I think Jeremiah should go with the Broncos if he gets the chance to do so, rather than sign with Tampa Bay. There's no way Trot can play the middle linebacker spot in the Tampa "2" coverage.
I know Jon Gruden immediately got somebody on the phone when he saw Trot's name on the wire but it's not a good fit for number 54. Gruden is on the block and he's ready to sign anybody who thinks can help him avoid losing his job.
That Tampa "2" double zone coverage asks the middle linebacker to line ujp at the line of scrimmage and still get to the deep middle. Many times he's asked to run with a tight end or wide receiver who is headed deep as the offense tries to get three receivers in the deep zones of the coverage. The weakness of the the Tampa "2"coverage is exposed when an offense has the speed to get three receivers deep against the two safeties who are covering downfield. Trotter would be a major liability in this coverage.
In Denver they have one great shut down corners in Champ Bailey and another good corner in Dre Bly. They're able to hide a poor coverage safety like John Lynch. They might be able to hide a guy like Jeremiah as well. Their outside linebackers are very fast and could probably cover most of the tight ends and back all by themselves. It would be a much better landing place for Trot than Tampa.
