Philly can start the Vince Young rumors

As you may or may not have noticed, the Tennessee Titans soured on Vince Young a long time ago. A petulant headcase who hardly screams “leader,” Young completely wore out his welcome in Tennessee.

So, today they made him a free man and cut him. And a source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter that VY “already was eyeing” the Philadelphia Eagles a potential destination. And some around the league are apparently saying that the Eagles are the “favorite” to land his services.

Whatever that means.

I’m personally okay with Young as a backup. Do I want to enter the season with him as a starter, and rely on him to not throw his shoulder pads into the stands and have to be coaxed to go back out and play the second half of a playoff game that I’m winning? No.

VY has some issues, that we know. But what about as a backup? I’ll take him all day over Mike Kafka, who is just not ready to backup an injury-prone player who admits that he doesn’t know how to slide.

However, Young has demonstrated an ability to win games. And isn’t that what you want out of your backup QB? Just give me a chance to win while we wait for Vick to heal.

Sad to say, but Young might just be the Eagles best option at this point to back up Vick. And maybe a fresh start is exactly what he needs. Remember: QB’s tend to play their best football in Philly, so who knows?

Oh, and don’t forget the Jim Washburn connection. That has absolutely nothing to do with Young whatsoever, but everyone seems to just throw that out there for every other player, so I thought I’d use it here to.

Hahaha good one micah… I could see this a mile away, VY will be an eagle… i just finished talking to a cowbow fan and theyre scared to death of this because of the ability young has, he sure can win you games…. and think about how he can escape the pocket and has a rocket arm, those long down the field passes to maclin and jackson… man… they wouldnt miss a beat if VY had to start… Eagles should go and sign this man when they can…

I say sign him ! Why not? He can come in, Sign a 2yr contract like Vick did, learn from the best QB coaches in football and at the end of the year we can probly get a high pick for him, Everybody wants to say how immature he is and might be a locker room problem but i think the oppisite, I think hes a young guy who has much respect for Vick like the rest of that generation and will listen to him and follow his lead which is something he never had before.

HEY, if he continues to take his Lithium & depression meds, & doesn’t try to off himself again, he might be OK. COME ON! GIVE ME A F^@KING BREAK! We don’t need the QB version of Shawn Andrews. Why is it that because Andy got lucky with Vick, we are now rumored to get every f^@king head case!?!? Case in point Fat Albert, Burress, Young, Moss, Bush Etc. GTFO!!!!

I am okay with it. Guy has talent, maybe he needs the “QB Makeover” that the Eagles do so well. Coach him up, maybe he helps the team in limited action, score another second round draft choice for him in a year or so. The Birds need extra picks to compensate for the ones that do not work out.

To be honest, I don’t think the Eagles have the time right now to babysit and try to re-hab VY as a back-up QB..Bring in a pure Veteran like M Bulger who can at least operate the WCO or a younger, focused mature QB like a Troy Smith or a Dennis Dixon who at least have some starts under their belt to be the #2 QB .Too many distractions with VY right now and with the shortened off-season and camp time, the Eagles are just not in position to spoon feed or worry about the phyche of VY..

July 28, 2011 9:13 pm

Eagles released L Weaver (failed his Physical) as expected
Also Jeff Owens, Jeremy Clark, Keremy WIlliams, & Gerard Lawson from their active Roster…Both B Graham and W Justice are on the “PUP” list which again is no surprise…
I hope the Eagles can hire L Weaver as a mentor and maybe a Coach in Training for RB’s/SPecial Teams or something for he is such a positive guy and it’s a real shame this happened but he had 3 Surgeries on that Knee and suffere subsequent nerve damage so his playing days are unfortunately long gone…

Paul, i know you wanna stick to your “list” but troy smith? Dennis Dixon? Bulger? How many times are you gonna say those names ugghh please just stop… i know you wasnt expecting his name to surface but just throw the list away… VY would be dynamic, its not baby sitting…

As Paulman mentioned I think they would sign him if they had a full camp to fully work with him, if Vickis injured in the first game do they feel confident with VY? I also see Reid’s relationship with Jeff Fisher play a part in this, I just don’t see a positive conversation there. I think he would be the best option though…

After all the moves today including the cuts of Weaver etc..the Eagles have 19,114,934 million of cap space left that they have to spend for the most part.

They had casey mathews playing the middle today with the number 1s..I like this kid think he’s going to be a real player but go get a stud at the position..especially when there is one out there that has played in the system Washburn is going to run. Its time to pay some cash for a linebacker

All day over Kafka? We know nothing about Kafka other than he looked good at preseason last year. I’m so sick of you guys hating our backup qb’s. I remember you guys all bitching about garcia and then you completely changed your tune. You should all go and run our government you would fit right in with all the other wafflers.

