I’m an idiot and needed to remind myself that this is something special.¬† I’m very proud of the Phillies whether they lose to the Yankees or Angels (just kidding, the Angles have no shot) or win it all.¬† They’ve made the playoffs for three straight years, been to two World Series and won at least one of them.¬† That’s phenomenal.
Remember when this city couldn’t buy a championship?¬† Remember when the Phillies were so dreadful that they were mathmatically eliminated every year in late April?¬†
That was before Utley.  Before Rollins.  Before Howard.  Before Hamels (eck, I had to say it because of last year, but jeez dude).  Before Lee and Victorino and all of them.  Including former nobody Jayson Werth.
That’s right, Southern California got rocked by a Werthquake last night.¬†¬†
The Cardinals had a great team.¬† But, pitch around Pujols and Holliday and you might be ok.¬† The Dodgers couldn’t get enough people on base when they hit their home runs and they turned out to be harmless solo shots.¬† But, pitch around Howard and Utley.¬† Go ahead.¬† Here comes the Werth.¬† And Ibanez.¬† Maybe Ruiz.¬† Chooch is a problem in the playoffs too.
This lineup is absolutely filthy and I had to remind myself that what we are seeing is special.  G. called Howard the best power hitter of a generation the other day.  Tough to disagree with that.  A few more years like this and Utley could be the best second baseman of all time.  Rollins can be frustrating, but when the games count, he finds ways to contribute.  The starting pitching has for the most part been excellent.  The bullpen has gotten their act together in a way that nobody would have imagined a month or so ago.  How about Chad Durbin last night?
This team is stacked and we need to remember how special and rare this is.¬† From Howard’s series-clinching double against the Rockies, to J-Roll’s two-out double in Game four to last night’s Werthquake.¬† This team is special.
The sad reality is though, that for this season, the Yanks just might be a little more special.  But forget all that for now.  As of right this moment, the Phillies are by far the best team in town and Рwin or lose in the World Series Рare doing something that will be remembered for years in Philly.
Congrats to the Phillies.  They earned it.
