Backing Up LeSean McCoy is No Problem for Ronnie Brown

Anyone who has followed Ronnie Brown throughout his football career knows that the Auburn alumnus can find success in a split backfield. At Auburn, he was paired with Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, who recently signed with the St. Louis Rams. In their final season together, the two combined for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The transition from college to the life of an NFL running back placed him in a similar role. At Miami, Brown spent many of his years with another talented halfback, Ricky Williams. In 2009, the two combined for 19 touchdowns and around 1,7500 yards.

So playing in a backfield alongside another running back of equal skill is second nature for him.

“I think just the way that things have gone in the NFL it’s kind of progressed to two backs and being able to utilize two different guys because you try to stay healthy for the long haul which is trying to get to the postseason,” said Brown. “And I think that’s been beneficial that I’ve been able to play with two caliber guys like that, Carnell [Williams] in college and Ricky [Williams] throughout my career in Miami.”

Now, Brown joins a backfield that features one of the best runners in the NFC, LeSean McCoy.

“I think it’s going to be good having LeSean and LeSean having me, I think it will be a great opportunity, as well as for some of the younger guys. So just being able to do that and mix in and keep everybody fresh throughout the season and the game,” said Brown.

In his press conference today, Brown expressed his enthusiasm in building chemistry with McCoy, just as he did with Ricky and Cadillac Williams.

“I look forward to building a relationship with him and trying to go out and win some games,” said Brown.

As for his future once his one-year deal in Philadelphia expires, that’s a different story. Brown would like to be a featured back again before his career is over, but for now, all his attention is solely on bringing a championship to Philly.

“Right now my focus is on this season and what I can do to help this team win and whatever comes out of that that will be good. But I think this is a good situation, a good opportunity for me, and we’ll just kind of take advantage of this right now and then whatever comes of that we’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it,” said Brown. “But right now my focus is on helping the Philadelphia Eagles win.”

Hopefully, Ronnie Brown’s “Team’s-First Attitude” and Professionalism will rub off on some of the other Players as well… and hopefully Coach AR will utilize him a whole lot more than other Back-up RB’s in recent years..

The key to any success with Ronnie is on Reid getting out of his own way and recognizing what type of impact back he has. A healthy and utilized Ronnie Brown is by far the best back on this team. No offence to McCoy.

His first couple years out of school, yes possibly.
Now, after multiple injuries including ones to his knees, not a chance.
Good solid pickup, but not nearly as good as mccoy right now.

Injuries aside, Ronnie Brown is a superior back. I submit if he wasn’t splitting time with a back the caliber of Ricky Williams, His number and impact would be more pronounced. LeSean is a very good back. But only on a team run by a coach adverse to a consistent ground game (Reid), would he start before a “Healthy” Brown. We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Peace.
