Mike Vick Wants to Finish Career in Philly

In a radio interview with Mike Missanelli, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick opened up on the current state of his contract and the possibility of a new contract in the future.

“It is what it is, if it happens it happens,” said Vick. “Whenever they want to discuss it I’m ready.”

Vick is currently under a one-year franchise tag, which as Missanelli put it, Vick “can make a lot of money” after being franchised. But as Vick quickly noted after Missanelli brought that up, he has “to earn it”.

The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback has said all the right things and has done everything possible to reward himself with a much bigger contract, especially one that stretches over time rather than a one-year deal.

There’s no hiding the fact that Vick deserves an extension. Whether or not the Eagles are willing to offer him an extension this season is still to be determined.

“I mean you always got to do what’s best for you and your family and you know if there’s an opportunity there to do an extension, I’m pretty sure my agent will be calling in the next couple of weeks,” said Vick. “There’s already been some discussion, yeah, to be honest.”

It’s clear Vick wants to be in Philly. The city gave him a second chance when no one else would. The Eagles offered him an opportunity that he wouldn’t have received anywhere else. Because of all this, Vick wants Philadelphia to be his final stop in his NFL career.

“I’m just hoping it all works out. I want to be here. I want to play for Andy [Reid] throughout the rest of my career. We’ll just see how it goes,” said Vick.

It be would be great to get Vick under a long-term contract and, since he came to camp and is being, reliable, responsible, patient and above all professional git-r-done!

This seasons money could wind up being like musical chairs and DJax better hope there’s a chair left when/if he decides to play.

I say extend his Deal out 5 Years for $90 Million with $30 in guaranteed $$$ over the 1st 2-3 Seasons and then hire me to manage his money.. ..

I love loyalty, he knows what the Eagles did for him, and I think the Birds understand what he has to offer to the team. Signing him when he was radioactive was pretty risky, and it has paid off for everybody. I am glad it looks like a deal will get done. Plus getting him off the franchise tag and onto a longer term deal will free up some more cap space.

Plus extending his deal for rest of his career fires up these other great players who want to play with him and compete to win Super Bowls with him as their leader.. and this will make it more likely that players want to remain with the Eagles to reach these goals and for future Free-Agents, to come and want to seriously join the Eagles.. It’s a win-win for everyone …

If the Eagles are going to go long-term with Vick, and I agree that they absolutely should, they darn well better get him the best protection money can buy!

“Best money can buy” is a bit of an overstatement and they’ve done so much already to prove the team but, the QB proection needs improvement over last year. Especially his blind side.

Don’t sleep on this new guy Harris, from Denver. I have seen some reports that suggest he might be a good pick-up, fell out of favor after a coaching change and some injury issues. But he might be a player who Mudd can coach up into a very solid tackle.

To be fully honest. Desean is our top priority then comes Vick. Without Desean Vick is not as good. Lets get Desean in camp with a new contract then work on Vick. I want to see if Vick can read a blitz before we offer him a 4-5 year contract. Lets be honest Vick couldnt pick up Winfield in the vikings game on Tuesday night with a basic edge blitz play after play. Vick can be elite if he learns to read the blitz. Once he shows he can call a hot route to beat the blitz then he deserves a big contract.

Hey Godson, how are ya brother, look Vick is already Elite. With blitz recognition improvement we would be among the greatest. See “Among Greatest” trumps “Elite” all the time. Still for the most part what your saying is correct, expect the Desean part. Without DJax Vick is still Vick, if Maclin makes it back and we geta nother good WR in the mix (and I do mean good), Vick can shine with that. The Maclin star has yet to rise on this team stand by if he is healthy.

As Always “LONG LIVE THE EAGLES”

You want to see if Vick can pick up blitzes before you sign him? lol. The Eagles dont run this situation. Vick controls EVERYTHING. If you dont sign me I WALK at the end of the year. You have Kolb, oh yeah you traded him, good luck Philly. Your gonna wait to see if I pick up blitzes hahahaha. Funny how you dont mention the Wash and Giant game. Your welcome. lol Half these FA came here because of me. How about getting me a NFL right tackle.

Mr. Cobb – with talk about Vick being here long term..

How about a report on the Offensive line ??

They might be the ones who really decide how long Vick is going to be playing.

At his press conference Andy talked like he’s trying alot of combinations.

How is the oldest 1st round pick in the history of the NFL doing? What has he shown you so far??

It is easier to get Vick signed first. He is getting paid according to the franchise tag, which means he is taking up a really big chunk of cap money without any way to spread it out over the length of the deal. Get his deal done to free up the money, then DeSean gets his finished.

It’s OL Coach’s Mudd who is trying the various Combinations which he has always done.. He likes versatile players who can slide from inside/outside and with the limited practice schedule due to the lockout, he can get a real good gauge of who can do what which bodes well for once the regular season starts..
I expect to see a lot of differenct combos the 1st coupld of Pre-season games so he can see what he has, then he will make his decisions and let Coach AR know.. R Mudd will have the main say-so of who plays where …

BSM….I was watching Watkins closely for the 1st time while going down Lehigh this year to see Asmo work on his day…And I’ll tell you what.
Watkins does not look impressive…He’s not manhandle anyone like we use to see with Andrews there. And the way the defensive line is shooting off the ball without worrying about the run responsibilities it’s even harder for Watkins.

On another not..The Eagles look good on the line and secondary, but will get killed with draws and screens now that Linemen have one responsibility and that is to get upfield.

You need very good linebackers running these type of schemes…

Well ir remains to be see…but Watkins do not look like a 1st round pick unless you are comparing him to what we are use to getting in the first round lately.

