All of you who are looking forward to the Eagles running the ball more, forget it because it's not going to happen.
Yes the Birds have better run-blocking offensive tackles now with Jason Peters at left tackle and Shawn Andrews at right tackle but they're not going to run the ball any more this year than they did a year ago.
The hopes are they will be able to run better. You and I know that Andy Reid isn't going to run the ball more, now that he has additional speedy receivers.
They must be able to run the ball when the other team knows they're going to run it. Third down and one, third down and two, are short yardage situations where you need to be able to enforce your will on the other team.
The same situation occurs on the goalline. They must be able to pound the ball for one or two yards for the touchdown. A dominating running game will open up play action passes on the goalline.
Finally Reid's formula for winning is to throw the ball in the first half to get the lead, then run it more in the second half to run out the clock and preserve the victory. The Eagles must be able to run the ball in the second half when they have the lead.
The other team knows they're going to run but hopefully their big physical offensive line is able to dominate and enforce it's will on the other team.
If you're expecting the Eagles to the run the ball more, don't hold your breath.
