Eagles Could Not Go To Battle With Current Receiver Corps

After looking at practice today, I think Michael Vick is going to consider paying DeSean Jackson out of his own money to report to camp. With Jackson in California and Jeremy Maclin standing on the sidelines, Vick doesn’t have enough speed outside at the wide receiver positions to scare anybody.

This is the same group which Donovan McNabb was throwing the ball to. We didn’t win a Super Bowl with those guys and we won’t win one with the group of receivers that are running the routes with the team right now.

Asante Samuel was having a great time during the one-on-one drill because the corners were dominating. Samuel kept yelling at the offense as pass after pass was either intercepted, knocked down or fell incomplete. Vick did make a nice throw to Jason Avant in the blitz drill after the signal caller adjusted the protection to pick up the blitz, but for the most part the defense was ahead in every session of practice.

If the Birds were playing a game, the opposing safeties would be lining up five-yards deep. There’s no way they could put fear in anybody’s heart with Jason Avant and Riley Cooper lining up outside, and Chad Hall or Sinorice Moss lining up in the slot. If Jackson isn’t here, LeSean McCoy won’t have as much room to run on those draws and screens because the safeties will up there much closer.

It was really a joke when the number one receivers were matched up against Asante, Nmandi and DRC. How do you spell blanket? They couldn’t get deep against these guys if they put rockets on their backs. I know these guys are quality cornerbacks, but a blind man can see that the Birds aren’t the same football team if you remove DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.

The best receiver on the field today was Moss, who is nothing to write home about. There are plenty of reasons why he was a free agent. I’ll give him credit for having a good camp so far because he’s been catching everything that comes his way. He ran a nice double move on Asomugha and beat him deep for a big play.

Cooper ran one of Jackson’s favorite routes against zones where he lines up in the slot and goes all the way across the field into the opposite corner. It’s a long route and Jacikson’s speed allows him to run it. Cooper ran it today and I was counting. It took him five seconds to get over there.

Vick will never have enough time to get the ball to him on that route. if Jackson isn’t in the lineup, they need to put that route on ice or Vick will be running for his life.

The Eagles and Jackson have to get this thing worked out for everybody’s sake. It’s good that Vick is getting all this work, but he needs to be working with the people he’s going to work with during the season.

I’m not saying that the Birds should pay Jackson $10 million dollars a year, but they need to give him a nice bonus and something in the $7.5 to $8 million area. The guaranteed money needs to be at least $18 million, which means this year and next year is guaranteed. They can tack other years and bigger salary on the back end of the deal because he will only get that if he’s playing great and still has his speed.

You can’t give him what Santonio Holmes got , five years for $50 million, because the Jets overpaid for him. But Jackson needs to be near that ballpark, the question remains for both parties, how close to that ballpark.

Yeah Maclin needs to get healthy and Jackson needs to get in camp. It wasn’t that long ago that FredEx was our #1 receiver. I could jam Freddie on the line.

Being reported that Maclins illness is a mystery. He as had this since Feb and has lost 15 pounds. He may not be ready anytime soon. Im not to thrilled with the WR in the first place. I think they are solid with spectacular games but alot of games where they dissapear. Lining up with Jackson, Cooper and Avant isnt that imposing.

Not to spread any false info, merely speculating here, if Maclin doesn’t have Mono then what do you think he has?
STDs? staff infection? I mean, there’s only so many things you would keep private…

He has to get his a$$ in here, if not the Eagles aren’t giving him $#It. He needs to stop listening that douchebag agent of his. Your not going to get what you want. No matter how explosive he is, he is 160 lbs, soaking wet, with lead weights on his feet, he disappears for games at a time, is inconsistent & is injury proned.
Think about it, why would they invest huge guaranteed, long term $$$ for him? They never have before, with players in his position.

Thanks for the reporting G,

But I am thinking that if you take the number 1 and 2 WR’s from 90% of the teams plus add in the fact that you have some new WR’s, and oh yeah they are practicing against the very same corners that we Eagle fsns hope will be able to shutdown the leagues best WR’s.

So yeah okay I can see our WR’s struggling right now in what the third practice of the season and first full team. Earlier this week before the stud corners got in reports were that the WR core looked okay.

Well G ya not going to scare me my man, get back with me after next weeks preseason game, and just maybe you can….uh!… not going to be scared then either. Not complaining about the report though good job, just saying I am not scare.

