Don’t buy the hype, the legacy and history of the New York Yankees has nothing to do with which team is going to win the upcoming World Series.
The announcers are going to go on and on about the accomplishments of the New York franchise and the 1950 series which saw the Yankees sweep the Phillies.
If the Phillies attack them and get the timely hitting and pitching that they have had in the first two series, they’ll beat the Yankees in five or six games.
I think we’ll find out a lot about which team is going to win the series from the first game. It’ll be former Cleveland Indian teammates and lefties Cliff Lee versus C.C. Sabathia.
If both of them pitch well it will basically signal a close series, but if one of them faulters, chances are they’re going to greatly damage their team’s pitching and chances of winning the series.
So far in the playoffs both of these hurlers have been dominant.
Of course the Phils need to continue to get the outstanding outings by Lee, but the Yankees may be even be more dependent upon Sabathia .
Lee has been a breath of fresh air to the Phillies staff and each time he pitches he gives the bullpen a break. The same is true of Sabathia for the Yankees and he’s been able to pitch with only three days rest.
Whichever pitcher has the highest numbers of quality starts during the series will probably become a World Series champion for the first time in their career.
