(Video with audio in this article) Eagles team President Joe Banner sits down with Dave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com to talk about the plans the Eagles have going forward. Banner starts out talking about slapping the franchise tag on Michael Vick and the transition tag on David Akers.
He also talks about the unprecedented move of selecting Juan Castillo as the team’s defensive coordinator. He calls all of these coaches quality people and says the team is looking for the difference that will put them over the top.
Joe was most troubled by the loss to the Minnesota Vikings, which really hurt them in the playoffs.
He talked about how they’re preparing for the CBA.
He said they’re going to be realistic and optimistic in free agency.
He said they have three pools of ways to get better, free agency, the draft and developing their own players. Banner praised the work of Howie Roseman and the job he did in the 2010 draft.
One of only three teams which made the playoffs the last three years.
Banner singled out what are regarded as the two best line coaches in the NFL new defensive line coach Jim Washburn and new offensive line coach Howard Mudd.
Joe said it was difficult for him to watch the playoffs especially the Super Bowl because that’s their goal to win it all. He said he didn’t have the words to express how they feel about failing to win a Super Bowl up until this point.
Here you can check out what Joe had to say right here:
I live in MN…. im still really bothered by it too!!!!
All because of 5-6 Inches of Snow..Was Gov Rendell Correct ????
This was the entire Eagle Community let-down..
The talk of Vick as a potential league MVP was at it’s highest pitch, the local and national media were all talking about a player and Team of Destiny and the players, coaches and fans all continued to drink the Kool-Aid..
What the great Comeback against the NY Giants did was exhaust Vick and beat him up more physically where he became simply average for the remainder of the Season. The Eagles cannot win with an average Vick when they are imbalanced as they are offensively.. He has to play great if they are to have a chance of winning which is hard to sustain over a long period of time
paulman – blue balls, the stars seemed to have finally aligned with us
there is one little thing we had to do before it was out time
that will be this offseason, banner said were heading into free agency realistic and optimstic
to me, that sounds like good news
pay for stars like nnamdi, posluszny, dont overpay guys like de ray edwards
but pay a little extra for a player like nick barnett or jared gaither
I also feel good after this interview. No coolaid drinking here but hopefully thing will get better.
They might have speed but they can’t cover well.
Maybe focus on players that can tackle with talent.
O-line, Corner, D-line,
I would even address the wide receiver position late in case Jacksons leaves.
Draft will build for the future but we need to win now.
Shiller must have a chubby reading this article….
why do you say that ozz? I found the article bland and fully of lip service. Remember that the only proof that I ‘blindly support the FO’ is that I often take issue with some of the weak or unreasonable criticism. I’ve never stated that I like the FO or what they usually do.
Just cause Paulman and Big E say something, doesn’t make it true.
I need help. I have asked many times this question. If Kevin Kolb stays next year does than mean he walks without the Eagles getting ANYTHING for him. So the DUMBEST thing in the world would be for the Eagles to keep him. You get no draft picks no nothing he would just walk. I dont know why there is a debate about him staying. Is this true or not?
Glad he’s bothered but I’ve been saying it all along.
Kicked a ton of people out last year.
Kicke a ton of people out this year.
Contract or no Contract, Andy’s time is running short.
Running..
Running… Ironic.
Bsm – and the proof that his time is running short is what? People reading into Joe Banner comments? You’re taking the bait
Banner on 610 right now, what a joke, just compared the eagles ” long sustained success” with the steelers, suggested eagles more successful because more playoff appearances, made it clear he and organization completely behind Reid, complete propaganda, many here will buy into it, you know who you are….
I would love to see the eagles go after the jets cornerback instead of oaklands. I know the cornerback from Oakland will com and a boatload of money but if we signed the corner from the jets we could use some of that extra money on another position.
I doubt
CB’s I would like the Eagles to Purse due to costs and their familiarity with
teams in the NFC and opposing teams Offenses and WR’s
#1) Carlos Rodgers from Redskins
#2) Richard Marshall from Panthers
#3) Ike Taylor from the Steelers
A long shot would be Terrance Newman from the Cowboys who I think will
be released and would be a 1 year band-aid player until LIndley or another
Draft pick is ready to take over in 2012.
I doubt Joe was as discussed as I was watching this team throw away a chance at that top seed and a bye all because they failed to make any adjustment at all to a corner blitz and got be time after time.I read a article today where someone was predicting the eagles trade out of the first rd to get more pics.Dont ever be stupid enough to think that is about getting more pic’s,that is about saving first rd signing bonus money and that is the kind of thing that happens when you name one of the teams accountants as your (GM)top player personnel guy.It was also Howies choice to go for a undersized defensive end instead of a guy I see as a pro bowler for years to come in Pouncey. This team will struggle in the draft as Howie Roseman has a say in who is chosen.
