The Philadelphia Eagles continue to snoop around quarterback prospects in this year’s draft. Adam Kaplan of Foxsports says the Eagles worked out TCU quarterback Andy Dalton last week.
I think the Birds are looking at Dalton and Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick because they might draft one of them if they get the chance to trade Kevin Kolb. If they get the injunction and are allowed to trade Kolb, they’ll have the option of acquiring a veteran quarterback or drafting one in the second, third or fourth round.
Dalton is a guy who fits the west coast offense. He’s said to be a bright young man, who will be able to comprehend the system quickly.
The best thing I could say about Dalton is that this young man knows how to win. TCU was 42-7 in his four years as a starter. In the three bowl games which he played Dalton was the game’s MVP. That means he can rise to the occasion.
Dalton doesn’t have a cannon for an arm but he’s very accurate. He fits the west coast offense because he had a 66.1 completion percentage.
The young man threw for 2,857 yards in his final college season, along with 27 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Those numbers say that the young man knows how to take care of the football.
His size is okay at 6’2″ and 215. Plus, you’ve got to like his athleticism because he ran for 435 yards and averaged 5.1 yards per carry.
G:
And if he gets drafted by the Eagles, you, G, will question his fitness to play in the NFL to the exclusion of the said strengths listed…just kidding.
I think QB’s A Dalton, C Ponder & C Kaepernick will make the best NFL QB’s from this Draft Class and it will take 2-3 years before they are ready to be starters, but these 3 have a lot of intangibles, big hearts, winning attitude to be leaders and a toughness and are more athletic than they appear
I think the big QB names (Gabbert,Newton,Locker & Mallet) in this Draft are going to struggle in the NFL and not have as productive careers as the first 3 I mentioned
Dalton is no better than Mike Kafka. I dont see the Eagles drafting a QB until round 4, that is, IF they are able to deal Kolb.
I believe Dalton is one of the worst out of this group of QBs. If I were a team, I would go with Ponder 1st and then maybe Locker or Newton. Ponder to me looks like he could be the real deal, esp if he increases his arm strength.
Dalton is much more athletic than Kafka, not a good comparison
Kafka reminds me more like a AJ Feely, a stand in the pocket, decent arm and accurate.. Where Dalton can scramble and make some players with his legs.
Dalton just wins games and protects the ball while doing it….
