Donovan McNabb got torched all week after his benching but responded with a great performance.
Still I don't know if McNabb knows who he is. I know Reid doesn't really know what he has in McNabb but Donovan has to know what he does best, so he'll be able to get himself out of funks.
On Thursday night, he made quick decisions. He got the ball out of his hands. He took what was there. He kept the sticks moving. McNabb didn't try to do too much.
Did you notice McNabb using his legs tonight?
He was doing the things he does best, not trying to be the stereotypical pocket quarterback. I'll give Jeff Garcia credit that he knows who he is. He knows he must use his legs to make up for defiencies he has with his arm.
When McNabb got the opportunity to run, he took it. This creates problems for defenses in their coverages and with their pass rush.
He still missed some throws because he didn't set his feet properly, but his movement kept the Cardinals off balance. McNabb is going to miss some throws every game he plays, but he can't off set his lack of accuracy by creating plays with his legs.
McNabb must also get to the point where he realizes that he doesn't need to always throw a fastball. If he takes something off the ball it will make him more accurate.
Donovan needs to play to his strengths and not try to exactly emulate Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. McNabb can work magic out of the pocket, Manning and Brady can't do that. They're better pure pocket passers than McNabb, but so what he can escape the pocket and create problems of defenses. They can't do that.
McNabb has to know who he is regardless of what kind of game Reid is calling.
He was sharp with his short throws because he set his feet properly. The fact that they were running the ball well opened up the throwing lanes.
