Weaver talks short yardage?

Eagles FB Leonard Weaver spoke after today's practice about short-yardage situations this season.

"I already told the guys we'll be good in short-yardage (situations)," Weaver said.. "We're going to go north and south, none of that east-west stuff."

Weaver is expected to drastically improve the Eagles' third-and-1 situations this season, but in all fairness, it'd be tough to be worse.

"He's excellent, an excellent football player," Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. "He's fitting in beautifully. The terminology hasn't even been an issue, he's getting our offense down fairly simple."

It helps that he played in Mike Holmgren's similar system in Seattle.

"It's almost exactly the same," Weaver said. "That's made it easy for me to jump right in and be ready to go."

I have a feeling that with all the hype of Maclin, McCoy and Peters as off-season acquisitions, the lesser-discussed Weaver signing could end up being one of the most valuable.   We'll see.