I am not sure anyone was ever comparing Watkins to Andrews..
I do think he will be a solid Interior Lineman (Guard) for the Eagles next 4-5-6 Seasons.. Probably not a Pro-Bowler,but a very consistent player in the NFL and very similar to T Herremans production..
I would be very happy for 1st Round Picks for the Eagles to become good solid NFL players for 5-6 Years while taking over positions of need…Take some chances with for 3rd/4th Round Selections, but the good teams are built with getting quality players who come and contribute right away in the early rounds and I think Watkins has a great chance of doing so..

I feel this is just the beginning of our run to the SB… The mcnabb era closed and so did that window, well a new window has been opened with an entirely different team and with Vick at qb… Free agents would love to come play on the same team as him and i think they will as long as they are successful this year… alot of the guys we have on the team can get signed for long term deals if they play good and the overall team is successful… Vick GOTTA stay healthy this year so that also means the Oline has to keep him clean…

Im hearing that Vick will have more of control at the line this year, when blitzes are coming or if he needs to audible outto a new play they said “Like a peyton manning”… Thats huge! In the past andy wouldnt allow that but i think he finally has realized that he could have been holding the team back… All the great QBs have the option of audibling and having full control of the line, this is great news… Now we gotta sign vick to a 5-6 year deal 95-100 mill 40-50 mill guaranteed.. sign desean too!…

Thanks for the Info on Watkins. I was not a fan of the pick, but now that he is an Eagle, I am hoping that Crystal Ball Andy saw something special in him. Maybe after Andrews mental problems he wanted to get the most mentally stable/mature lineman as well as talented.

With the upgrade of offensive line coach, last years horrendous line should be a distant memory. I wonder what ever happened to that offensive line coach? Oh that’s right, he’s running our defense now.

Sorry, could not resist one last jab at Juan and Crystal ball, before I go ALL-IN in support of his defense.

Another thing not to overlook,
This is also the end of the Jimmy Johnson Defensive Philosophy also.. For over 10 Years now (including the 2 under McDermott) the schemes and philosophy os small bust fast just didn’t keep up with the game of bigger, more athletic players on the field (like today’s TE’s in the NFL which have eaten up the Eagles for years now with no real answer to stop it and the bigger more physical WR’s that almost every NFL team has now)
Washburn’s/Castillo’s will still empasize speed but with bigger players who are more physical (Babin,Jenkins,Asmo, and rookie picks Jarrett,Matthews and recent pick-ups like Hargrove, J Page ,etc, etc)
Eagles under JJ always had those small but

paulman
paulman
August 6, 2011 12:37 pm

COntinued..
Eagles (with JJ’ always had those small but fast CB’s with Brown,Shepard,Hanson,Hobbs, over the years.. Now they have gotten bigger with Asmo,DCR,Marsh to help battle the bigger WR’s that are now all over the league.. It’s definintely time for this Eagles D to reclaim it’s reputation and production as a fast but physical Defense that has an attitude which really hasn’t been seen for the past 4-5 Seasons .. JJ was great in his time but he became very predictable and opponents not only caught on his schemees but were able to take advantage of the Eagles lack of size at the skills positions and inability to cover the middle of the field…

guys remeber i told you that the bin laden death was staged and bin laden have benn dead for nearly a decade?

Check this out.

The Seal team 6 who Barack Obama claimed took out Bin Laden are now reported dead in a copter crash in Afghanistan…..

http://www.taiwannews.com.tw/etn/news_content.php?id=1673531

Now, let’s get this straight.

A copter crashes at Bin Laden’s so called bunker..yet there were no deaths of Navy seal team 6

They are heros for taking out Bin Laden and laid him to rest at sea so there’s no evidence of him actually dying.

Then it’s reported the same team was killed a month or so later in a copter crash.

Well….that really ties up all loose ends….Americans go back to drinking you flouridated water and get a few more vaccine shots to further scramble your brains.

there’s nothing to see here…

All kinds of problems for BIg Blue this Off-season which hasn’t gone too well for them…
#1) Have an very unhappy DE in Osi
#2) Have an unhappy RB in A Bradsahw who was comtemplating moving on to the Dolphins, but then Dolphins signed R Bush, and Bradshaw lost his leverage and ended up re-signing for what he feels was a low-ball offer from the GIants..
#3) Lost their only real legitmate TE on their Roster in K Boss to the Raiders
#4) Released a couple of experienced and well-liked OL (O’Hara)
#5) Are planning on playing young W Beatty at LT who has been a disspointment in his 1st 2 Pro Since being a high Draft pick (2nd Rounder)
#6) Have not resigned WR Steve SMith who is also unhappy with their Offer
#7) Have really not addressed a big weakness on Defense which is their LB Play
#8) Lost B Coefield and C Canty from the middle of that DL to Free-agency and will need youngers (L Joseph from last years Draft and M Austin from this years Draft to step up and produce right away)

Lots of tumoil right now and if they get off to a slow start, the drum will be banging to make some changes (Coach Coughlin who would proably get replaced by DC Perry Jewell)

Webster and Ross have been inconsistent most of their Careers

No to pile on the Giants bad news

Recently signed TE Ben Patrick (Signed 2-3 days ago as a free-agent from Cardinals) decided to retire and quit football (He must hang with Ricky Sapp)
This leaves Travis Beckum (underachiever and not a good blocker and Bear Pasco (good blocker but not a very good receiver or athletic at all) as their 2 options at TE… so look for them to be looking around, searching the waiver wires

4th String CB B Johnson tore his achilles and is out for the Season
so the Giants are very thin at both CB and TE positions
