know the birds have broke records the last few years under MM but i believe they could have done better under other OC that actually will get in andys ear and say run run run then pass… I would much rather see chilly come back as our OC.. i would like to see a different AR assistant be his successor and that guy would have to come back outta thebooth.. Yea i am talking about John Gruden and while he was tellin espn that he was packing up his bags to go coach the eagles he could pack up Jaws bags too and bring him in as hisOC…Yea thats what phillystros is calling out.. GO BIRDS.. (phillystros = philly from the eagles and stros from my favorite baseball team the astros= phillystros)

If Andy Reid doesn’t win a SB by the end of his current contract, he’s gone??? Folks what head coach will be available when Reids contract is up??? you dont know! you have no idea, who’ll be avaialble in 2013, and they most likely will not have a resume like Reids….Reid may not have a SB, but he is a very successful coach…
