Patterson Has AVM, A Rare Vein And Artery Condition

The Eagles are going through a tough time right now when it comes to the health of their football team. We’ve learned from ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson, has AVM, Arteriovenous Malformation.

I know you’re wondering what is AVM. It’s is a very rare, abnormal and/or poorly formed connection or tangle of veins and arteries that have a higher rate of bleeding than normal vessels.

He may need to undergo surgery or radiation treatment.

Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder will talk to the media after practice about Patterson’s condition.

This sounds like something that is career ending with the chances of bleeding in the brain.

Not familiar with this condition and hope that medication can regulate it where he can continue to play football, but my main concern is him being ok and having a normal, productive & active life and if that means not being able to be a Football player, then so be it.. Put your Family,Faith and Health before everything else and wish him the best

This cat…some things are more important than football…to worry about who we traded as a result of this news, is WACK!!

Not quite the whole story yet. This is the statement from Paterson’s agent.

“Media reports are not accurate. Mike has not yet decided on surgery. He has not received an official diagnosis of a brain AVR and is continuing to be evaluated by multiple doctors. Once we know the course of treatment and timetable for recovery, Mike and his wife Bianca will decide how to proceed.”

My brother have an AVM and when he was 16 he had a cerebral hemorrage at Dorney Park.

If this is the same condition it can be treated but his football days would be over.

He could not take a hit to the head as it could cause grand maul seizures and what he had.

Best of luck Mike.

I mentioned the trading of Bunkley over Patterson being a mistake last week to JH back when the trade ocurred, just because I felt that Bunkley’s game would fit better under Washburn’s Schemes than Patterson’s which has nothing to do with this incident.. I may be crass at times, but I do have a little class….

This almost sounds like a Anuserism type of deal and sounds like it may be difficult seeing him play Professional Football again..

Surgery can probable correct this condition but will end the season for him.

Patterson was probably lucky this happened while at camp where Doctors were there to repsond right away to assist and controll the situation.. How about if he had a siezure while driving or at night when sleeping… See how things in life can change on a dime and without any notice….

And people wonder why we keep signing guys… We have multiple injuries per year and weve shown that we cant overcome them… the packers did because there talent was deep on that team… so the eagles had to infuse this team with more talent at every position and they did just that… So guys that arent eagle fans can complain all they want, we know what were doing…

Can’t see this guy playing this year at all..Hopefully the injuries to Dixon and Laws are not serious…Dixon hurt his knee but the reports were that it wasn’t serious…G do you know more about this?

Just read that Victor Abiamiri has a torn ACL and his season is over. Things along our D-line are not looking great only 1 week into practice. While he wasn’t a starter he still provided depth and was at least familar with our system as well as still being young and having something to prove. It’s a good thing we’ve signed so may contributors because we’ll need everyone if the players keep dropping like flies.

Les Bowen just said Victor Abriami just tore his ACL…This guy might be the most injury prone player I have ever seen

EE u just beat me to it LOL…I wouldn’t worry too much tho about Abiamiri..this guy would of gotten hurt anyway and even if he didn’t he prolly couldn’t play anymore when healthy due to all his injuries.

Laws and Dixon appear to be fine for the regular season which is still more than a month away..I still think they should add some depth there tho

I was just more worried about the additional reps that all the other D-line guys will need to take wile these guys are out. That just increases the chances that another D-line injury will occur. The more camp bodies the better.

Next to Jerome McDougle you mean, who at least gave a 100% effort when he was healthy to play.. I never got the sense the Abriami was 100% committed to playing Professional Football (which was a knock on him coming out of Notre Dame about his drive and waork ethic).. Time to close that chapter .. What’s up with Ricky Sapp ..

I saw Ricky walked out on camp. Also heard that he did it last year…so who knows what were going to get from him.

Sapp is another player mis-drafted like Gcogong, Bryn Smith, and probably Teo Neisham will end up . These guys are stand-up, QB Rushers better suited for a 3-4 Scheme and are not big, strong enough to play with a hand on the ground DE in the NFL..
They also are not good enough in pass-coverage which is why they can’t OLB in the NFL so they are really on a team and scheme that has no place for them..

Both DT’s picked up yesterday are good solid players.. I like Landri alot and think he has a great chanc eto make the squad once he gets up to speed and allowed to practice..

I agree Paulman they both have excellent presence in the three point stance. Question marks on their performance lately though. They have a good solid skill set. My sources throughout the universe tell me they will be good pickups. Zoltron one of my sources in the milky way have noticed increase production in camp. This means they will have between 4 to 5 tackles throughout a game.

It’s ashame, but stick a fork in him! That can be life threatening. Especially in a sport with alot of helmet to helmet contact. It’s a disease that one is born with. It’s a cluster of veins & nerves in the brain &/ or spinal cord at the base of the brain. Symptoms- Migraines & Seizures. In extreme cases can cause bleeding & aneurysms. It is operable.
-Per a Neurologist on DNL.
That concludes his career here.
Good luck, Mike. God Bless!

Like paulman wrote – thank goodness it happened where he received immediate medical attention instead of someplace else or while driving etc.

This sucks for the D but, here’s hoping he has a healthy productive future even if it’s not as a professional athlete.

JAKE, yeah, that didn’t sound good. I just meant that he is done.
MTC, Hargrove was a good pickup. Patterson was only going to be a rotation guy anyways. Hargrove can do just as good, if not a better job. Don’t worry. But I agree, we can’t lose anymore D-Linemen.

See, what they’re not telling anyone is that this happens to many people who change to “Aspartame” instead of sugat to lose sudden weight. This is what happened to Patterson. He was pressured to lose weight under Washburn and took it upon himself to change his diet..No one told him that Aspartame is a neurotoxin that have been scrambling brains since it’s suspicious approval by the FDA in the early 80’s. If he continue to drink Aspartame the seizures will get worse and he’ll eventually die of brain cancer.
