Established in 2000, the Donovan McNabb Foundation was created for two reasons – to increase awareness of the effects of diabetes, and to help make a difference in the lives of young kids.
One of the Foundation’s marquee events, the All Star Kid’s Football Clinic will take place Saturday, June 6, at the NovaCare Complex from 1:00-4:00pm.
This marks the ninth straight year of the event and seventh in the City of Brotherly Love. This free clinic for kids, funded by the Donovan McNabb Foundation, is for boys and girls ages 11-14. This year’s 300 attendees have been selected from local community groups, and several spots were made available through participating sponsors.
In celebration of the Foundation’s 10th year, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell will introduce Joe Sestak, House of Representative from Philadelphia’s 7th District, who will present Donovan McNabb and the Donovan McNabb Foundation with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid will once again attend to address the kids. (Media Note: All three gentlemen are expected to make brief appearances at the beginning portion of the event.)
Donovan and his father, Samuel McNabb, will once again direct the clinic along with Eagles teammates, coaches and other football instructors. Offensive and defensive fundamentals will be covered including blocking, kicking, ball carrying, passing/receiving, quarterback skills, agility drills, line play, shedding the block, two and three point stance, secondary coverage and turnover opportunities.
“I always look forward to hosting this clinic,” said Donovan. “We’ve been doing this for nine years now and I think I enjoy it as much as the kids do. This is a chance for some kids to come in and learn techniques and drills from NFL players and coaches. We’re able to provide instruction, and have a good time with the group. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by great teammates who come out and help, as well as outstanding corporate partners who share in the responsibility of giving back to the next generation.”
This is the ninth year of the clinic which took place in Donovan’s hometown of Chicago from 2001-02.
The kids will receive healthy snacks courtesy of ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill, and will keep hydrated courtesy of VitaminWater. Modell’s Sporting Goods will provide the kids with shirts, and will be given gift bags stuffed with surprises from the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies and Mitchell & Ness. The Hilton Garden Inn Philadelphia, Saladworks, and the Philadelphia Regional Produce Market also sponsored the event.
The Donovan McNabb Foundation was established in 2000 in honor of Donovan's close family members who have been diagnosed with diabetes. The foundation raises awareness of diabetes through Donovan's position as a national spokesman for the American Diabetes Association. Donovan started his foundation so that he could help provide awareness and improve the lives of those who suffer from diabetes, as well as the families of those who have diabetes. Since 2003, the Donovan McNabb Foundation has funded the Donovan McNabb Diabetes Camp for Kids at Camp Green Lane in Montgomery County,