DDCar -DJax was 160 pounds when you drafted him in the 2nd round. He is making 500,00 this year. He is the 28th paid on the team. He is making less than the rookie minimum. 2 time pro bowler. What do you suggest they pay him? What do you suggest they tell him. F/U and what you did vs the Cowboys, Giants etc your only 160 pounds you dont deserve shit. lol

WM, I was thinking the same thing. HIPAA laws are preventing the Eagles from releasing any info. They will be liable to law suits. That’s why it’s being kept private.

DAGG, I agree, he deserves a raise. But was merely stating what the FO thinks about holdouts & contract demands & what he thinks he deserves. It was stated on WIP (forget the show), that he is asking for more than Rice & Holmes. He ain’t worth that much.
BTW, yeah, he was 160lbs when we drafted him, but that was before the injuries & concussions.

Who knows?
If he is expected to make Week 1, it has to be Mono and they are bringing him along gradually.
I would bet he returns when Desean suits up on August 9.

OT:
Man, on Eagles live I just can’t stand Dave Spadaro (shut if off earlier today).
I’ve tried to give him multiple chances, he just gets defensive and worries a lot.
Granted, there are a lot of “fans” out of the loop, and that can accumulate.
Honestly, he doesn’t portray himself as a guy that knows the game and the Eagles like we do on here.
They need to make a change there.
He can keep a job, I don’t want the guy jobless, but take him off the screen.

2 things I like to point out about D-JAx Contract
#1) Other players who got their big $$ (S Holmes,S Rice) were Free-agents, another words, they played out their Rookie Deals, became productive big play NFL WR’s and now were able to cash in during Free-Agency which is the Process.. These players have put in wthere 4-5 Seasons to become Free-Agents.. D-Jax is still under his Rookie Deal
#2) D-JAx only has himself to blame for being a mid 2nd ROund Draft Pick, HE had issues in COllege with his Coaches, Marijuana charges and also Stealing all while he was a young man at the Universist of California which thre up red-flags about his Character which is the only reason he was not drafted in the mid-late 1st Round which would have fgotten him a better deal..

The Bottom line is you are under contract, so get your ass into camp or face being placed on the FAilure to report list and lose an entire year of eligibility which dealys your another year of NFL Service before you can become a Free_Agent … It is what it is if since the NFL and pplayers are just coming off a 150 Day lockout, this is not the time to test the FO and draw a line in the sand… Get into camp and I am sure that once the final Roster is set that there will be discussions about re-working your ROokie Deal, but I caution, any threat of an extended holdout by you and your agent will mean the end of your career here in Philadelphia.. It is how this Franchise Operates and they will not change for you D-Jax, no matter how dynamic of a player you are and I support the Teams decision whatever happaens whether they place you on failure to report list, trade you or extend your deal, but 1 thing I am certain about, nothing will happed as long as you are holding out…

Give DJax that famous MAGIC contract that the Eagles are FAMOUS for. You know give Jackson the 6 year 80 million dollar contract with a 25 million signing bonus. Then the next day its reported its really only a 3 year deal worth 18 million with a opt out in 2. lol.

About Desean contract – Man, I don’t know why some of you guys worry so much. He is doing the right thing for himself, to show how serious. The front office is correct in their thinking, we will negotiate when you show up. Both are doing what they’re supposed to be doing.

After what our front office has done so far, you should be sitting back and trust that they continue to do what’s best for the franchise. Desean will get a deal and be here for several years. We got a lot of players at positions that we needed, and this situation is no different. We still have cap space, and we will have even more when we get Vick on a long-term deal (at least 3 yrs.) and off of the franchise tag.

We’re fine fellas, just wish I can toss the panic button in the ocean. Let your girlfriend and wives do all the worrying, because even if Jackson is shipped out of town we will get a starting WR (Not what I want, and prob. not happening, but just saying).

Great points Paulman.

Wmonell I think youre being a little too carefree. This is a make or break season. In terms of a poker game they have stacked in all their chips. Our first preseason game is less than a week. Desean is no where near in football shape along with Maclin.

$30,000 a day is a lot of money for a guy that makes $500,000 a year so unless he hates money I expect him to be back very soon. As soon as Monday.

I think the eagles have to tweek their policy and meet djax somewhere on the ne extension and hammer out something, might as well bring vick as well and do his too, this is becoming a unnecessary distraction. and as for this team jelling.. after said contracts are done, have a party for all players and families, get a couple local bands, hall and oats maybe and that comedian dom what’s his name. I think that a few laughs and some musical fun will go a long way to accelerating the bonding of the team. what do you guys think?

