Andy Reid On 610-WIP

Andy Reid was on 610-WIP this morning being interviewed by Angelo Cataldi.

Cataldi asked him about making the decision to draft Jeremy Maclin as opposed to going after the Cardinals Anquan Boldin.

Reid said he didn’t believe the Cardinals really wanted to trade Boldin because he’s still with Arizona.  Reid said that a player the quality of Boldin would have been traded somewhere if they really wanted to trade him.

He admitted to talking to the Cardinals about Boldin.

He thinks Arizona was going through the motions to placate Boldin but really weren't interested in trading him.

Reid said that Jeremy Maclin caught his eye on video tape.  He saw a smart kid in Maclin with great speed and athletic ability.

Big Red saw him run go routes, hitches, underneath crossing patterns on tape and felt comfortable about him adapting to the west coast offense.

He mentioned that he's got to learn to run quite a few other routes in the west coast playbook.

Reid saw that he was a big kid, with great abilities to make plays after the catch.

Reid said he’s a young kid and he expects him to get ready to play right now.

He also praised LeSean McCoy the young running back who will be backing up Brian Westbrook.  Reid said he’s very young but he’ll be fine.

Reid spoke highly of all the draft picks and feels they have the abilities to be great players but he wants to see them get hit and beat up in training camp.

Reid then talked about Cornelius Ingram and mentioned that he was the team captain for Florida.  He was a pre-season All-American and he played college basketball for a Florida team which won the National Championship.

He’s a tremendous athlete who picked things up very well.  He’s a former quarterback who can handle the mental part of the offense.

He comes from a spread offense and played the tight end position in it which equated to being a big inside slot receiver.

Nobody has seen him block except during spring practice
