Chicago starting quarterback Jay Cutler injured his knee at some point in the first half of the NFC Championship game against the Packers and didn’t return in action in the second half. He stood and sat on the Bears sidelines without any crutches or any ice on the injury. He seemed to be a daze as the Bears chances of going to a Super Bowl faded away.
He was being ripped during the game by current players throughout the NFL. Former players have taken their shots at him. I questioned him not going back in the game when it happened. He was quoted during the game of saying he didn’t know when the injury occurred.
To make matters worse for Cutler, the Bears quarterback had tears well up in his eyes when he was told about what his fellow players were criticizing him.
Bears fans are burning his jersey. The guy started the day as a hero in Chicago, now he might end asking to be traded.
Here’s a sample of some of the comments that were made about Cutler.
A former Super Bowl winning quarterback ESPN’s Trent Dilfer went after Culter immediately. “You can play this position (QB) hurt,” Dilfer said on ESPN. “Some of us have.
Maurice Jones-Drew went after Cutler with some cutting words: “Hey I think the Urban Meyer rule is effect right now… When the going gets tough……..QUIT.. … All I’m saying is that he can finish the game on a hurt knee… I played the whole season on one…”
Darnell Dockett basically said he wouldn’t want a guy like Cutler on his football team: “If I’m on chicago team jay cutler has to wait till me and the team shower get dressed and leave before he comes in the locker room!”
Future Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks expressed how he would have dealt with a knee injury during the NFC Championship game: “I have to be crawling and can’t get up to come off the field.
Mark Schlereth, who played for Denver and Washington Super Bowl Championship teams, had no pity for Cutler: “As a guy [who has had] 20 knee surgeries you’d have to drag me out on stretcher to leave a championship game.”
Deion Sanders weighed in on the matter: “I never question a player’s injury, but I do question a player’s heart.” He spent all of last night on the NFL Network questioning Cutler’s heart.
Is all the criticism fair?
He should get this……. Mike Vick was in pain when he twisted his knee late in the game against GB…… When Kolb was warming up getting ready to replace Vick…… And our defense stopped GB…… Vick got up and played the rest of the game……… It is the NFC championship game……. YOU have to play hurt and fight till the end…….. You cant say this about the Phillip Rivers in the league who will go out there and fight till the end……. Cutler just lost faith and gave up on his team……..
Twisted his ankle!!!!!!! LOL
Some guys can play in pain and some guys cant. Lets see what the injury report says first. By what i saw, he should haven played but im still gonna wate for the mri results to come back before i pass judgement
Should HAVE*
Who knows. It depends on what the injury is. By what we saw, it looked like he still could have played. But he did say he couldn’t plant his foot and throw. If that’s the case, then that’s a problem. If he would have went out there and continued to get sacked and throw 3 INTs people wouldn’t have been calling in a wuss they would be talking about how he hurt his team by staying in the game. But again, who knows.
The bears should be happy they went this far………. with a bunch of #3 wide recievers they shouldn’t have went this far….. there defense was solid and it could be time for Lovie Smith to perhaps lose his job as HC…….. IDK but its possible…….. A guy like Gruden would love to be there and coach the bears…………
Jay Cutler may have made the right call. If he can’t plant his foot and ends up throwing 3 picks, they have no shot at winning. I wish a certain safety (Blaine Bishop) would not have tried to be the hero in the Eagles- Bucs championship game (Joe Jerivicious is STILL running). His backup probably would have made the play and maybe the Eagles are wearing a ring from that year instead of the Bucs. Some injuries can really affect the QB’s ability to throw and we cannot judge Cutler because we don’t know how bad it was.
Gruden is happy doing what he’s doing and is not looking for a Sideline Gig..
Lovie Smith Did a great job this entire Season coaching this Bears team to a #2 Seed and to the
NFC CHampionship game with an Inconsistent QB, a terrible OL and a below average WR corps
which made the Eagles D Secondary look like a JV Team..