Paulman – I’m with you a100% on the DJax issue. DJax will continue to hold out and finally come in and talk after he wakes up, smells the coffee and realizes no progress can be made while he isn’t in camp honoring his current agreement. He’ll come in and they’ll work something out. If he waits too long before he comes in, the Eagles will write him off, period. The do not let players hold them hostage and I completely agree with that position and would do the same. If DJax doesn’t show they’ll move on like they’ve done before. Rosenhaus just doesn’t learn.

Monolith
Monolith
August 5, 2011 8:49 pm

I don’t understand fellas, what is the reference of mind that DJax is using, does he not know that the Eagles let T.O. go scott clean, that they let trotter go, let Douglas go, let Sheppard go, let Brown go, let Dawkins go, let Lewis go, let Westbrook go, let McNabb go, all good players. Does he not know that most of those same players have come back or would not mine coming back to the Eagles.

I want DJax to have his money, he has been good about keeping quiet for a while, but the reality is this, the Eagles are big picture thinkers and they will move on if forced to. They will trade him out or cut him if forced to, bring in a less fast player of course, but more durable more catch versatile.

That is not the situation I want to live in, be a fan of. Rosenhaus you freaking SOB you know the Eagles, and you know your player is under contract, and you know you “Erse” screwed T.O. to be clear this is the best team for DJax, most other teams will get the kid more killed than the Eagles will.

I have to believe what many of you on here have said that Jax will be back by Monday I defer to better minds here on GCoob site, keep up the good work boys.

I actually think D-JAx will arrive tommorow on Saturday, Hr’s got everyone’s attentio and now it’s time to suit up and practivc and get ready for the Season
This Eagle Train is ready to roll down the tracks on an unprecedented Season in EAgle History and as far as the Coaches, Players and fans go, this year’s train waits for no one, there’s too much at stake, too many moving parts to get together on the same page in a relatively short period of time.. You either on the train or not…

Paul, again, you’re trying to blame a player when clearly the team is at fault. DeSean Jackson didn’t get drafted because he’s 170 lbs soaking wet and had the Eagles not drafted him he might have actually been a 3rd or 4th round pick. Eddie Royal was taken ahead of him because the guy is stockier and thus perceived to be better for a physical game. Every front office team that drafted ahead of the Eagles should be fired all of them wish they’d drafted DeSean Jackson, event the teams that had good WRs. The “Character Issues” line is a crock, at least 50% of all first round picks have “Character Issues” and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember. The Eagles need to pay the kid…like yesterday.

Butch – No way this is the Eagles fault in any way! He needs to honor the contract, period. Simple fact is that DJax was drafted where he was drafted because that is where the market said he belonged. The reasons for him being drafted at the spot are irrelevant today. Yes, he’s played better than anyone or any team expected as some or even few players do and far more don’t. Haven’t heard any player say to the Eagles or any other FO “You know, I really haven’t played up to your or my expectations so I think you should cut my salary” have you? That’s why both sides sign a contract which are supposed to be honored by both sides. Yeah, it would be nice if the FO gave DJax a big bump but it’s not because they have to or even are wrong not to.

I would take a look at Derick Mason, I think he’s unrestricted free agent. He’s been healthy his whole career, has caught over 60 passes all 9 years, averages 82 catches and 5 touchdowns per year.
I would also bring Steve Smith formerly of the Giants in for a look.

And Hank Baskett.

Just kidding about Baskett

The Phils had a benchclear. Nothing really happened, just a bunch of yapping and mean mugging. Relievers who don’t bat, but throw at guys are gutless cowards. Haha, Pence just hit a moonshot homer! MAYBE, you also need to remember that if a player does not play well, he can be cut by the team, and he keeps only what he got as a sgning bonus and his salary up until he got let go. I think we all agree, DeSean has outplayed his contract, deserves a new one, and as soon as he gets in to camp, the Birds will get to work on it. You do not negotiate with terrorists, and you do not extend guys who are holding out. He will come in and it will get taken care of in short order. Those that say it should have been done last season are simply ignorant and do not know the facts of the situation, so do not waste time on them.

To E-Money.. Please no more Hank Baskett… ha

Here’s a couple of other Free-Agent WR’s still out there, which the list of gotten pretty skimpy ..

WR D Hagan – Giants 6-2 215lbs & B Clark at 6-4 210lbs from the Lions

Of course there are the old guys like TJ Houzmazada, TO, Randy Moss, H Baskett, G Lewis, K Curtis..etc.etc

I don’t think the Eagles need another smaller type of WR for they would be too similar to the others already on the Roster.. EAgles need a big WR 6-2 or Bigger to help in the Red-Zone,.. The Eagles have enough small and speedy WR’s already and need some physicality at this position