RTB – I work for the gov – but I get your point. I would want a serious veteran QB there along with Kafka and the Johnson kid for the practice squad.

DD – come on – Garcia is a gamer, a scrapper. Every time he played with or against the Eagles he always did way better then expected – … yeah – probably should get someone like Bulger. Isue is finding someone happy to be a two year back-up

Songs – how does Belichick do it – simple – he’s a dick. A winner, a champion but a dick. He is going to do it his way, with his people and if he doesn’t like you or you cross him, your gone – and he will cheat. He is ruthless and cutthroat – he doesn’t care what anyone thinks. He also happened to draft and develop one of the greatest (in the top 3) QBs of all time.

He is probably the best HC in the NFL – shame he already has a job – maybe we can trade for him –

Name the last Sport Franchise in the City of Boston to have won a Championship in the 4 Major Sports..
Eagles need a veteran who is happy to be a back-up but be a team player, and Bulger fits this bill perfectly, If you need or want more athleticism than a Troy SMith/Dennis Dixon come to mind.. How about Lions Back-up Shaun Hill…
Vince young is used to being the star and center of attention and probably not mentally suited to be a back-up and especially with a reputation of not studing working hard on the playbook, video room, etc,etc.. Eagles don’t need him anywhere need NovaCare and I will say for the umpteenth time, If Vick were to get seriously hurt, the Eagles chances would go done the drain anyways.. .
Also the Phils drop 2 of 3 at home versus the light hitting SF Giants..ooh and the Phils outscored them 9-8 in these 3 game series which does not bode well if moving forward if they don’t get another Bat in this line-up.. They wasting strong PItching performances by Hamels last night and Kendrick pitched well enough to get a W when he was in there.. ..

Songs your really starting to make my shit list.. SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
every professional analyst thinks #1 The Patriots are idiots for signing these two guys and #2 the eagles made outstanding moves to improve their team.

How in the shit of all shits can you argue and say we didnt get value for Kolb? we got a 1st round talent and a 2nd round pick for a back up qb!!!

Then we sign a guy that had 12.5 sacks last season!! and we’re still not fucking done!! are you just fucking dumb or a retard?

Is it just natural for philly fans to act like this? shit… Its like I buy my wife a 4 ct. diamond silver ring and she throws it back at me and say she wanted platinum

beleicheck is the best at what he does for he finds players talents and skills and schemes on how players can play to their strengths in their “system”, he remains flexible enough to adjust his schems and formations offensively and defensively based on his personnel and of cousr the match-ups presented by him opponents.. I personally don’t care for the man very much but he is one hell of a coach and talent evaluator and he will probably squeeze 1-2 Good productive seasons from both Haynesworth and OChocinco but there is only 1 Beliechek who can do this. I am sorry but Coach AR is not in his league at all when it comes to utilizing his personnel.. COach AR has a system and sticks players in to sink or swim… We saw a perfect example of Babin, Clemons whp then move on to other teams and scheme and they become double digit Sack artisits.. We see RB’s over the years being put into a system to be like Brian Weastbrook when there was only 1 Westbrook but he tried to make players like Moats,Booker, T Scott, C Scott be something that they are not instead of utilizing what talents they do have..

Give me Billy Volek as a backup over Vince Young

Navy..Obviously Tulloch is the guy I’ve been hoping the eagles to get for a while now. He tackles everything and is very good in coverage. There are other teams going hard after him tho like the Lions so he will not be cheap but def worth the cash and would finally give us a stud at the position for the next 5 years. PP got his deal for 7 mill a year so I’m assuming Tulloch is looking for more than that unless he really wants to play here.

Rudd or even Nick Barnett would be an upgrade tho

You guys are not looking at the reality.. Albert H. is a guy that only last year was outta shape and lost respect of his teammates to the point where they put him on blast.. The Pats still take on his big contract btw.

Ocho stinko cant play anymore he is the most overrated WR in the league right now. His last good season was 3 years ago and was a crying bitch cause TO was getting the ball more. Congratulations Patriots you just signed two of the biggest pre madonna’s in the NFL.

Belichick oddly has not won a Super Bowl since he got bagged cheating … hmmm. They miss on just as many draft picks as anybody else, without cameras to tape opponents’ practice sessions and spies in the locker room, they are just like anybody else. If the Eagles brought in these guys, people would scream they were garbage picking for players and not willing to pay.

I had to rethink this. Young had a coach in Tennessee who didn’t want him. Things will be different because he will learn how to deal with the media through Vick and learn how to play QB through Reid and staff.