**** 3 Way Trade Alert *****
Bears Trade QB J Cutler to the Titans
Bengals trade QB C Palmer to the Bears
Bengals Receive QB Vince Young in return
On a side note, Eagles Franchise QB Vick and will have him for next Season
and they also extend QB Kolb to a 4 year dea… (a head scratcher.)
Hey even McNabb threw 4 TDs on a broken ankle. This guy was standing on the sidelines with not even ice on his knee. Pouncey came out with crutches in the PIT game….Cutler didn’t even have ice!! Four letters perfectly describe Mr. Cutler….T-W-A-T!
Without #22 Paulman.Remember that.
Too me the internet has opened it up for all these dudes sitting there a@@es on the couch to yack about other players in the leaugue. Too me i like the fact Urlacher said that. What ever happened too keeping your mouth shut about other players? Critizing his heart through twitter? I’ll be honest…twitter is friggin dumb..i dont give a sh!t what any of these pro athletes think about any of this stuff enough too hear them tweet it. Just saying “tweet it” gives me douche shivers. Sick of all that teenager sh!t. Arent these dudes sposed too be lifitng or something?
If he couldnt plant and throw then he was a liability.True? And if the training staff shut him down then i guess he shoulda put up a fight too get back in?
Bottomline….if im a Bears fan im saying even if Cutler doesnt get hurt we dont wint that game.
TWEET THAT!!
WTF would you ice your knee in 9 degree weather if your not going back in?He was probably so disgusted he couldnt go back in that he refused the ice or crutches. i can see the point in just goign back out there and looking like a bum on a bad wheel. But if your gonna mention about Blain Bishop not giving Mike Lewis a shot cause he was fighting throught the injury…then Cutler may have looked at it the same.
And D.Sanders is a total a$$clown…wtf did he ever fight through any injuries…never cause he didnt tackle or initiate any contact. Best blanket cover guy ever maybe…but he was a flat out p@ssy.
Tweet that.
Whats easier for these analysts(ex players) or current players to do? Bash him for not playing through a possible ligament tear or sprain? Or look at it as a football injury that stopped him from competing at a level above his back-ups?
this is dumb. everybody that is not on the bears payroll or a fan should simply shut up.
the only people this effects or concerns are those involved and that care about the chicago bears.
every injury is different and everybody has their own level of tolerance and recovery.
to get on someone because of injury… ridiculous
give a professional sports athlete the benefit of the doubt
he was one of the most sacked QBs this season, talks trash, gets up hit after hit, he is tough
like him or not, you are ignorant to criticize someone due to injury
its something you all know but are quick to dismiss and open your mouths, everyone…
let me see you workout everyday of your life and be a professional athlete
the physicality, competitiveness, your whole life is into each and every season
walk away from the biggest moment of your career that you put time into since childhood?
absolutely not get real…
get back on the field in noticeable pain, and the enemy smells blood
its hard enough to play football healthy, let alone having a knee injury & playing the 2nd best defense
its funny…didnt jones-drew miss 3 games this season because of a knee injury?
players dissing players…thats either jealousy or hating on someone
ah well, a voice and a vote dont make the slightest difference anyways, til its too late that is…
im off to solve the problems of the world on http://www.infowars.com
“have a great eagles day”
“times yours”
Cutler is a sulking baby who has no heart and should be playing in the arena league…..oh yeah, thats been abolished…. maybe he can play flag football in Chicago.
Just read Cutler has an MCL tear. Well of course it’s easy for people to sit on the sidelines and say how tough they think someone is. But if he couldn’t throw the ball then I don’t know what the hell he’s supposed to do. He would have gotten killed with the blitzing or making bad throws. And let’s be honest he wasn’t playing well on 2 good legs. And I don’t even like Cutler.
I think it’s a conspiracy Scorpion…
In order to protect Chicago’s strong image of tough, hard working, blue collar people
Mayor Daley and Obama’s own Mafia folks are covering up this story and doctoring up evidence to show he has a torn MCL.. My Midwest sources stated that the images of Cutlers MCL tear that they are showing are really those of HOF Gayle Sayres injured knees from over 40 years ago…
One positive though, President Obama is about to name Cutler as the “Czar of the Pouting/Whining Club” once this blows over…
haha paulman good stuff
dont get me started tho i am into conspiracy theories and things of that nature!
paulman – have you ever been to http://www.infowars.com ??
i think lebron james could possibly be a conspiracy theory.
ill elt you think about that before i elaborate!
Ok Paulman. Since I’m not going to be that cynical and quite frankly couldn’t care less, I’ll believe the report that the Bears put out and a conspiracy theory by jaded fans. Thanks though.
Obviously the man was hurt and unable to move, step up and basically protect himself in the pocket..
If it was that severe, they probably should have kept him in the locker room and away from the fans,
and the TV Camera’s/Media..
If it wasn’t for us jaded fans, Football would be a boring sport..
true story
should I??? hmmm…. yea why not drop this little Nuke……
Some of you idiots were SCREAMING for the eaagles to Dump McNabb and go and get Cutler. Some of you were BEGGING for it. I told you he was a loser and a cancer and some of you told me I was wrong. ok… i feel better.
You are right Stevo,
There were some posters who wanted QB Cutler..just like they wanted WR A Bolden and TJ Houzamzadeh and then WR B Edwards, just like many now want the Eagles to get CB Asmagoah and DT Haynesworth…
I have never been a fan of his since he came out of college days and always though he was way over-rated and just not a real leader/inspiring type of QB..
Turned out to be a sprained MCL…..Rivers played with a TORN ACL….
And Erock, it doesn’t matter how cold it is outside, you still ice injuries genius. Or at the very least, don’t walk around on them.
Yes, the MRI showed a LEFT sprained knee, no tear. The left knee isn’t the leg a rightie plants before throw. Cutler appears to have no stomach to persevere when circumstances don’t look good (also Denver). Considering the history of some past Chicago players who played with far more serious physical issues (Brian Piccolo, Butkus, Sayers), no wonder many fans are disgusted.
paulman, I agree. I would have kept him in the locker room. If it was the team’s decision to keep him out the game, I don’t even see what the argument is. He wasn’t playing well and then he got hurt. Don’t even see the point if THE TEAM decided he couldn’t play. Now of course, that’s if the team actually decided that. I mean just stop it. No one sitting home on their couch or blogging on the Internet is in any position to say whether an athlete can play or not. And for the record, a torn ACL can actually be a lot less painful than an MCL injury. River took drugs to deal with his pain. Cutler is a diabetic and cannot undergo the same type of treatment as others. Think for a second people. And I don’t even like Cutler too many people that JUST WATCH the games are quick for questioning someone else’s toughness. And Deion is the last person that needs to talk about toughness with his non-tackling and turf toe. Word on street was he was scared to cover Randy Moss.
This is going to be for him, what a few tears were for Tim Couch. My guess is that he will lose the locker room, whatever they say publicly. He was walking around/standing and generally out of a wheel chair in the championship game. And a strain – come on. Course maybe Smith is the dope here, who knows. Or maybe he got tired of seeing throws off a back foot, knee or no knee injury.
Jay Cutler made the right decision.
Look at all the former NFL players who limp(the bus), hands and fingers are mangled (staubach), can’t hardly walk(namath & the raiders hall of fame center Jim Otto)
Most football players careers end in their mid 30’s. They have to live the rest of their life in that body. You don’t get a 2nd one.
I love football. Played it for a long time. Coached it, the even designed the first round by round draft computer game. But when a player speared me in the back while I was playing in a pro league in Germany, and I laid on the ground praying that my legs would move, I called it a day. I had a wife and 2 kids to raise.
Life is more important than a game. You can get another job. It’s alot harder to get another body.
Good points BSM. If the guys was not such a selfish jerk, probably more people would give him the benefit of the doubt.
BSM….in the regular season, I’d agree with you. NOT one step from the Super Bowl. He’s a candy ass!
Mjacobs45……….LOL
